Description: Riveth rises.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 12 of Turn 8
Talwynn knew her nerves were on edge because of proddiness. She'd seen the
way Riveth sunned on a ledge, close to male dragons and arching her head.
She'd wanted to sun with Kenirath, but then a few candlemarks later was
curled up by a blue dragon instead. The sign meant she knew that her
behavior was being amped up by her green. And she wanted to scream at her
dragon to just sharding rise already, so the tension would break.
Everything had been unbearable for the last few days. The weyrlings were
coming across as immature brats. They were young. They hadn't seen Thread.
Some of them were cocky enough to think nothing could touch them. It made
her blood boil. So had everything else had been lately. Take the
Threadfall two days ago. Talwynn had thought that Riveth would be
controllable, since it had been so long since they'd flown it - but the
drills of weyrling training must have helped rouse her instincts, because
she'd nearly gone off to the fight regardless, and it had taken all her
willpower to keep her green grounded.
Today the weather was cloudy and there was a strong breeze, enough to make
it cooler. It was a good day to take wing, to feel the wind against one's
hide. So when Riveth woke from her slumber right before lunch, screaming a
note that rang, Talwynn didn't even wait for permission to leave. She
pushed back from the desk and fled for the door and the feeding grounds.
No one could blame her for her dragon's needs.
"Excuse me, E'naer, if you'll take over." D'kere, who was standing in
front of the class, followed behind Talwynn as she left. Kenirath had been
watching his couchmate for several days and he was one of the first who
followed her to the feeding pens.
Riveth ripped into a herdbeast, blood coating her muzzle as it convulsed
and died. She bent her head to rip its entrails free.
**No! Blood!** Talwynn commanded, raising her scarred hand up as she
focused on controlling her dragon.
Riveth snarled and screamed, then bent her head to suck blood. She wanted
to tear into the hot flesh, but she wanted to fly more. needed to soar far
away from the crowd of males surrounding and staring at her.
Once the blood was gone, she leapt into the sky and clawed for altitude.
She would leave the males behind. They were unworthy of her glory.
Jayth had given R'axe much notice, one minute they were above the Weyr,
bringing a transport in, and the next the blue was rocketing toward the
ground for a less than comfortable landing. After practically tossing his
passengers to the ground, R'axe jumped off, yanked off Jayth's riding
straps, and then stepped back as the blue leapt into the air to follow
after Riveth.
"Thanks for the warning!" he called after his lifemate before turning and
jogging off toward the flight rooms.
He wasn't surprised to see D'kere in the flight room when he walked in and
he gave a nod to the bronzerider. He made out the faces of K'yne and a
young brownrider **E'zar? or Z'then? Who can tell them apart?**
On the ground below, Talwynn had abandoned herself to her dragon's
emotions. She prowled around the ring considering the chasers, her human
eyes seeing the faces of the men, her lifemate's knowledge of their
dragons overlaid. She swayed towards those she/Riveth were considering -
her hand reaching out towards D'kere, and then a step closer to R'axe.
Riveth's wings glittered brighter than usual in the sunlight. She strove
for height until she reached the patchy clouds, then twisted through them,
using them to disguise herself and confuse some of the less adept chasers.
}:Who is strong enough to catch me?:{ she challenged them.
}:I am strong! We have flown well together before!:{ Jayth answered the
green's challenge as he followed her up into the high altitudes.
Kenirath waited a little below the clouds, following the green jewel as
she flitted about in a great show of agility. }:Come fly with me,
Riveth.:{ He beckoned as he waited.
Chenreth, like the young reckless dragon that he was, flew as close to the
experienced green as was possible. He saved no energy and threw himself
completely into the task of catching his first green.
Arinoth, on the other hand, experienced at catching green dragons, made
calculated moves through the air, jostling others out of the way so that
he would be close to Riveth.
One brown was young and inexperienced, and she snarled warningly at him,
diving downwards to escape him and hiding for a moment in clouds. But she
was not content to wait in there forever. Riveth's urges told her that she
needed to climb higher, to continue to go far and fast, to push herself
until she could fly no more. She hadn't flown like this in far too long.
She considered her options. Most of them One bronze she knew very well
indeed. She liked him...but she would choose based on worth! Was he worthy
in the air, or just on the ledges? The closest blue had indeed shown her
passion before - she remembered from her rider's rememberence. Another
brown seemed cannier, and she twisted away before she got too close to
him. No words? Was he disinterested?
Soon some of the inexperienced ones began to drop. Her own strength was
flagging, and her urges were shifting from the need to fly to the need to
be caught. But she would not call one to her and accept them that way -
Riveth demanded only the best, and they would have to catch and claim!
Arinoth swerved out of the way as a younger brown faded from the flight,
clearly exhausted by his foolish waste of energy at the beginning of the
flight. }:Amateurs.:{ He snorted as he brought his focus back to Riveth.
}:Lovely Riveth, come try my wings.:{ He enticed.
E'zar was a little relieved when Chenreth dropped from the flight, on the
ground he was only too happy to walk into the arms of a young flight moth
close to his age.
}:Sweet Riveth, let me show you the sky again.:{ Jayth crooned, preening
in the sunlight that glistened on his dark blue hide.
Kenirath cut Jayth off, flying up between Jayth and Riveth. }:I will take
care of you, Riveth.:{
The green twisted one last time and straight into the males behind her.
Kenirath was closer than Jayth, and familiar to her - he was the right
choice. she let him reach for and claim her.
On the ground, Talwynn reached for D'kere, aware enough of her green's
choice to be pleased by it.
D'kere wrapped his arms around Talwynn as Kenirath locked talons with
Riveth and flew her out away from the Weyr. Blind with passion, the
bronzerider pulled Talwynn down onto the bed as the others stumbled from
the room.
