Description: Welcome to Dragonsfall from a friend.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 4 of Turn 8
"Welcome to Dragonsfall," D'ale said with a smile as he walked out of
the Wingleader's meeting where the new Wingsecond had been introduced.
"Must be quite a change from Riverbluff."
"The weather is, if nothing else." K'reyel grinned at the other man. "I'd
forgotten that there were temperatures other than hot."
D'ale chuckled at that. He'd lived at Riverbluff himself turns ago and knew
the extreme difference. "I know what you mean. I felt the same way
when I came back," he grinned. "Are Mai and the kids coming with you?"
"In about a month, Mai needs time to pack up our things and organise
Kerranna and Mayel at least. Reyela can't make her mind up whether she's
coming here or not. but she'll be in good hands if she stays. Dad and Ciara
will keep an eye on her."
"Well then, since you're a bachelor for a few weeks you should come by
and meet my new family. Maybe have dinner." He had no doubt the story
of his romance with Lady Yanley had reached as far as River Bluff. His
'stealing' of a Lady of the Blood from the Hold had likely contributed
to some of the anti-dragonrider sentiment they'd been experiencing
lately. Though it wasn't as prevalent here in the west as it was in
the eastern half of the continent.
"I heard about your lovely new lady," K'reyel said. "How's she adjusting to
life here?"
"She's doing well actually," he nodded. Much of Yanley's former life
had been spent running a hold and she knew her business quite well.
She'd fit right in with the Headwoman and her staff and provided a
much needed insight to dealing with holders. "She's assisting the
Headwoman, and has presented me with a fine strong son."
"Nice, how old is he?"
"Four months and dribbling all over everything as he is getting his
first tooth." D'ale grinned.
"I remember how that goes." Mayel had gone through several teething rings,
and too many nights of crying with the discomfort."
"Exactly," he grinned back. "I missed all that when K'ale was little.
Kenza and I were never weyrmated and he lived mostly with his Foster
mother. It's been rather a revelation but Yanley handles it all very
well."
"And I bet neither of you would have it any different."
"You know it," D'ale agreed. "Sounds like the voice of experience," he
added. While they'd never been close, D'ale had flown with K'reyel and
knew him to be a good solid leader who could make a real difference
given the chance. Of course, being the son of a Weyrleader didn't hurt
either even if it did stunt your career.
"Indeed, and this voice of experience would like a drink right now. Care to
join me?"
"That sounds like a great idea," D'ale smiled.
"A nice cold beer..." mused K'reyel out loud. "Sound good to you?"
"Yes," he nodded. "And I know just the place. There is a little tavern
at the Vintner Hall." He didn't add that it was the place he'd met and
courted Yanley. But it was a special place to him and he frequently,
in the past, had brought his gitar and sung a few songs.
"Lead the way."
