K'ran

After putting down the brush on her nightstand, Genna took a deep breath
and checked her hair one more time. She was just about ready now, but she
knew that if she left now, she would be way too early. So she flopped back
down on the bed and gazed up at the ceiling. She wondered what the night
would bring her.

Surely him asking her to meet his family meant something, yet they had
hardly spent any time together since their talk and dinner after Lissath's
flight. And that occasion had been more like a dinner date between too good
friends. Really, that man was so confusing! But then, there was that one
special night where she had been sure he desired her as much as she wanted
him...

~~

K'ran was dressed up nicely for the date. He was wearing nice black pants
and a tunic in rich purple - the colors of old Amethyst Cliff. It was a
little worn around the sleeves but he still liked it, so it's what he'd
chosen. Once he threw his wherhide jacket on over it, he reached out to
his dragon.

**See if Genna's good?**

Rogueth was pleased to turn his attention to the lovely gold Lissath.
}:Lovely Lissath, my rider wishes to know if yours is ready.:{

}: She is ready. Fussy, but ready. :{ Lissath replied with a hint of
irritation to her voice. Her rider had changed clothes five times, before
finally settling on the first dress she'd tried on. The young gold really
didn't get why this was such of a big deal all of a sudden. They'd spent
time with Rogueth and his rider so many times before, why was this any
different.

}: We will meet you in the air. :{ the gold continued as Genna mounted,
still smoothing out her hair as the gold pushed off from her ledge.

}:They will meet us in the air,:{ Rogueth confirmed to his rider. K'ran
mounted his dragon and they took to the sky. While they waited for the
gold, he visualized Emerald Falls and where they were to go.

Lissath beat her wings in an even pace and soon came up next to
Rogueth, taking his visualisations and then popping /between/ at the
signal of her rider. Genna had never been to Emerald Falls Hold, and
she smiled at the beauty of the cliff-based Hold, marveling at the
five towers surrounding it.

Rogueth spiraled down towards the courtyard where the dragons could
land. He took it slowly, letting Lissath and her rider admire the
view. Of the hold, mostly, but also of his own flying, if she wished
to look.

When they finally landed, K'ran slid down and began unstrapping his
dragon, bundling them up. Surely the Hall would have a space for
riders to leave straps so the poor dragons didn't have to deal with
them for candlemarks.

"What do you think?" he asked Genna.

"It's wonderful," Genna said, her eyes sparkling with merriment. "What
a beautiful place, I especially like those towers and the way the Hold
is situated on the cliff. It's so romantic." She hadn't meant to use
that words and blushed slightly. Yes, this was supposed to be
romantic, wasn't it? She glanced at K'ran to see his response.

"It looks like a grand old place from a Harper's tale. I can see why
the Hall wanted to be here," he agreed. Then he offered her his arm,
feeling vaguely embarrassed and hoping she'd take it.

Genna gladly took his arm, a hint a blush creeping up on her cheeks
again. Why did situations like this still make her feel like a little
girl again? "They certainly picked the right spot! I wonder if it's as
pretty inside." Genna tried to keep up a normal conversation even as
her thoughts strayed all over the place.

"Oh, it's gorgeous. How about after the concert I show you this pretty
overlook of the Falls? It would be a lovely spot to see and end on
before we went back to the Weyr," he suggested.

"That sounds like a great idea," Genna smiled, though inwardly she
cursed herself. Great, now she wouldn't be able to focus on the
concert at all! Because that overlook sounded like the perfect spot
for what she had intended this night to be. If it was private enough,
of course. Sweet Faranth, was it always this hot at Emerald Falls?

"Then let's go hear some wonderful music," he said as he guided her
towards the Hall.

- - -

The concert had been just as beautiful as he expected. "I don't mean
to impugn the honor of the weyr's harpers, but that was amazing. I've
missed that ever since they left Dolphin Cove," he said. He was
letting himself be a little too distracted by the music to compensate
for his own nerves.

"It was phenomenal," Genna agreed wholeheartedly. For a moment there,
she had been so swept away by the music, she had forgotten all about
her nerves. Now the concert was over, they returned in an instant.
"So.. you said something about an overlook of the Falls earlier, do
you have some time to show me now?"

