Feydal, no, F'dal now, had just gotten Velaith fed. The bronze
hatchling wasn't a least bit drowsy yet. He was looking around with
alertness. "We should be getting into the weyrling barracks," F'dal
told him.
}:Why? Not yet, I want to see what happens..Watch out! :{ The last bit
came out as a sharp warning, when Velaith spotted the girl running at
them. F'dal turned to look. "Millie! You made it!" he cried with delight.
"Fey!" Milga stopped just before she would have slammed into him and
hugged him. "Congratulations! What a dramatic Hatching! We didn't even
get inside before you have Impressed," she was babbling.
"Yeah, it was all big drama," Fey hugged his cousin. "Is my mom here?"
he asked hopefully.
"Yes, she came with me. She was right behind me, Milga replied and glanced
backwards. "I think I lost her among the crowd," she said with concern.
Mildala was unused to this many people in one place.
"You find her, I get this fella into the weyrling barracks and you can
meet me there," F'dal suggested.

"All the others are asleep, why don't you settle down to nap too?" F'dal
asked. He just wanted to catch up with his mom and cousin but he couldn't leave
Velaith as he was now. Sniffing around and exploring.
"More like comatose," Milga murmured, watching the other baby dragonets with
fascination.
L'dran looked over when he heard the voices. He'd been so sure he was
going to Impress to a bronze. Instead Feydal had got one. And he had got brown. Not that he could really mind. Harrath was amazing. He could feel the brown's
sleepiness in his mind, and was stroking the hide gently.
"Hey there," he said to the other seacrafter and his unknown guest.
"Hi, what should I call you now?" F'dal replied and asked.
"L'dran, and I have Harrath," he said. Pointing at the other boy's dragon,
he said "What's his name?"
"Velaith." F'dal replied. "He's a handsome brown," he nodded towards
Harrath and absently pulled Velaith's head out under the cot. The bronze dragonet sneezed.
}: what is that grey, fine stuff? : { he asked.
"Dust. I'spose someone has been sweeping floors carelessly," F'dal
replied. He was having several conversations at once which was getting confusing.
L'dran was confused by what F'dal said, so he looked at the guest. "Hi
there. Friend of Fey - F'dal's?"
"Relatives, I'm cousin Milga, pleased to meet you," Milga replied. She
looked stunning in her gather dress. Her hair was so black it seemed
to shine and much neater than Fey's.
"And that's my mom, Mildala," F'dal continued introductions.
Mildala added her pleased to meet you. She was cut from same tree than
her son and niece. She was just older and bit more rounder version of
them.
"Hi Milga, Mildala. Your hair is nice," he said politely.
"Just nice? Man, L'dran, you need to know how to talk to ladies,"
F'dal said teasingly.
"Like: Millie, you look gorgeus today. Your hair is like polished
agate," he was exaggarating his mannerism.
Milga rised an eyebrow for him. "You probably don't even know what
agate looks like."
That was an impressive line. L'dran had had some success with girls,
but it hadn't come from any skill with words, that was sure. Instead
it came from his good looks and his physical skills.
"That's a nice thing to say," he agreed.
"Except agates are striped and are rarely black," Milga pointed out.
"But yes, it did sound impressive," she amended.
"You're attitude hasn't changed, dear cousin," F'dal replied. "Still
keeping your feet firmly rooted to the ground."
"I leave the flights of fancy for you," Milga replied.
"There's something nice to be said about being practical. Being a
dreamer's not always good for a crafter," L'dran said.
Milga nodded with agreement and smiled at L'dran. She had beautiful smile.
F'dal was surprised to discover he felt jealous. She was -his_ cousin.
She wasn't supposed to side against him. Or smile at them.
L'dran was about to say something else, but was interrupted when the
Weyrlingmaster's Second came in the door.
"I heard some of you were still here," A'kades said as he rounded the
corner into the barracks.
"I can't get Velaith to settled down to sleep," F'dal replied. His
bronze had actually pushed his head against Mildala and was getting
rather tentative scratching from her. He crooned.
"Harrath's asleep but I wanted to talk to F'dal," L'dran said. His
brown was fast asleep and seemed unbothered by the crowd.
}:Are you well, little one?:{ Volaith asked Velaith.
}: Yes, there are so much to see and experience,:{ Velaith replied.
Mildala started to humm an old lullaby.
}:You should sleep before lessons tomorrow,:{ Volaith said. }:That is
very busy. There will be much to do. Tonight is for sleep.:{
"Once he's asleep, do you two want to go out to the feast? It'll be
the last chance to see your families and have a bit of time to relax,"
the second said.
"I definitely want to go to the Feast before it ends," F'dal
replied. He then noticed what effect his mother's singing had on the
dragonet. Velaith's lids had started to close and he had stilled.
"Quickly, mom, get him it to his sleeping place before he drops off,"
he said hurriedly. Together they escorted the now sleepy dragonet to
correct spot. Mildala didn't stop the lullaby until Velaith was
properly asleep.
"He is just like you were as a baby, Fey. You didn't want to go to
sleep either. I had to sing you to sleep," Mildala said with tender
voice.
"Thanks mom, you're the best. Perhaps I can now get changed and join
the party."
Watching the woman sing the dragonet to sleep was a bittersweet moment
for A'kades. It reminded him of what he and Lenala had just recently
lost. But it was also charming to see that babies of all kinds
responded to that.
"Yes, the party will be good. Everyone wants to see the new
weyrlings," he said, trying to distract from the lump in his throat.
"We're better go ahead, so you can, you know, dress up in private," Milga said and blushed prettily.
"Come, aunt Mildala."
"I'll escort you to the caverns if you wish," the Weyrlingmaster's Second said.
"I'll come with you guys," L'dran said, wondering if he could talk to Milga a bit more.
