Characters: G'nir, Rhosyn
Description: The two of them discuss her nephew.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 12, day 7 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: K'mai, Rohagelen, J'darin, N'vanik, Corofel, Corowal, Lenala
K'mai was enjoying himself a for a few moments and so she'd felt confident
enough to slip away. The words earlier had been rolling around in her mind
and she found she did feel it necessary to say something. Not one for
special considerations, Rhosyn still wanted to know. If he did, she'd want
to know. Finding G'nir again was no difficult task. Managing to get him
alone, however, was. She waited, though, sipping some of the excellent wine
being served.
}:Nirreth, my rider would like a brief word:{ Orlaith expedited the process
from where she sat on her couch at River Bluff.
Nirreth relayed the message and G'nir soon appeared. "Rhosyn? You wanted to
talk with me?" G'nir asked.
"Yes please." She waited until she was sure no one else was listening and
she tilted her head up to consider the Weyrleader. Shame that he hadn't
transferred to River Bluff. Angling herself away so that not many would see
them talking though that in itself wasn't much to worry over since
Weyrleaders did talk to each other-Rhosyn considered the situation and how
to frame it. Opting for the easiest explanation, she began to tell him. "I
saw my sister here at your feast. I was informed that my nephew, her son,
managed to Impress bronze tonight." She took a breath, obviously proud but
conflicted over everything.
"I will not interfere and I don't want him to receive special treatment or
know of my interest, but I would like to know how he does along the way-if
he lives. I know it may not be good for others to know of his relationship
to me either so I will let him stand on his own merits. It's up to you if
you want to tell the Weyrlingmaster, but I'd rather it not be known widely.
Perhaps just between you and I?" She didn't have much of a family
connection. Most of what she did have were tenuous ties. Nisheyl was the
closest one and Rhosyn had not bonded with her daughter much at all. Now she
understood why.
"Yes, I've met the boy. Even before he arrived to the Weyr," G'nir replied.
He hadn't completely forgotten the incident with the two boys at the Tavern.
"I've been planning to keep an eye on him. He seems to be sort to do well in
life. He had befriended a Lord's Heir," G'nir grinned a bit. "It's no
trouble to send you a word now and then. Or catch up in events like these."
"Oh you met him? What is he like?" She tried to hide her interest but she
really was curious and a bit sad to know she had family that she never knew
of. They'd been kept from her. "Which Lord?" It couldn't be one of hers, she
didn't think. None of them had young Heirs. "I would appreciate it, thank
you very much."
"Lord Corowal's son, who's being fostered in Amber Hills hold," G'nir
answered the last question first. "As for what he's like...I can't say much
after brief encounter. Prone to trouble like boys of his age tend to be.
When I met the two them were stealing food from Tavern," he continued.
**Corowal...he's one of N'vanik's. Interesting. What was the boy doing in
Amber Hills?** Watching G'nir she considered how odd this situation was. The
Weyrleader knew her nephew better than she did at this point. "I was prone
to trouble too when I was younger. I suppose I should say I wish you the
best, G'nir." She gave a sheepish smile.
"He won't be first nor the last young boy prone to trouble we've dealt
with," G'nir assured her. "Just because J'darin quit as Weyrlingmaster, we
are not left without fully competent weyrlingmaster's staff."
"He quit? Oh...I hadn't heard. Do you have a replacement ready?" She didn't
know Dragonsfall's riders for the most part so Rhosyn wasn't familiar
enough. She knew what it meant to be without a good Weyrlingmaster though.
It could cause issues. It seemed G'nir had a lot more problems than she had
thought.
"Not yet. It isn't easy to find a good Weyrlingmaster. It's very demanding
position," G'nir replied.
"Of course." **Which was why they burned out so often. Also why it was good
to have a ready replacement.** She thought of their own lack of a
Weyrlingmaster at the current time. The rest of the staff was making up for
it but it would be helpful to find someone willing.
"Things doing well in River Bluff Weyr?" G'nir asked, mostly out of
politeness than in any real interests.
"My Hatching went well with the new queen. The weyrlingstaff report no real
problems so far so that's good. We've got a full compliment of Wingleaders.
Lenala's taking on more responsibility. All in all, I'd say there's nothing
to complain or worry about really." Indeed, it was almost too quiet. She was
waiting for a shoe to drop.
"Good to hear that. Would you like a dance?" G'nir replied and made the
offer. After all, party was party.
She almost gave him an odd look before catching herself. She'd danced with
him before and he wasn't bad. "Sure. Lead on, Weyrleader."
G'nir took her hand and led her to the dance floor.
