Genna

**Come on girl, you have no reason to be nervous** Genna told herself
firmly. K'ran liked her for who she was, not just because Lissath had
been due for a flight. He'd not treat her any differently now that the
young gold had chosen another's bronze. Still, there was nothing wrong
with swinging by to check and make sure of that, right? Taking a deep
breath, she knocked on his office door.

The knock on the door distracted him from the mix of hidework and
uncertain feelings. He hadn't had a scheduled appointment. Did that
mean this was going to be another one of those days where anxious
wingriders burst in and out? He wasn't sure he wanted that kind of
drama today.

"Come on in," K'ran called, trying to keep it all out of his tone.

Genna quickly stepped in, her stomach overflowing with nervous jitters
as her eyes darted between K'ran and the floor continuously. "Hi," she
offered in greeting. "Do you have a moment?"

"Of course I do," he said, pushing away the hide and gesturing at the
chairs in front of his desk. "Take a seat. How are you today?"

"I'm okay," Genna said, studying K'ran's face closely as she took one
of the chairs. "Lissath is very.. content since, well.." she broke off
for a moment, not sure if he wanted to be reminded of losing the
flight. "How are you?"

"Glad to hear she's well," he said sincerely. "I've been fine.
Planning on visiting Amber Hills this sevenday to see my brother and
see what the Turnover plans there are like."

"That's nice," Genna said, her eyes still looking for some kind of
proof that he hadn't changed his mind about her in some way. Something
wasn't right and as she thought about his words for a moment, she
suddenly figured out what that something was. "Are you going to be
away for Turnover, then?"

"Probably, but I haven't decided 'where' yet. After all, the Weyr - "
He broke off when he remembered she was new. "I'm sorry, you're used
to Hold celebrations, aren't you? Let me back up."

He steepled his fingers together and began to explain. "The Weyrs
don't usually do huge Turnover celebrations. There's a feast and
dancing, but people are encouraged to go visit a Hold celebration
instead. It's probably because of how life was during the Interval
when things were more laid back and there were much fewer Weyrfolk. So
while Dragonsfall will have some events, the Holds always have a much
better set of options. I'd like to find out who's doing what and make
my choice when I know."

"Ah, I see," Genna nodded. Was her mind playing tricks on her, or
what? Surely, if he wanted to spend Turnover with her, he would have
asked her by now? Genna felt her stomach churning with nerves and she
looked down at her hands. "I'd figured I'd just stay here, with
Lissath getting a bit egg-heavy and all."

The bronzerider hadn't realized it would be so far along. "Oh, I
hadn't realized. I suppose she wouldn't want you to leave her, either.
Or maybe you won't know until it's time?"

"I figured by then she might be too heavy to fly comfortably," Genna
shrugged. "So I guessed it would be better not to make plans that
involve me going away, so I wouldn't be forced to cancel them last
minute." She'd been hoping K'ran would be around to celebrate with,
but it seemed he hadn't calculated her into his plans.

"I hadn't realized that," he said after a moment. "Do you think
Lissath would allow Rogueth and I to take you somewhere, or would she
be too protective? I know many people visit their family for Turnover,
and it would be a shame if that the timing didn't work out."

"I'm not that keen on visiting my family," Genna replied a bit
evasively, again searching his face for clues. Was he only asking her
now, because it would be awkward if he didn't, or had he been planning
to take her along all along? "To be honest the Weyr is my family. I
was just hoping to spend the evening with some friends and.." And him,
because he was more than a friend now, wasn't he?

His thought of taking her to one of the grand balls didn't seem to be
working out. He hunted for something he could offer her that still
sounded grand. And then inspiration struck. His parents wouldn't have
much of a Turnover in their little cot, and his brother would surely
love the chance to meet Genna.

Words popped out his mouth before he could think twice. "Would you
want to meet my family at Turnover, if I brought them here?"

Then he froze. Had that been too forward?

"Your family?" For a moment Genna was dumbstruck. There she'd been
thinking maybe he wanted nothing to do with her, and now all of a
sudden he wanted her to meet his family? She felt the nervous bubble
in her stomach pop in an almost comical sense and she smiled wide. "I
would love to."

"I bet they would think it's nicer to come to the Weyr than to spend
it at Amber Hills. Even if the celebration isn't as grand. And I think
you'd like them. It'd be a different kind of Turnover, a little more
closer."

**She said yes. Just stop babbling.** he told himself. She was going
to think him a fool.

"I like that," Genna smiled as the nervousness and stress slowly ebbed
away. He really did like her. it seemed. The thought of spending a
cozy Turnover with him was enough to bring back the butterflies of the
first date. "Do you have time for dinner together, later?" Yes, on
wards from here!

He often ate with his wing, but Fall was several days away so he
didn't need to measure their temper. "I think I can arrange time for
you," he said with a little smile.

"That would be lovely," Genna replied with a nod. "Well, I'd better
get back to work now. Let Lissath know when you're done with your
stuff and I'll meet you at the Dining Hall?"

"Absolutely. Good luck with what you have to do before then." He hoped
she didn't have nearly as much hidework as he did.

"You too," Genna said and in a whim, she stepped beside his desk and
planted a quick kiss on his lips before breezing out the door.

He blushed at the kiss. When she'd left, he raised his hand to touch
his mouth where her fingers had been, smiling as he thought about her.
