The hatching had been exciting as they always were, but this one was even more exciting since her friend Br'nick's son had Impressed. Her children were friends with the bronzerider's children as they were about the same age. Jyrakon and Braysin had both been sure that Sinayric would Impress a bronze or even a brown. The boys were still rather amazed that the boy had Impressed a green and couldn't wait to get down there to see him.
"Can we go now, mama?" Jyrakon asked impatiently as his mother was talking to another young candidate that hadn't Impressed.
Jyramikah finished consoling the young girl and then turned to her son, "Jyrakon! S'ric isn't going anywhere and I have to help the Weyrwoman console the candidates who didn't find a lifemate. It isn't nice to interrupt me when I'm talking to someone else." she admonished him gently.
Br'nick and Braysin made their way through the crowd to catch up with them. "Why don't we take Jyrakon with us and you can catch up when you've finished here?" Br'nick asked knowing that the goldrider was expected to help console the disappointed candidates who were left standing.
"Please mama! Can I go?" Jyrakon pleaded looking up at his mama with those eyes that she normally couldn't say no to. He had gotten very good at getting people to give into him by looking pitiful.
With a laugh, Jyramikah nodded, "You can go, but you listen to Br'nick and do as he says. I'll be there shortly."
She watched as the bronzerider and the boys moved off to find S'ric and his new green beauty. Once they had disappeared into the crowd, Jyramikah turned her attention to another sobbing candidate. It was difficult the very first time to stand at a hatching and not come away with a lifemate. After that it was hard, but not as terrible as the first time had seemed especially to a twelve turn old.
Meanwhile, Br'nick and the two boys had located the newly Impressed weyrling pair. The bronzerider was still a bit surprised at the fact that the dragon was a green, but not distressed like some families tended to be when their son Impressed blue or green. He had a brother who was a greenrider at Far Island.
"She's beautiful, son." he told S'ric with a smile. He had told his son that he would Impress this hatching and so he had. Hatchings brought such mixed emotions some found joy in hatchings and some only sorrow at not Impressing. He briefly wondered what it was like to stand for so many turns and never find a lifemate.
