G'dori tossed a meat he was cutting from heardbeast carcass to Naryath's
waiting maw. "Remember to chew, I don't want you to choke," he still admonished, even
when she was nearly month old.
Naryath stopped her eating, stared her rider and then started to chew the
meat slowly with obviously exaggarated care.
G'dori stared her back and then bust out laughing. "Okay, I deserved that."
"She'll learn," a voice said over the boy's shoulder. Sh'del clapped his
hand on G'dori's back. "She's lovely, isn't she?"
"She is that," Ged agreed and looked Naryath admiringly. She was one of
larger sized greens, with beautiful, emerald green hide.
Naryath had spotted the Weyrlingmaster's brown. }: Hi you. Do you know what
they call a person who constantly worries over nothing?:{ she asked him.
}:Your lifemate:{ the dark brown answered wisely.
}: Hmmm, :{ that made the little green thoughtfull. }:They're supposed to
do so? :{
}:Yes, that and other younglings with little ones like you:{
Naryath shifted her concentration back to eating.
"She's not nearly as talkative as I've heard to the other hatchlings can
be," G'dori noted to Sh'del. "I can feel her presence in my head
constantly," he tapped his skull, "but she rarely says or asks anything."
"When they're young they can be like that." Sh'del grinned at his young
nephew. "You okay though? Everyone treating you alright?"
"Yes, I'm doing fine," Ged replied. "Everybody's been just too exhausted to
come up with any mischief."
"Good, my staff is doing their job well then." A wolfish grin tugged at the
corners of Sh'del's mouth.
"I was warned about it," G'dori said. He had enough siblings who already
had dragons, so he had heard all the stories. Still, hearing about it and
actually living it, were two different things.
"True." Sh'del sighed and patted the boy's shoulder again. "But it's worth
it all, eh?"
"Of course it is. I couldn't live without her," G'dori replied with his
eyes shining.
Sh'del smiled at his cousin. Of all the weyrlings, this was the one he was
most proud of, even though he tried hard not to show favoritism. With one
more pat on the back, he said, "You get her clean up and I'll see you in a
candlemark for class."
