Description: The Headwoman helps out a visitor.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 3, day 8 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Corran, Zathris (not by name)
Yusanis followed the instructions Corran had given him until he arrived at
the Headwoman's office. it took him a bit longer than it should have, as
he kept stopping to admire tapestries or take note of something that had
caught his eye. Then he knocked on the door, hoping she was in.
The door opened and a crying girl came out. She was followed by the
Headwoman. "It's
alright, dearie, I'm sure things will sort out. You need to talk with your
parents
first," Zelanka said encouragingly and sent the girl away. Then she turned
to the
man behind her doorstep and smoothed away the frown from her face. " I
apologize for
that. What can I do for you?"
"No problem," he said gallantly. "My name is Yusanis and I'm here to stay
for at least a few days. I was told to report to you for temporary
lodging."
"Welcome to the Amber Hills hold. I'm Zelanka, the headwoman. Now, did
you come alone or with family?" Zelanka asked, her mind already doing
mental checking which quarters were available. If he was single, she
could place him to a communal dorm.
"Pleased to meet you. I came on my own," he replied.
"If you don't mind sharing a room, I can place you to same dorm with
the crafters who have no family. Would that be alright with you?"
Zelanka suggested.
"More than fine. As long as I have somewhere to rest, I'm pretty easy
going." He'd lived communal before, when first training up as an
understeward, tried not to trade on his father's rank or status.
"Good. You can pay for a room in a Tavern, you know," Zelanka smiled.
At least the quarters she offered were free. "This way, please," she
gestured him to follow. As she led to him, she told him about the
habits of the Hold. When the meals were served and so forth.
Yusanis listened carefully to Zelanka's words. If he was offered any
of the Steward staff positions that were open, he'd be working with
her a lot. He was getting an excellent first impression from her.
"What's your favorite things about being here?" he asked at an opportune moment.
"My favourite thing? Oh, my, you're asking difficult questions. I was
born here, it's my home. I love the people, the buildings, the
nature," Zelanka replied. She opened a door. "Here we are. That bunk
and that one, second on the left from the window are free. Take your
pick."
Each bed had a lockable chest at the footside and small table next to
it. "There's bigger wardrobes for outdoor clothes and boots in the
hallway. The bathroom is behind that door," she pointed. "When you
move out, just leave the keys to the lock. Otherwise, keep it with
you," she instructed.
"It's a beautifully designed Hold from everything I've seen so far.
The towers and the way its a complex is very appealing," he
complimented. "I could spend whole sevendays exploring, I'm sure."
Yusanis nodded with the next instructions, settling his pack into one
of the chests at the free bunk nearish the window.
"What do you do for living, Yusanis?" it was Zelanka's turn to ask
question. He didn't look like farmhand and he wore no crafter knots.
"I'm the Production Assistant Steward at Malachite Gulch Hold," he
said proudly. "My cousin let me know that there's an opening for the
head Steward position, but that there's also free space in the
Assistant ranks. I was thinking that I would like to tour the Hold,
see if the Lord Holder thinks I'm a fit, and to make sure this would
be the right place for me as well."
Zelanka nodded. "I have son in law who is assitant steward, he could
show you around," she suggested.
"That would be fantastic, ma'am. It would give me a great sense of
what things are like here if the Lord does keep me."
Zelanka smiled. "Good. If you're settled down here, I can so you where
the stewards work. Tarvon can continue from there," she said.
"That would be excellent, thank you." Yusanis gave her a warm
answering smile in return.
"You're welcome," Zelanka replied.
