"Adori, be nice to the nice canine! He looks like a nice sort,"
Sherevair petting her soothingly as she sat growling at Lord Puddles.
"Sorry, she's a bit shy around strange canines sometimes."

The spotted canine stopped a few feet away and sat calmly. He glanced back waiting for his boy. "That's alright. He's a bit over welcoming.
Lord Puddles doesn't bite." He smiled as he patted the beast on the man.

Sherevair nodded. "Well, Adori's all show. In truth she's a real coward unless she thinks I'm endangered."

Herimos smiled as he knelt by his canine. "Don't worry pretty one. This old boy here is harmless." He carefully put his hand out and waited for the other canine to sniff it.

The canine looked up at her boy for permission, and Sherevair pointed to the boy's hand. "Go on now. Be polite." She took a few tentative steps forward and sniffed the boy's hand. Adori then turned towards the other canine and began sniffing him. She decided they smelled the same, and if Sherevair wasn't worried or in danger than it must be all right. Suddenly disinterested in the whole affair she trotted a few steps to a sunspot and lazily laid down.

Lord Puddles glanced up and once Herimos nodded, he moved off to join the other canine. He made sure not to take her space but flopped down and stretched out. Herimos chuckled. "Now they will see who can lounge better." He said as he stood. "I'm Herimos. I've not been here long so have not learned everyone's name. I do apologize for not knowing yours.
I do know you are a candidate correct?" He asked uncertainly.

"I am. And a beast crafter." The boy reached out his hand. "I'm Sherevair."

"I'm a Dragonhealer apprentice." He smiled.

"An important field of study," Sherevair nodded with appreciation. "You were Searched recently, then?"

"That's correct. I planned to come to the Weyr as it is. Hopefully I can learn a bit more from those here at the Weyr. Also I get the chance to stand. it all works out." He smiled.

"Well, there seems to be a pretty small clutch this time," Sherevair sighed. "But don't worry. There will be more again soon."

"I heard. There will be a lot of people upset when they are left standing." He glanced at the canines. They seemed to be doing alright.

"Well, some do get upset if they don't impress the first time, but some people stand for Turns before the Impress. I have been standing for a while, and it doesn't bother me too much anymore."

"This is my first time. Hopefully I won't have to worry to much." He smiled.

"If so, you are one of the lucky ones. Especially with this small of a clutch." Sherevair shrugged. "Don't feel bad if you don't, is all. Lots of us will be left standing after this one."

"At least those little ones will have many to chose from."

"That's true," Sherevair nodded. "They weren't sure they would have enough candidates for that last Hatching."

"At least we don't have to worry about that this time." He smiled, "By the way how old is that canine of yours? She is a fine beast."

"Eight turns," Sherevair smiled. "I've had her half my life."

"Lord Puddles is about five turns." He wanted to ask but was afraid to.
"Just curious, have you ever bred her at all? Do you worry about her getting pregnant while your here?"

Sherevair shook his head. "No, I don't worry. She can't have puppies anymore."

"Ah," He smiled as he called his canine to him, "I'd best be off. I've chores to get to. It was nice to talk to you." He nodded as he walked away his spotted canine following behind.