"Of course I have time," he said, extending his arm to her again. It
might be sunset here, but it was still daytime where they'd come from.
He walked with Genna along the outside path and up towards the falls
that gave the hold its name, making some idle conversation about
anecdotes he remembered from the area.

The place he was talking about wasn't quite at the top of the falls.
It was a small, secluded nook with some tall trees to provide shade.
There were some nice rocks at the edge that one could stand or sit on
and look out at the water rushing past. "Pretty, isn't it?"

"It's gorgeous," Genna said breathlessly as she moved towards the edge
a bit more. "How come you know all these beautiful places, K'ran? It's
like you have a special eye for beauty."

"As a traveler, I saw so many different types of places, and a lot of
them were beautiful. Now I just keep my eye out for the kinds of
places that people can overlook."

}:Say something about her,:{ Rogueth nudged. K'ran had almost
forgotten his bronze was paying attention.

"And the kind of people, too." His words were clumsy but his intent
was good. He stepped towards her, hand touching her cheek, then leaned
into a kiss.

At the gentle touch to her cheek, Genna felt her heart flutter and she
leaned in for the kiss. All thoughts of it being a planned event, all
worries about it feeling forced, fled as she wrapped her arms tightly
around him. How did he still smell so good, after the crowded, busy
hall they had been in? She reveled in his scent as in the gentle
sweetness of his lips.

All of his nerves about this, all his fears about whether he was
taking advantage, if he really liked her, if he was the right person
for this - they all melted away at her touch. Her hands on his back,
her lips against his skin, were real and inviting. He felt desire for
her kindling from banked to powerful, and shifted so they were closer
together. His hand stroked down her back almost of its own accord,
feeling the dress's naterial and wishing there was nothing between
them.

A little moan escaped Genna as she leaned in to deepen the kiss. There
was no doubt in her mind now that this was exactly what she wanted.
"Is this place.. really private?" she asked in a low voice after
finally breaking the kiss.

The trees were sheltering, but there was a small risk of people along
the path...

}:I can shelter,:{ Rogueth offered.

"The trees are thick. The dragons could also block us. Or we could
/between/ back to the Weyr quickly." It would probably be rude to find
an abandoned cot.

Hmm, go back to the comfort of her weyr and run the risk of losing the
moment, or stay? It was a difficult choice, but after one more
passionate kiss, Genna stepped back reluctantly. "Let's head back to
my weyr." She had wanted her first time to be special, after all, and
maybe all the rocks and sand around wouldn't entirely contribute to
that.

It was a good idea, even if he didn't want to lose the mood. What if
he became too nervous, or couldn't carry through?

Rogueth snorted in his mind, projecting confidence as he winged his
way towards the pair. }:You will be fine. I will make sure.:{

"Then let's hurry," he said, one last kiss before they left.

The way to Weyr felt like way too long for Genna, though Lissath was
quite amused with her rider's urgency and kept asking her all kinds of
embarrassing questions. Finally, though, they landed on the ledge to
her weyr and Lissath made room for Rogueth to join them. Genna stood
to the side, looking up at K'ran with expectant eyes as he dismounted.

Rogueth's confidence buoyed K'ran. By the time they landed on the
ledge and K'ran slid down, there was no doubt in his mind about what
he wanted. He stepped forward, wrapped his arms around her, and
pressed his mouth to her own, seeking to recapture the feeling they'd
shared at the waterfall. What they were to each other could be figured
out later. What mattered was the now - and right now, he wanted
nothing more than to show the blonde goldrider how lovely she was.

~~~
Suddenly, Genna was shaken from her daydream as Lissath gently nudged her
mind. }: Weren't you leaving? :{
Genna shot up from the bed, the pleasant memory still lingering as she got
to her feet, suddenly feeling empowered. Yes, they had had that one very
special night. And tonight, she would figure out if it would stay at that,
or if their relationship still had room to evolve beyond a friendship. She
was a proper goldrider now and the confidence she had gained with Lissath's
successful clutching could and should serve her in other situations, surely!
**Watch out, K'ran, I'm coming for your heart** she steeled herself as she
closed the door behind her.
