The events of the last sevenday had left the goldrider exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally. They had lost many and there were so many more injured. She had been doing both her duties and those of the bedridden Weyrwoman. The restday couldn't have come soon enough and she was looking forward to spending it on the beach with her family.

Ikoladith had been enjoying the warmth of her ledge when her rider appeared with riding straps in hand. }:Suppose I don't want to go wherever you're off to?:{ she asked teasingly.

**Then I'll ask Calanith to give me a ride.** she replied undaunted by her gold's teasing. It was a change from the keening of a few days ago.

}:Where are we going?:{ the gold asked as she readjusted herself to allow her rider to fasten the riding straps properly.

**The beach. The children and Therricka should be there when we get there or shortly thereafter. You like talking to Calanith.** Jyramikah answered as she finished the final hook on the straps.

}:She is a wise old dragon.:{ replied Ikoladith as she stretched her wings in preparation to push off her ledge towards the beach.

Jyramikah always enjoyed the flights on her dragon. It was one of her favorite ways to relax. **As is her rider.** she replied thinking of her grandmother's unending supply of advice or antedotes about her life.

Ikoladith landed on the beach not far from where Calanith had settled herself. Jyramikah dismounted and joined her grandmother on the blanket against the sleeping green.

"Good afternoon, Therricka!" she said trying not to sound as tired as she felt.

"Good day, Jyra my dear." the greenrider replied with a smile. It was nice of her granddaughters to join her on the beach. She so rarely saw them anymore and it had started to bother her a bit.

"Have you seen Akrona and the children?"

"They should be along shortly. She mentioned bringing food with her, so that's most likely what is causing the delay. Not to mention getting the children to go where she wants them to is no easy task. You should know that by now with four children."

As the greenrider finished, Akrona and the children came into sight. Jyramikah grinned and hurried to relieve her sister of carrying her youngest. Vikajyr eagerly reached for her as she neared and that alone warmed her heart. She absolutely adored her children, but just couldn't spend as much time with them as she would have liked to.

"Say hello to Therricka and then you can go swim for a bit." Jyra told the older children as they begged to go play in the waves. They did as asked and then scampered down to where Ikoladith was wading in the shallow waves.

Therricka watched them leave and said, "I remember when you and Akrona were as anxious to be out in the water rather than sit and talk with the grownups. Now you've both children of your own and are all grown up yourselves. Tell me have we lost anyone else since yesterday?"

"Not that I know of." Akrona replied. She had been doing short shifts in the infirmary to help the understaffed healers out. She was trained in basic first aid, but had no further training nor did she really want any after what she had seen.

"We would have known had it been a dragonrider. The dragons always know and you can hear their keen in your sleep." Jyramikah commented as she watched Vikajyr play with a pile of sand. She gently removed the shell from his hands before he could stick it in his mouth. Lately everything had been headed for his mouth unless they got to it first.

The day passed peacibly and they had a nice meal on the beach. The dragons swam and splashed in the waves with the children. It took all the adults' minds off the recent tragedy and let them enjoy the time they had with their family just a little bit more than before.
