A New Wingsecond

Writers: Cali, Yvonne
Date Posted: 22nd February 2006

Characters: J'nus, S'rak
Description: J'nus and S'rak have a chat.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 9 of Turn 3

A new Wing Second... J'nus narrowed his eyes slightly as he watched the rider's bronze swoop into his new weyr. The Weyr had undergone quite a few changes in the past little while and he wasn't sure if he liked them or not, just as he wasn't sure if he liked the new 'Second or not. Perhaps he just didn't like the _idea_ of a new Wingsecond.

**Perhaps I'm just hidebound,** he thought, and resumed walking back to the Weyr. Kopth had decided that he'd rather feed _right_ after their drills, and that he couldn't wait until they'd flown back to drop off their straps. J'nus hadn't protested then, thinking the walk would do him good, but he'd since changed his mind. It was _cold_ out there!

The seemingly endless loop of steps down from the Plateau to his weyr didn't improve his temper much, but it did give him time to think.
**Kopth - ask the 'Second's dragon where his rider is.**

}:In the common room,:{ came the prompt reply. }:Be nice to him.:{ A brief smile flickered over J'nus' face as he hung up his riding straps. **Aren't I always?**

Not that much later the bronzerider strode into the common room and looked around. It took him a moment to spot S'rak, but once he did he walked over to where he was sitting. "Mind if I join you?"

"No, not at all." S'rak said gratefully as he motioned to the seat across from him. After completing his first day with his new wing, he had thought to relax a bit before heading down to dinner. "You're in my Wing right, bronze? I'm sorry, but I don't recall your name at the moment, so many new faces..."

"J'nus." J'nus stuck out his hand. "From Cyan."

S'rak nodded, recalling now. "Ah yes, with the very dark bronze, Kopth. I think I learn dragon names quicker than rider names!"

The older bronzerider smiled briefly. "As long as you remember one of us. You're from Far Island?"

"Yes, born and raised." "And a little different from here, I'd imagine." J'nus had been all over the Southern Continent before he'd been Searched, traveling with his Trader family, but he'd never been to Far Island Weyr.
Although he could make a few educated guesses...

S'rak laughed, "Very. It was much much warmer at Far Island. I haven't quite gotten used to the cold yet. But I hold out hope for warm summers here?" "Warm, but not tropical," the bronzerider replied. "Nice enough."

"Good, that's all I ask." he replied with a smile. He had never been much of for the heavier types of clothing, and was glad he wouldn't have to wear them all year. "It's spring, so it'll warm up soon enough."

S'rak nodded, "Look, I was just getting ready to head down to dinner.

Care to join me? I don't know very many people here yet and could use the tablemate." "All right." J'nus rose to his feet and stuck his hands into his pockets, smiling at S'rak. "I'll introduce you around some, too. And just a little friendly advice before we go down..."

"Sure." S'rak said, standing up as well. "Don't eat the meatloaf."
