Braysin was playing with his stuffed dragon that he had been given by Sinayric for his last birthingday. The toy went everywhere with him. He had even named the bronze Cendarnth after his father's bronze. He dreamed of nothing more than to be a dragonrider like his mother and father. He was so excited that his brother was going to be standing at the hatching of Nyith's eggs. He wanted to see his brother Impress a bronze like their da.
The sound of the door opening made the young boy glance up to see Sinayric coming into their da's weyr. He had been hoping that his brother would have time to come and visit. "You came!" he cried dropping the toy and running to embrace his brother excitedly.
The candidate chuckled and returned the embrace after he steadied himself. "I told you that I was coming, didn't I?" he asked the eight turn old who looked up to him almost as much as he did their da.
Braysin let go and nodded before running off to find Br'nick who was putting the riding straps on Cendarnth. "Sinayric's here, Da!" he called as he ran.
Sinayric trailed his younger brother after saying hello to the rest of the children who were playing on the floor. They all clamored for his attention as usual. Ayrabraysi was entertaining Ictavion by building with blocks and pretending to be upset when he knocked them over. The young girl had a knack with the younger children and she was only eight turns old. She would probably be a fostermother someday or a healer, like their oldest sister.
Br'nick finished putting the riding straps on Cendarnth to make sure the adjustments were correct. The last thing he needed was for something to break with his children riding with him. He was always careful to keep his equipment in perfect working order. "I'm glad you could make it, son." he called ruffling the younger boy's hair as he waited for his oldest son to make his way to them.
Sinayric was awed by the bronze as usual. He had only been around dragons for about four turns and still was fascinated by them. He just wasn't sure that he was suited to be a dragonrider. "I'll always make time for my family, da. If you can do it, so can I." he replied sincerely. He truly respected his father despite the fact that he left them to return to Far Island Weyr for several months.
"Are you excited about the hatching, yet? It won't be much longer, I'm almost sure of it." Br'nick asked. He was always hopeful that the next hatching would be the one where Sinayric Impressed. He had a strong feeling about this hatching even if his son didn't. They had had this conversation several times over the last few months.
