Characters: K'ran, Genna
Description: K'ran remembers dancing with Genna at Lissath's Hatching.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 7 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: D'kere, Chioneth
There was a tenseness in the Weyrbowl for the last few days. Chioneth
was cranky, and the bronzes sensed it, knew what it would mean. They
tried to go near her and attract her attention, but she was snappish at
them. Rogueth watched her with great interest, hoping to chase her,
hoping this time he'd seize a golden prize.
While his dragon wanted to seek the prize, K'ran was thinking about
another goldrider. Lissath's Hatching the past month had gone so well -
he and Genna had had a lovely time dancing, and they'd talked about
their feelings. With Chioneth's rise would come eggs, and come hatching.
If Genna wasn't the center of attention, having to fulfill her political
responsibilities, then maybe he and Genna would have more time together.
Maybe they could reenact the magical night...
----
K'ran knew that Genna would have all of the congratulations to get
through before he could spend any time with her at the feast. She
wasn't the Weyrwoman to have to answer to all the dignities and shore
up their relationships, but it was her first Hatching and that was
special, which meant many of the important guests were going to be
fussing around her anyway.
He used the free time to eat and make his own rounds, greeting old
friends and getting to know some new folks. When the Harpers struck up
the beginning sounds of dance music, he excused himself from his
conversation and looked around the room for Genna. Though D'kere would
likely claim the first dance as the sire's rider, he wanted to be able
to dance with her as soon as she was available. Now hopefully she
could spot him in the crowd..
All throughout the celebrations, Genna had kept an eye out for K'ran.
She didn't want to miss him in the crowd and have him thinking she'd
forgotten about him in all the festivities. Because after all the
emotions of the day, however positive they may be, she longed for only
one thing. She just wanted to be in his arms and forget about the
world for a little while. When she and D'kere both went their own
ways, she knew right away where to go and headed for K'ran in a
straight line, excusing herself to the gentlemen who asked her to
dance as she went by.
Seeing Genna coming his way caused K'ran's face to light up. He leaned
up to kiss her cheek. "Genna. How are you liking all the fuss?"
"Oh, I'm loving it to some extent," Genna replied with a light kiss on
his cheek of her own, lingering near his ear where she whispered. "But
right now I just want to dance with a certain handsome bronzerider and
forget about it all for a while."
He was a little nervous at the idea of dancing with her, since he was
shorter and it always made him self-conscious. Weren't bronzeriders
supposed to be taller than their dance partners?
}:You are fine as you are,:{ Rogueth thought at his rider. Humans.
"I think that can be arranged," he told her, putting on a brave face.
He did want to dance. And with her. He just didn't want to
be...judged.
"Wonderful," Genna said with the heartfelt smile she saved just for
him. She grabbed his hand and tugged him over to the dancefloor. She
had no idea what was going through K'ran's mind and if she had known,
she would have been surprised. It never even crossed her mind they'd
be judged for a difference of size.
He couldn't help but give her a warm smile in return. The dance music
was lively and fortunately, something he knew. "I spoke to A'kua.
You're friends, right?"
"Yes, I was so happy for him! Lissath is going to be terribly smug,
too, she told us all along he'd impress bronze," Genna smiled as she
took her first twirl and her eyes livened with excitement.
"Did she? Quite a sense she has."
"Or maybe it was just wishful thinking," Genna laughed. "She liked him
because he sang her songs at her beck and call. She's funny like
that."
"The way to Lissath's heart is through music and flattery?" he asked
with a laugh.
"What woman isn't susceptible to that?" Genna replied with a laugh of
her own. "It's men I wonder about. What might be the way to /your/
heart?" Her heart beat a little faster as she changed the topic in a
more 'risky' direction.
"You know, I'd never really thought about the matter before now," he
said seriously. "You're having an influence on me."
"A good influence, I hope?" Genna asked, secretly just a little
frustrated that he hadn't answered her question.
"Absolutely. I always thought romance and feelings of deep love were
the province of Harper tales, or very lucky folk like my parents. I
thought Impressing meant only loving your dragon, of only having a
little of yourself for others. I've never felt like I could be the
person to fall deeply for someone. So I just have friends," he
confessed.
"But when we went to the Harper Hall, and when we dance now, it
feels...different. Like something more."
Genna felt her heart skip a few beats as he spoke. For the first time
in a long, long time she didn't know what to say and for a few
moments, she just looked at him with adoration. It was as if the
Harpers knew, because at that moment they started a slower, more
romantic tune and Genna came in closer. "Will you be my something
more, then?" she finally whispered.
He drew her closer to him as the music changed and his heart
suggested. "I would be something more for you, as long as it pleases
you."
His words warmed her heart, almost literally as she felt a warmth
spread inside of her and she leaned in a little, the intent of a kiss
clear on her face.
He kissed her, forgetting for a moment the outside world. The music
seemed to fade away, the fact they were supposed to be dancing didn't
matter. All that mattered was the pretty lady in his arms and the
feeling of their mouths together.
As Genna melted into the kiss, her whole being resonated with joy. Could
life ever be more perfect than this? Had anyone told her a few turns ago
that she would be searched, impress gold and find herself in the loving
embrace of a handsome bronzerider, it would have seemed a Harper-tale
for sure. She could feel the emotional thrills of the day, that had
still been echoing through her mind, come to rest as she felt herself
just blend with this picture-perfect moment. Lissath had done well, she
had done well, and this was her reward.
