Description: The weyrlings settle into the barracks before the feast.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 15 of Turn 7
Notes: Follows Shameful
As everyone came to the sides of the Cavern and were helped to feed
their dragonets, D'lorn surveyed everything to make sure it was going
smoothly and there were no issues. He nodded to the dragonhealers,
thinking the coast was clear. About this time the weyrlings began to be
herded towards the barracks where they would spend their first night as
riders. "Come along now, get those dragons moving. I know they're sated
and tired but they need to make it to the wallows. Even a small dragonet
is hard to carry that far." His eye glanced through the crowd to settle on
Lanniya and her queen. U'das was nearby-good.
}:Sleepy,:{ Nalarith muttered, eyelids drooping.
A'dryn wanted to curl up with her right here. It would be so nice,
just a little nap... He shook his head. That was her feeling, not his.
**You can sleep soon, love. We just have to get you to bed.**
It was hardly surprise that Zack's attention was on the tiny gold weyrling.
**Oh, stop that, you naughty old bronze,** U'das scolded him and went
to check a brown pair. The brown was stumbling after his rider. "Don't walk
too fast, remember he's a baby and doesn't move that well yet," he
instructed the new rider.
Anaeryth took the attention of the bronze as her due, her eyes intent
on her surroundings despite her sleepiness. She gave a murmured croon
and glanced ahead at the stumbling brown ahead of her. }: One foot
ahead of the other. Keep the wings up and it helps. :{ Her own long
legs were a little more sure, but not much; she took her own advice
and didn't let her wing drag.
Finally they reached the barracks and D'lorn didn't have to worry
since all of the wallows were open. "Choose your space and prepare to
bed down your dragonets. Morning roll call is at the seventh candlemark.
You may enjoy the feast tonight for three more candlemarks then you need
to be in bed before curfew. Weyrling uniforms are in the lockers in your
wallows. We can get better sizing later." The greenrider stepped to the side
as the younglings chose their places. They would live here for many months
to come.
A'dryn wondered if he should bother going to the feast. He wanted to
hide after what his parents did. He started to head for a spot a
little away from the door, but Nalarith had perked up a bit on the
walk and chose a wallow for herself. }:This one is nice.:{
U'das followed them in as the last person in line. He was ready to
help where needed. If not, he would go to the feast.
Anaeryth promptly chose the largest wallow and immediately nestled down
in it, giving a shuddering yawn. Lanniya was less certain. She had not
lived in the Candidate barracks and viewed the open area with a little
trepidation; she wouldn't have her grandparents close by.
A'dryn felt the moment Nalarith fell asleep. It was so strange and
amazing to feel the emotions of another being, to share thoughts.
**She's all that matters. Not my parents, not my pain. Not me.
Nalarith is everything.** He watched her flank rise and fall with
gentle breaths and caressed her head.
Seeing most of them move into wallows without any problem, the greenrider
nodded to himself. He had agreed to take first watch. U'das wanted to attend
the feast and D'lorn had to make sure they all came back from curfew. "Latrines
are down that end along with the bathing pools. My office is there and I
will be in it should you need something. Blankets and pillows and things are on
your cots." The lights weren't all the way up so it wasn't very bright to
account for the sleeping dragonets. "Tomorrow will be a very long day so I suggest
you get some rest."
"If everyone is all right, I'll just head for the Feast," U'das said.
