Description: There's some explaining that needs to be done.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 4, day 21 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: K'reyel, Corran
Notes: takes place later in the day, around the 21st candlemark
Now that the meeting with K'reyel was over, K'ran could achieve his
next goal. **Rogueth, ask Lissath if her rider is in her weyr?**
The bronze obligingly reached out to Lissath. }:My rider wants to stop
by and see yours. Is she in her weyr?:{
K'ran paced up and down the hall as he waited for an answer. He still
had no idea what to say to her. How to even begin to let her know all
of the conflicted feelings he was having.
}: I see absolutely no reason why either of you would want to know. :{
Lissath replied icily. While the young gold had hardly ever shown any
sign of being emotionally effected before, it was obvious something
had hurt her feelings now.
Genna, however, was paying just enough attention to hear Lissath's
snarky reply to Rogueth and she felt her chest tighten. **Tell him I'm
here.** she said softly to her gold, not having the energy to
reprimand her for her harsh words. The past couple of hours had been
an emotional rollercoaster and she was exhausted.
}: But yes, she is in our weyr. :{
}:My rider wants to know because he cares about yours,:{ Rogueth said
to the young gold.
The bronze dragon had been disgruntled by K'ran's insistance to come
to Dragonsfall tonight, rather than spend the night at River Bluff and
come back for his stuff the next day. He hadn't wanted to leave
Orlaith and his new domain. Yet he still liked Lissath and had fond
memories of spending time with her when their riders spent time
together. Her tone was startling.
}:She is at her weyr. You can go,:{ Rogueth passed on to his rider.
K'ran immediately turned on his heel and headed to Genna's weyr,
knocking on the door. "Genna?" he called softly.
All Rogueth got in reply was a mental snort. It was obvious Lissath
needed some time to cool off.
When Genna heard the knock, she heaved herself to the door. Her eyes
were slightly puffy and exhaustion could be clearly read on her face.
"Hey," she said softly, as she opened the door to let him in. "Sorry
about Lissath, she's all sorts of cranky about..." she made a vague
gesture "... recent events."
He studied her face, trying to figure out how furious she was at him.
Was her queen's temperament a reflection of her own?
"I can't blame her for being frustrated. Rogueth wasn't too pleased
about losing Lissath's flight," he said as he came in. "As a rider, of
course I understood that it's their choice, more than ours..."
A flicker or irritation stirred inside Genna. He was already trying to
cover for himself, wasn't he? She tried to push it away, knowing it
wasn't a helpful thought. "I'm not angry at you. Well, maybe I am, I
don't know. But I'm not going to yell at you now. At least you came to
say your goodbyes." She cursed herself for the tears welling up in the
corners of her eyes and she crossed her arms over her chest
protectively, putting some distance between her and K' ran. How she
longed to just curl up against him on her couch and forget anything
had changed. But everything had changed. Wasn't this what she'd told
herself from the beginning? Bronzeriders went wherever their bronzes
brought them rank? She had no right to feel hurt. But if only he'd
tried harder to keep Rogueth away. If she could control a gold wanting
to gorge, why couldn't he control Rogueth?
He longed to step towards her, but he saw the distance set in her body
language when she crossed her arms. "I wouldn't have left without
talking to you first, I swear," he reassured her.
"I can imagine you have other things on your mind," Genna said in a
flat tone of voice. "I'm sorry, I really don't know how to handle
this." She raised her hands in frustration and then sat down in a
chair, burrying her head in her hands. "I know I should be happy for
you." she continued, while rubbing her face. "It's huge. But right now
I'm just confused about everything."
"It is huge. I'm confused too," he admitted, hoping the show of his
own vulnerability would reassure her.
Looking up at him from the couch, Genna tried to read his expression.
What was he really thinking about all this? Was this the end for them?
It was likely going to be. He'd be at River Bluff. As a Weyrleader no
less. They hardly had time for each other living in the same Weyr
without the added responsibilities of such high rank! But right now,
she could not bear thinking about such a future and tears started to
roll down her cheeks as she realised that. She couldn't be angry, not
right now. Right now she needed his comfort. "Just.. come here,
alright?" she said in a tight voice, motioning him to come sit beside
her. "Please just hold me."
K'ran was surprised by her sudden change in body language, and
immediately stepped towards her, sitting down and wrapping his arms
around her. One of his hands started rubbling little circles on her
back. "It's all right, Genna. It'll be okay."
"We'll see," Genna said, taking a deep breath, both to calm herself
and to take in his scent as she melted into his embrace. "We'll see."
She couldn't think clearly and she surely wasn't going to ask him any
difficult questions now, but she couldn't just agree with him on that.
He was going to leave her, after all, that was inevitable.
He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "At least Dragonsfall and River
Bluff are close in timezone. It's not as far away as Dolphin Cove or
Windswept Islands. And /between/ is only a few breaths."
"I'll try to keep that in mind," Genna said with a nod, which he
couldn't really see as she was tight up against him. "You probably
have to pack, don't you?"
"I do, but I enlisted a little help for that by borrowing my brother,"
he admitted with a chuckle.
"He'll be pleased with that," Genna said with a slight smirk,
appreciating the chance to lighten the mood a little. "Need an extra
hand?" It would be weird helping him pack up to leave, but at least it
was some extra time she got to spend with him while he was still
there.
"I'd be happy to, if you're alright with that," he said gratefully.
"I think I am, at least I get to be a part of it a little." Perhaps
she could even try to get excited for him and his new challenge. That
was, if he didn't decide to break up with her in a few days. Rhosyn
was an amazing woman and dragon's gossip was he'd spent quite some
time after the flight in her bed. The thought was enough to make her
feel sick to the stomach and the sadness welled up again. Perhaps the
packing up would be the last she'd ever see of him as her man, she
might hate herself later if she didn't at least try to help out.
K'ran got up to escort her out, took her hand and gave her a little
smile. He wanted this to work out. He really cared for Genna. He'd
make this work out somehow, he told himself. He wouldn't lose her just
because he'd gained a Weyrleadership.
