U'kaiah sat down on his desk and looked at the pile of hides. Something was... different. Part of him felt like _something_ had changed on his desk, and yet he couldn't put a finger on it. Finally he had to shake his head to get rid of the feeling, and picked up a stack of hides to straighted up. Something slipped out from between the hides and pages and floated to the floor.
The bronzerider looked in confusion down at the small pile of cloth that had settled on the floor. He bent down and looped his finger through a bow and pulled up a pair of ladies pink, _very_ pink, undergarments. "Sarian?"
~*~
Sarian had been trying to decide what to wear for the evening when Ryerth alerted her to U'kaiah's arrival. The choice between a short black dress and her favorite skirt was troublesome enough that she missed the warning undertone in her dragon's words, sweeping to the door wrapped in her robe and opening it before U'kaiah could even knock. "Dress or skirt?"
"How about undergarments first," U'kaiah said as he held the panties up on his finger. His tone should have told her that this was not a friendly visit.
"Oooooh..." Sarian rescued her favorite bright pink pair of panties from him with a grin. "Good idea... I should wear the pink dress!" "Sarian, I know _I_ have not been taking off your undergarments for quite some time..."
"Then where did you get these?" she asked, eyebrows drawing together. "I didn't even know they were missing..."
"Obviously," he frowned. "I found them between the hides on my _desk_. Just how did they get there?"
A long silence stretched out between them as Sarian remembered exactly what sort of situation might have left an article of her clothing on his desk. At the time it had seemed like such a wonderful idea... Now, with U'kaiah looking down at her, she was wondering. "Uhhm... how odd," she said rather lamely, trying to come up with a good explaination... or at least one that didn't involve N'vanik. U'kaiah had known the greenrider too long to mistake _that_ look - the look that said she was deperately searching for a way out of trouble. He had seen it plenty of time, but usually he had been her partner in crime. "What did you do, Sarian?"
Sarian made the wrong choice and went for a joke. "Don't you mean who?"
The wingleader's eyes grew hard as stone as he grabbed he arm roughly.
"_What.did.you.do_?!"
"Hey!" Sarian tried to jerk away from him, not liking the change in him.
She'd seen U'kaiah in a lot of moods, but she'd never felt intimidated before.
He didn't let go and his voice grew quiet. "Tell me what you were doing in my office when I wasn't there Sarian. Tell me _now_."
Her voice came out as a frightened whisper. "It was just a joke, U'kaiah." "Well, why don't you tell me the punchline," he growled, leaning down into the greenrider's face.
Ryerth's upset rumble from inside the weyr indicated just how off balance Sarian felt. She gave up her co-conspiritor without even a twinge of guilt... after all, N'vanik was far larger than she was. He could take care of himself. "It was N'vanik's idea."
**N'vanik?** His mind growled. "What was N'vanik's idea, Sarian?"
Sarian's voice got even quieter. "To use your office. He wanted to do it!"
"And _you_ agreed to it?" His eyes were full of anger and hurt as he looked down onto hers.
She was staring at his chest to avoid his eyes, so she completely missed the hurt in his gaze. It was hard to concentrate in any case... fear was melting into hot lust as she remembered that this was _U'kaiah_, who would never hurt her. Not in a bad way, at least... She pressed against him, finally looking up. "I didn't really think about it, U'kaiah... I wouldn't have done it if I had..." The bronzerider pushed her away in digust. "Is there a single thought in your head for _anything_ but you?"
Sarian stumbled back a few steps into her weyr, prompting another upset rumble from her dragon as the momentary lust melted back into concern.
Shards, he was _really_ angry with her! Jaela's less than flattering picture of his friends fluttered through his mind as he glared at the greenrider. How they had fought over his choice of friends. She never had any use for any of them, and for the first time, U'kaiah was starting to wonder if she hadn't been right... "I _defended_
you," he growled, his anger blending with a sense of betrayal.
"Wait, against what?" Sarian tilted her head to the side, confusion taking the place of fear. She'd never been a very complicated person, and more than one emotion at the time was more than she could process.
"Shards when I think of how I stood up for you when Jaela told me what you are..." That hurt most. More wasted time. Time he had wasted defending a friend that didn't deserve it when he could have been with Jaela. Perhaps it would have just been moments, but it would have been _something_. "All you are is a shallow adolescent with no thought in your head that didn't originate between your legs! Well just the sight of you makes me _sick_!"
Sarian blinked at him, all thoughts of fear gone. Considering all the illicit and downright wicked things they'd done, it seemed a little outrageous for him to decide she was shallow over a little sex in his office. "Well then I suggest you get out of my weyr before you get any sicker. Maybe the new goldrider will be your friend. I know you like goldriders."
U'kaiah just stood and stared at her. He couldn't speak. He couldn't even _breathe_ he was so angry at that moment. It was the final stab and it hit him square in the heart. Finally, in a very quiet voice, he whispered, "We are finished. You are no longer my friend, and I hope to never see you again. Ever." He turned on his heel and walked out the door without a look back.
