A Friendly Squeeze

Writers: Eimi, Shelly
Date Posted: 23rd February 2006

Characters: Kamira, U'kaiah
Description: Kamira has a nice _friendly_ chat with U'kaiah...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 17 of Turn 3

Kamira caught sight of U'kaiah after being dismissed from her training for the day. Ever since U'kaiah's fight with N'vanik - and his subsequent demotion - he'd been working with the weyrings, but Kamira hadn't gotten to speak with him yet.

"Hold up there, master." She said in a teasing tone, her short hair blowing in the wind and she ran to catch up with him.

"It's _journeyman_" he corrected good-humoredly as he pointed to his knots. His eyes flashed when he saw it was Kamira calling him. It had been a while since they'd spoken.

"Well then, _journeyman_," she rolled her eyes. "Enjoying your regression to the old days?"

"Kalamath is a little bigger than I remember," he chuckled. "I seem to remember he was a bit of a runt at this age. He had a nice growth spurt, though. I think he turned out quite prettily, myself."

"Bronzes are handsome, not pretty, U'kaiah. Kalamath is much too rugged to be 'pretty.'" She couldn't believe that his dragon wasn't offended by being called pretty. "And his rider isn't bad, either." She brushed up against his shoulder just lightly enough that it seemed like an accident.

"Why thank you," he grinned. "You're not so bad yourself. Either one of you."

}:Tayanth will be beautiful one day:{ Kalamath helpfully chimed in.

His rider laughed. "It seems your green has already caught Kalamath's attention."

"Well let's hope she keeps it when it's time for her first flight. I have a feeling she wouldn't mind in the least if Kalamath was the one to catch her."

"Hmmm," U'kaiah said with teasing thoughtfulness, "are you sure you're not just projecting your preferences on her?"

Kamira feigned innocence. "Tayanth likes Kalamath all on her own! If I wanted you, all I'd have to do is wear the dress." She winked.

"Or surprise me in the Weyrlake," the bronzerider laughed. What a surprise _that_ had been!

The greenrider laughed. "Was it really that great of a surprise? I've always... had my eye on you. I was sure you knew that." She liked that she had caught him off guard.

"No, I actually didn't know," he admitted with a shrug. "I didn't know what I was missing."

Kamira smiled brightly. "Well, weyrlinghood _is_ almost over..."

"Well, _junior_ weyrlinghood," he reminded her. Still, he knew what she was getting at. "Yes, it was too bad I was laid up in the infirmary so long before your Impression."

Kamira didn't feel like pointing out that he had both Traelyn and Jaela at that point so she hardly would have gotten attention so she just let a little silence lapse between them. "How long before they let you be wingleader again?"

"Who knows. Until I prove that I can be one again without cracking my shell." He shrugged. "Maybe I'll be a weyrling for life. I don't know."

"Well none of the female weyrlings are complaining about having you around, that's for sure."

"The charm will wear off when they realize I'm here to boss them around." Though he could already tell in a few cases they _liked_ being bossed around by a big bronzerider. A few of the boys too...

"Some of us don't mind when a man takes charge..." She was one of the cases in question.

"Hmmm. Yes, but I know that is not _always_ the case." She seemed pretty determined to be in charge in his weyr that night.

Kamira shrugged lightly. "Well, I have other chores to be tending to -
duties of a _junior_ weyrling and whatnot. Bye, U'kaiah."

"I'll be around," he smiled as he gave her shoulder a friendly squeeze.

"I certainly hope so." She mumbled under her breath as she walked away, wishing that he had given something else a friendly squeeze...
