K'ran

Genna checked her bag one last time before practically bouncing her way to
the ledge of her weyr. She hadn't been this excited since Lissath's
Hatching even if she didn't really know why. It could be the idea of
finally catching some real sunshine, or the prospect of some time away from
her duties. Then again, it was probably because she got to spend that time
with K'ran.

**Are you ready, my love?** she sing-songed into Lissath's mind as she
twirled onto the ledge. Lissath just sighed and mentally rolled her eyes at
her lifemate. Sometimes she could be too much.

}}: We are ready, Rogueth, meet us above the lake and we will leave from
there.{{

}:Lissath is ready to go the the match,:{ the bronze relayed to his rider.
}:I am ready to go as well.

K'ran mounted his dragon, thumping him on the side affectionately. **You
want to sun with her.**

}:Of course. She is a lovely gold. And the beach will be enjoyable.:{ The
bronze had faint memories of the times he'd lived at a beach Weyr from his
rider, and though it was summer and Dragonsfall was nice right now, he did
love the idea of more heat and soothing sand.

Once Rogueth was aloft, he wasted no time getting to the lake and then
weaving around in a pattern while he waited for Lissath. He did want to
impress the gold with his flying and the light on his wings.

Lissath soon joined Rogueth above the lake, playfully crossing his
patterns and swishing her tail at him before taking more altitude and
waiting for the visuals. When she received the image and the word from
Genna, in a blink the gold was gone from the Dragonsfall skies. Upon
reaching her destination, Lissath glided lazily down to where she
could drop off her rider, meanwhile curiously scanning the
environment. It would be nice to find some admirers at this new place.
It would be fun to tease Rogueth with them.

Rogueth enjoyed the young gold's antics and engaged in a little
aerobatics of his own. It was nice to /between/ to somewhere he hadn't
spent much time, and to a very tropical location like how Ista and
Dolphin Cove had been.

Once they'd landed and his rider had slid off, Rogueth jumped aloft
and looked for a free spot to perch among the heights. Most of the
arriving dragons were from Dream's End, Windswept Islands'
competitor, but a few were from other Weyrs, spectators like them
who'd come to see the game. It made the heights crowded.

K'ran offered Genna his arm. "I'm glad you were interested in seeing
this match. I've always loved waterball."

"I'm quite intrigued," Genna said, taking his arm gladly. "I've never
had a chance to play before, but it looks like such great fun. Do you
have your winner picked yet?"

"My mark would be on Windswept Islands. It's home territory for them,
and they have a lot of chances to practice on the beach. Since Dream's
End is inland the team has to travel to practice, which means they
might not get as much time in. It's an advantage of beach Weyrs I find
I miss," the bronzerider said.

"Did you play in competition?" Genna asked, suddenly realizing she had
never asked. He did know a lot about the sport, but she figured that
was just because he'd lived at the Weyr for so long.

"I played on Dolphin Cove's team when I lived there. Keep thinking I'd
like to get in on Dragonsfall's, but as a Wingleader I'm a little
busier than I used to be, and I'm not sure I'd have the time," he
said, a bit wistfully.

"That's cool, I never realized you'd played," Genna said with a
slightly sheepish grin. "But I can imagine why you might be too busy
now. I considered joining once when I talked to Weyrwoman Rhosyn, but
I just haven't had the time to actually look in to it!"

"You joining would make me joining more appealing. Rhosyn captains
River Bluff's team, if I recall right."

"Yeah, it's what got us talking about it in the first place, I think.
I wonder if she's here somewhere." With so many strange people around,
Genna was fairly sure if Rhosyn was around, she'd still probably miss
her in the crowd. "We could join together," Genna suggested with a
little grin. "And get scolded together each time we're late to a
training because of our duties."

"Well, I suppose if we're going to get scolded for being late,
waterball practice for the good of the Weyr is a solid option,"
he said with a laugh.

"That is true," Genna smiled. "Though I doubt everyone would feel
that way, not everyone's a waterball enthusiast after all!" She'd have
to take it up with Saibra, see what she thought about the matter, but
it did sound very appealing.

"I do suppose it depends on the 'leaders enthusiasm," he agreed.

The two teams were getting into the water and warming up to play.
K'ran's attention was caught by a tall man with blonde hair so light
it seemed almost white, who was clowning around and gesticulating at
another teammate. "That's N'razi. I knew him at Ista. Didn't know he'd
transferred out," he mused.

"Apparently he did," Genna smiled slightly at the man's antics. "What
kind of player is he? He looks like he could be pretty fast."

"Forward. He is fast and aggressive, and his job is to take the ball
and get it through."

"He looks like he could do that, yeah," Genna laughed. "I wonder what
kind of role I'd be able to take. I'm pretty agile in the water, I
guess, but I doubt I have the aggressiveness to be a goal-getter. What is
your specialty?"

"I like defense. I'm small and underestimated, so people don't keep a
close eye on me, and so I can intercept."

"I can never imagine why one would underestimate you," Genna said
affectionately, putting one arm around his back and planting a quick
kiss on the cheek.

"Appearances are deceiving, I suppose," the bronzerider said, turning
to kiss her cheek back.

"Oh, it's starting," Genna said, getting to the edge of her seat as
the two teams set up for the start of the match. "Isn't there a big
advantage for the team that gets to start?"

"To a certain extent, yes, but if the other side's offense is good,
they're not going to keep the ball for very long. I can explain the
rules and penalties if you want as they go," he offered.

"That would be great. I keep wanting to learn, but you know how it
goes, stuff always comes up whenever you think you have the time to
sit down and read something. Or watch a game for that matter. I'm glad
nothing came up this time." It really did feel like a treat, a day
away from the daily monotomy of record-keeping and other 'goldriderly
duties'.

K'ran tapped on the bench superstitiously. "I'm glad too," he said
after a moment. "I like any chance to get away and spend time with
you."

"Right back atcha," Genna said with a delighted little sigh, moving
just a little closer to him as far as their seats allowed. She rested
her head on his shoulders as her eyes returned to the match. A burly
looking rider from Windswept hurled the ball in the general direction
of the Dreams' End players and the game was on.
