Description: Rhosyn works in the dragonhealer infirmary.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Lenala; Mentor Approved
Since she was grounded and Orlaith was perfectly content in the
Caverns with her eggs alone, Rhosyn spent more of her time with the
dragonhealers. Lenala was performing the wing duties so they were well
in hand. The Weyrwoman had her kit laid out on a counter and she found
herself working on the hurts that some of the junior journeymen
couldn't handle. It was good to be helping and she hated to see the
dragons suffer. After removing a pretty deep splinter, she found
herself waiting for her next patient.
"Careful there Bruath, I know you're unbalanced but a fall isn't going
to help your wing any," a worried tenor could be heard entering the
infirmary.
}:It _hurts_ and it's hard to walk with my wing not working:{ the
young blue complained.
**I know, but we are going to get you fixed up.**
}:I thought my wing was better. Why did this happen?:{
"That gust of wind was unpredictable," G'fal explained aloud for the
benefit of the healers who might be listening. "It was our first day
back at drills after being grounded for that thread score."
Seeing everyone else was busy, Rhosyn smiled at the bluerider and
ushered the pair over. It was easy to see the way the blue favored the
wing
that something was wrong with it. She turned to an apprentice. "Can
you get me their record hide please?" As they approached, she waited
until she had the blue's okay to come closer.
**The Weyrwoman wants to take a look.** G'fal informed his dragon.
}:Will it hurt?:{
"It might hurt but I'm sure she'll be as gentle as she can."
}:Okay then.:{ The blue tried to angle himself so that Rhosyn had a better view.
"It was our first day back flying drills and we caught a wild updraft
which nearly took us into another pair," G'fal explained, his voice
full of tension, though he tried to remain calm for his dragon's sake.
"Over corrected and Bruath banged his wing against the cliff. Same
wing that had been scored."
As Rhosyn had expressed more than once her desire to progress in
Dragonhealing, Y'gel was staying out of the way today and had given
her free reign of his dragon infirmary. Of course he was available to
assist should she want help but he was quite sure she was fully
capable of handling the lead role. So, the Master Dragonhealer stayed
in his office and listened to the goings on.
Listening and nodding, she walked forward and examined what she could
see. The Scoring was easy to spot and traced the scar, trying to see
if it was through the joints and the bone or just the sails. **Were
his muscles
effected?** Knowing it was probably hurting him very much, she didn't
touch him yet. "G'fal, can you show me where he says it hurts?"
"He says he's sore not just there at the scar," G'fal pointed to the
weaver's length scar along the blue's mainsail, "But deeper and along
his entire mainsail, like the pain is radiating," the rider tried to
describe the impression that he was getting from his dragon. "He's
also just a bit tender at the wingtip where he clipped the cliff's
edge, though it's not as bad there," G'fal pointed at this region as
well.
"So just sore? Not shooting pain?" That was a good sign. That meant he
was probably just bruised, and not broken especially if he could move
it. She also didn't see much ichor or tearing. There was just a bit at
the wingtip, probably where the claw was dragged against the rocks.
The apprentice brought the Record and she read it quickly. Rhosyn then
told the apprentice to numbweed the area to soothe the blue before she
started to work.
}:Not shooting, but stronger than just an ache. Oh, that's better.:{
Bruath told G'fal as the apprentice spread the numbweed. }:Much Better:{
**Is the pain completely gone?**
}:Not completely. There is still a deep ache that it doesn't quite
reach, but it's much better.:{
"He said the pain was not shooting but stronger than an ache, but the
numbweed has lessened it considerably. Now, it's more of a deep ache."
"Then probably nothing broken. I'd imagine he's injured one of the
muscles." Humming to herself, she came to the wing and started to
work,
searching for the problem. Her fingers palpated the wing, starting
from the edge of the sail and working inward. "When I hit it, tell me."
Aughashyth was relaying the goings on with the injured pair so he
pushed his hidework away and got up from his desk. Walking out into
the infirmary he didn't say anything but silently observed the small
form of the Weyrwoman as she examined the injured dragon.
Sometimes she wished they had a way to see inside without cutting the
dragons open. It would make things easier. As it was, she was hoping she
would feel it. The swelling would help her locate the problem. Where there
was pain and a recent injury there was usually swelling. She kept her
breathing even as she focused, stopping when she was pretty sure she
had found the problem. Her eyes went to the bluerider for
confirmation.
Before G'fal could respond, she had her answer when Bruath angled away
from her touch.
"Steady there, big guy," G'fal said soothingly. To Rhosyn he gave a
nod. "You found the spot."
}:Why is she making it hurt again?:{ the blue demanded.
**She needs to find the source of the problem to heal it completely.**
"Good." She went more carefully, determining that the bones hadn't
broken. It was clear they had been stressed, though, after just
healing and were certainly bruised and the muscle itself seemed to be
inflamed. "I'm going to inject some numbweed directly into the
tissues, but I think it's inflamed and sore, as well as swollen from
the impact. I'm going to also inject some medicine that should make
the swelling and inflammation go down. The soreness is probably going
to last at least a sevenday, maybe longer. He should move it lightly,
though, or it'll get stiff. Light duty for you both of course."
Turning, Rhosyn spoke to the apprentice to get the things she needed.
Turmeric and ginger for the inflammation as well as liquid numbweed
for the pain. Hopefully the blue would be able to rest when she was
done till the worst of the pain was over.
"Well, the news is better than it might of been. I was worried,"
G'fal voiced with some relief. **The Weyrwoman's going to fix you
right up, Bruath.**
}:Good. I need my wing to work.:{
