"My lady, gentlemen, we have a class of Senior weyrlings to graduate,"
G'nir opened the meeting of Wingleaders. At least this time the
subject was a pleasant one. "The graduation date is set for day ten.
This time we have a gold to graduate," G'nir smiled.

"I trust you and the headwoman have the feast-preparations well in
hand?" he asked from Saibra.

Saibra's lips curved as she turned her head toward the Weyrleader,
"All is well in hand." She assured him.

J'darin smiled as G'nir talked to Saibra, though to be honest, it was
extremely difficult to maintain his composure. His last class to
graduate. His last class to toss into the Wings and see if they fly.
His last class to bleed when they bleed and die a little more each
time he lost one.

His stack of information on each Weyrling had been copied neatly (not
by him) and left for each attendee and his stack leaned precariously
as he sorted through it. A goldrider and a ... well... he didn't
know what to call Ninaine but she had blossomed for certain and he was
fair to bursting with pride in her accomplishments.

He struggled a little longer with his internal misery, minding what
G'nir had said about boredom, but after a few silent moments, he said
quietly, "And she's done her Weyr proud so far. She will make a very
fine goldrider. In fact, this entire class will make fine riders.
One of the best in recent Turns."

The Weyrwoman's eyes flicked toward J'darin as he muttered quietly
about Genna and the rest of the Weyrlings. It was easy to tell that
the man was out of sorts about his "retirement." **Should have
happened much sooner.** Saibra thought with little empathy for the
man. He was too soft and emotional to be a Weyrlingmaster, in her
opinion, and she looked forward to seeing who G'nir would bring to the
position.

"Right off I can say that I want Ninaine in my Wing. With everything
that we've seen from her, and her family, I would say it's safe to
assume she'll need some extra care-- and most likely from a woman."
There was also the issue of Ninaine's pregnancy, which would land her
in the Queen's Wing temporarily anyway.

K'ran was quiet as he listened to the others speak. There were two in
particular he had his eyes on, but he'd wanted to let those who had led
their wings longer speak first.

He liked Saibra's idea for the occasionally-troublesome green weyrling. "I
think you're right that a female hand might be best for her."

"So, Genna and Ninaine to Sienna wing, any objections?" G'nir asked
and wrote it down to his notes.

"I have my eye on the brown rider O'kar," he continued and looked around.

Satisfied that there were no objections to her two newest wingriders,
Saibra relaxed in her chair a bit. She had heard horror stories of
these kind of meetings where Wingleaders fought over the new
dragonriders and where the Weyrleader dictated who would do what. The
Dragonsfall Weyrwoman glanced at K'ran and wondered what type of
Wingriders the studious, bookworm Wingleader would desire.

"You're welcome to O'kar. Cyan's a bit light on the small and agile
colors right now, so I'd like greenrider T'lat," K'ran said. Sometimes
they got overlooked and assigned last, but he was a firm believer in
using them to their best.

"J'darin, do you have any recomendations?" G'nir asked with a glance
towards the Weyrlingmaster. "What do we do with Gelira? Did her
pregnancy affect her training and how much? Is she ready to graduate?"

J'darin looked up from the list of other weyrlings to place and
nodded. "Yes, Gelira cannot graduate yet. She is about 1 month
behind the rest of the class and we will keep her as a weyrling and in
training until this next class graduates, unless she can meet her
requirements and wishes to go sooner. " He pulled another list to the
top.

"Other recommendations... yes. L'ger and brown Sondrath will be very
fine riders. Perhaps to K'ran's wing with that pair to be trained.
Also, we've a bluerider named A'meen with a very fast and clever blue
named Linnindrath. They will do well in your wing, G'nir. We do
also have at least one potential Searchrider as well." He made a
note then considered the rest of the class. "Most of the greenriders
are capable and all will do well. Take your pick of those fine lads
and ladies." He made another note before looking up and around him.
Perhaps he wouldn't miss this that much after all, though he did
love seeing the younglings he trained come into their own and into
their wings.

"Anyone you're particularly worried about?" K'ran asked as he listened
and took notes. A solid brown and a clever green were certainly good
additions to Cyan. But sometimes there were the nervy ones, who could
possibly use a lighter hand of encouragement.

"None that we haven't mentioned." J'darin said, in answer to K'ran's
question.

"So, let's see if I got them all down right; Ninaine and Genna to
Sienna wing, O'kar and A'meen to Azure, T'lat and L'ger to Cyan wing,
Gelira doesn't graduate yet...," G'nir started to list out the
weyrlings. It took a while since it was good sized class. "Did I miss
anybody? Or you want to fine tune your selections?" he let his gaze
roam around the Wingleaders.

"I'm fine with this arrangement," K'ran said. He'd also asked for the
nervy greenrider J'darin had mentioned, hoping they could balance it
out.

Saibra remained quiet, pleased with how things had gone. Working with
G'nir and the other Dragonsfall leaders was still quite different from
the close, friendly connection that she'd had with Cyradis and
N'vanik, but everyone was professional and courteous-- and you
couldn't ask for more than that as a Weyrwoman.

"Sounds right. I wish you good luck with them, they are a very fine
class." J'darin smiled. Not too bad for his last class. He
glanced around at the group and was again nostalgic for his role as
Weyrlingmaster but he knew they would do fine with D'kere, E'naer, and
whoever G'nir found to take his place. His eyes lingered on the
Weyrwoman a bit. He would have made a friend out of her if she
hadn't been so ... difficult... over Ninaine. Now look at the young
greenrider, graduated and moving to a Wing. _He_ had played a large
part in that, but it seemed to make no difference.

With a final smile, he nodded and packed up his hides. "I am
officially resigned." And the smile turned to a grin.

"And I offically thank you for the service done to this Weyr," G'nir
said formally and bowed his head in respect for a fellow bronzerider
and tough rival. "I wish you happiness, enjoy your freedom."

J'darin bowed his own head in response.

It was done, the class graduated, and his time as Weyrlingmaster over.
Oddly, he felt only relief. He cared little what anyone thought,
or for the rumors flying around that he'd lost his nerve or gone
crazy. Both were true in some fashion, anyway. A small part of
him felt a faint, arrogant twinge that they would not find a
Weyrlingmaster nearly as good as him, no matter how hard they looked.
But the rest of him wanted only the best for the Weyr and its future,
the weyrlings.

"You have only to call, should you need anything." He spoke
deliberately to everyone there except Saibra. He would not so easily
forgive their ... disagreement.

Then he rose to his feet and left them for the last time, taking up
his new role as 'simple Wingrider''.
