Description: Rorela tries to comfort G'nir a bit.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 9 of Turn 8
G'nir was packing up his personal things from the Weyrleader's office.
Two Turns. For two Turns it had been his. It was amazing how much
knick knack had ended up there during that time. Book here, spare
shirt there. Now someone elses items would be drifting around. The
hidework would stay. The Weyrleader might change but the records and
hides would stay the same. G'nir absently turned around in his hands
the misshaped stuffed dragon his daughter had made. He found himself
missing her terribly. Perhaps he would now have more time for her. He
tossed it to a crate with rest of his property. He tasted bile again.
What good more time could give him when he could feel the darkness
inside himself? He was just and empty shell going thru the motions.
Without his rank, what was he? Who was he?
There was a soft knock on the door and Rorela stepped in without
invitation, closing the door behind her. "Hey."
"Rorela," G'nir nodded at her. "I hope K'reyel let's you keep your knots."
Her brow furrowed as she stepped forward to put a hand on his arm.
"That's the last thing I'm worried about right now, G'nir." She moved
to face him and looked at the expression on his face. "I thought
that's what you'd look like." She sighed and shook her head. She
wouldn't ask him if he was okay. He obviously wasn't. And she wasn't
going to tell him that it would be alright; that was likely the last
thing he wanted to hear. It wasn't alright right now. "I'm more
worried about you."
"I'll survive. I may not like this but I'll survive," G'nir said
broodily and gestured towards the Weyrleader's desk.
"No one is Weyrleader forever." She said softly, following his gesture
with her eyes before turning back to look at him. "You'll survive,
sure. But that look on your face will too and I hate seeing it there."
"I hate this," G'nir bursted out and gestured towards the crates he
was packing. "I was born to be a leader." He was result of generations
of Lord Holders selectively breeding with daughters of other Lord
Holders.
"And you still can be." She lifted up on her toes to cup his cheeks
with her hands. "You don't have to have the title to be a leader,
G'nir. It's just a title and you're more than that."
"Thank's Rorela," G'nir said with roughness in his voice. He wrapped
his arms around her. "You're too good for me," there was something raw
in his voice.
Rorela hugged him and then looked up him. "I already knew that, but I
like you anyway." There was amusement in her eyes, even as she enjoyed
having his arms around her.
"Whatever happens now, I don't want to lose you," G'nir admitted quietly.
Her head tilted to the side and her brows arched high. "Lose me? I'm
not going anywhere."
"I might be. I'm not sure if I can stay here after this," G'nir said gloomily.
Rorela pulled away abruptly and frowned at him. "Don't you dare,
G'nir. Don't even think about it. The Weyr still needs you, especially
now. Changing Weyrleaders can be rough and we need the bronze riders
to lead the wings and provide leadership, even without a title." She
put her hands on her hips.
"Your confidence in me is endearing, Rorela," G'nir gave her a wan smile.
"I know you." She replied simply. Rorela rose to her tiptoes and very
lightly kissed G'nir's chin. Sometimes she hated being so tiny. "So,
how about you come to my weyr tonight to relax? Take your mind off of
things?"
Unfortunately, G'nir hadn't forgotten what had happened with that
flight month and he was not going to risk it to happen again. "Thank's
but no, I don't want to hurt you too," his voice was
uncharacteristically tender.
She stepped back, and tilted her head at him. "I'm not in the
slightest bit worried about that either. Besides, we don't _have_ to
bed each other. Just
share a bed." She couldn't believe that she was suggesting not doing
anything. "Lay together."
"I think...I could need that," G'nir replied after moment of hesitation.
"Then put that stuff down and come with me for a while." She grabbed
his hand. "Come on. Forget about this for a while, okay?"
"Yes, ma'am," G'nir replied and followed her out.
