Talwynn's eyes narrowed as she listened to the gossip from the table
over. This was interesting. She wondered if it was true. Teseada,
pregnant? She'd thought her friend didn't have anyone very special in
her life - not that she'd heard recently.
Well, no harm in dropping by the goldrider's weyr to socialize, right?
Especially not if she brought snacks over.
}:Onnyth, is your rider free?:{ Riveth asked, lifting her head to peer
around. She really liked the gold who had been her clutchmate. }:My
rider wishes to visit yours if there's time.:{
}:Mine says you are welcome, so long as you bring cake.:{ Onnyth was glad
to relay the message. }:She says she wants something sweet.:{
}:I have told her. How are you?:{ the green asked.
Talwynn received the message and made her way to the kitchens. By invoking
Teseada's name she was able to get more generous portions of cake than she
would have taken for just herself. Then she borrowed a drudge to help
carry the serving plate to the weyr, and knocked on the door.
"Cake delivery," she called.
"Come on in!" called out the goldrider. "I have juice, and an excuse to put
these hides away for a while now."
Talwynn took the platter from the drudge and edged her way in. She gave
Teseada a smile as she displayed the tray. "Cake and juice, sounds like
the start of a good time. How're you?"
"Tired, wishing I could sleep the next few months away. You?"
"Putting in some work with the weyrlings to keep busy." She was
getting bored of long sweeps and watch duty. "They're pretty
interesting. It feels very different being on the other side of it."
"I bet," Teseada grinned. "Although it'll be a while before I get to do
anything interesting."
Perfect opportunity there. "How've you been feeling?"
"Fed up of this, and i's likely all they'll let me do until... the baby
comes."
"You can't /between/ for awhile, right? So no drilling or anything?"
"Light exercise only, for the moment at least. Onnyth is not happy and I
think there are going to be quite a few candidates and weyrlings driven mad
by her when I get to big to wash and oil her myself."
"Oh they'll scramble to do it. Do you get to pull any of the boring
duty like watches?" Talwynn wondered if the workload of pregnant
riders was anything like that of the retired ones like her.
"If only," Teseada wished she could sometimes. "Saibra'll take on my wing
duties, with some help from Genna if she can, and I'll get all the fun of
the hidework pilling up on my desk, because I can."
"If you ever need company, I'm only a dragon question away." Talwynn
knew what it was like to be sidelined. "Are you excited about it all?"
"I am, yes," she admitted. "And so is the father, I think he's got every
moment of the child's life planned out, before he or she is even born."
"It's good that he wants to be involved. Seems like it'd be hard to do
it alone," she said contemplatively. How much work would it be to have
a dragon, the extra responsibilities of a gold rider, and a child?
Even if one fostered.
"I know, I haven't even thought about finding a foster mother yet." A
thoughtful look crossed her face. "Maybe that's something N'call and I
should talk about sooner rather than later."
"It'd give you some time to figure out if they're the right person,"
Talwynn agreed. She finished her mouthful of juice before asking. "So
are you two a _thing_, or was it Onnyth's flight?"
"The flight was definitely the day, I can tell you that much," Teseada said
with a grin, "Shards, you know how it is when they rise, it's all about your
dragon, not the men in the flight room. And while Onnyth seems to prefer
Haloth, we're just good friends, I mean he's supposed to be seeing that
weyrling Ninaine, isn't he."
"That's the impression I've been getting. It doesn't make much sense
to me, but I still think bronzeriders are fickle, weird creatures."
Talwynn had to smile back at the image.
"Until you get into bed with one during a flight, then they are pretty much
all the same at the time," Teseada grinned.
"That's the nice thing about riding green, a bit of diversity.
Sometimes I get the fun of a bluerider." That reminded her. "Although
D'kere won our last flight. That was something else."
"If only that was an option, have you seen the new bluerider in G'nir's
wing. He is the definition of hot."
"Oh is he? That's pretty tempting. I'll have to hope for next time."
"Let me know what he's like, I heard he's a tailor. so he may well be good
with his hands."
"That mean you're looking for someone, or just curious about various
merchandise? And good with hands is a plus."
"Just curious for the moment," admitted Teseada. "Or maybe I want to cause a
little scandal, it'd be fun to see what people say."
Talwynn laughed. They were already saying some things about her
pregnancy, but adding in a fling would make it better. "If you want
to, you should definitely do it. The gossips would probably love to
keep talking about you. After all, what's better than a goldrider
scandal? And I'm not hearing a lot being said about Saibra."
"Maybe I should give them some then, and get some in the process," there was
a laugh with that.
"There you go, be a little radical." Talwynn ate another bit of cake.
"We should do this more often."
"Oh yes, especially when we have cake this good."
"We'll always be able to get cake this good," Talwynn said optimistically.
"I hope so," Teseada reached for another slice. "And in a few months time
I'll be able to have a nice, but small glass of wine with it."
"Something to look forward to, then."
"Oh yes."
