L'cor

L'cor

Ciendra was carrying two obviously heavy buckets across the weyrbowl,
from kitchens to herdbeasts paddock. The buckets were filled mostly
with vegetables past their prime and tuber peels. They would be made
to beast food.

"Ciendra," L'cor called and trotted toward her. "Let me carry those
for you." They were far to heavy for the slight girl and the young
bronze rider felt just a little responsible for her.

"Thank you, you're such a gentleman," Ciendra replied and lowered the
buckets to the ground. She wiped her forehead and stretched her back.
"Calla usually does this but he was busy with something else." The
more she kept meeting him, the more she thought he was perfect:
handsome, bronzerider, kind and he talked to Ciendra like a friend. He
was starting to intrude her dreams. Her face blushed when she
remembered those dreams. She just hoped he would see her as more than
just a friend.

"Well, I know you're growing much stronger here Ciendra," he smiled.
The girls past had been quite rocky but she was blooming nicely at the
Weyr without the constant abuse by her aunt. "But you have to be
careful not to try to do too much or you'll hurt yourself."

"I am, they don't let me over work," Ciendra replied. The kitchen
staff felt like one big family, everyone looking after each other.

"Good," he said. "I know you've always been a hard worker Ciendra, and
soon you'll have your own beautiful loving dragon like you deserve,"
he smiled.

"Well, that dragon is still dodging me," Ciendra said. She had walked
empty handed from the last hatching, again.

"Yours will find you Ciendra," he said confidently. He believed it as
much as it sounded in his voice. "She will, and no one can ever take
that away from you again."

"So everyone keeps telling me," Ciendra said. Frankly, she was getting
bit tired of hearing it.

"Don't you believe it Ciendra," he asked hearing the doubt in her voice.

"I suppose I'm losing bit of my faith on that matter. I mean I've
been standing several times now," Ciendra replied.

"I know," he said gently. "But think about the ones who were born here
and have stood for every clutch for turns. Don't give up Ciendra!"

"I'm not giving up," Ciendra replied with a flash of fire in her eyes.
"You have to kick me out to get rid of me."

"Good girl!" L'cor grinned and patted her shoulder as they walked back
toward the Weyr dining hall entrance. "Do you think there are any
fresh meat pies around? I'm famished," he added in an undertone.

"I'm sure I can find you a one," Ciendra grinned like conspirator.

"You're a good person to know Ciendra," he said touching her back as
they walked.

Ciendra was just hoping he would touch her more.
