Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 3
J'nus closed his weyr door quietly behind himself and started down the hall, his hands in his pockets as he headed toward the Dining Cavern for klah to warm his frozen fingers. He turned a corner and fell into step next to a slight woman with long, dark hair - it took him a moment before he realized that it was the new goldrider. He nodded in greeting. "Weyrwoman."
Corvera smiled easily although she still wasn't used to so many strangers knowing her name. "Please, Corvera," she extended her hand in greeting. The man's size certainly was imposing, but he seemed kind enough.
"J'nus. It's a pleasure." He shook her hand, then returned his to his pocket. This was the first time he'd seen the new Weyrwoman up close, and he was finding it hard not to stare - this was the woman who'd be dictating the underlying rhythm of their lives. "I hope you're settling in well?"
"As well as can be expected - this is _not_ the type of weather I'm used to." Corvera resumed toward the Dinning Caverns as she spoke.
"And most of my personal effects arrived intact so things are moving along."
The bronzerider raised an eyebrow. "Most?"
Corvera sighed. "Yes, most. I have- _had_" she corrected herself. "A beautiful oak table and chair set and one of the chairs didn't make it intact. A leg splintered when we came out of /between/, apparently it was something to do with the cold and the sudden change of temperature..."
"That does happen..." J'nus' eyebrows drew together as he thought. "I could probably fix that for you."
"Really?" The Weyrwoman's whole attitude brightened. "It wouldn't be too much trouble?"
"I wouldn't have offered if it had been trouble, although I can't promise you anything until I actually see the chair."
"You're positively wonderful!" She sighed. "You certainly know how to please a woman." Corvera knew that it came out wrong the moment she said it, but there was no taking it back now; she'd just have to hope he wouldn't notice...
J'nus paused mid-stride and gave her a side-long look. He cleared his throat. "You sure have a lot of faith in a man who hasn't done anything yet."
Corvera felt like an apprentice at their first gather. "Well you just have a very handy look about you..." **Shards!** Wasn't there anything she could say correctly? Was she that starved for male companionship? She was sure she wouldn't live this down for sevendays.
The bronzerider laughed. "I'm handier than you could ever imagine,"
he said with a wink as they started down the stairs.
Corvera, despite her incredible knack for keeping her composure, blushed. "Well then I'll just have to bring my chair by sometime and put your skills to the test." Mercifully they had reached the dinning caverns and she would be able to make some excuse about weyr business to get away.
"Why don't you have Mnaiath contact Kopth when you're free and I'll come to see the chair, rather than you lugging it all the way to me.
It'll be easier," J'nus said, taking pity on her and steering the conversation back onto safer territory.
"I'll do that, thank you, J'nus." She took a deep breath and sighed.
"As for now, I think I'll just be getting my food to go - I have a mountain of hides to get through before the day is out."
"Fair enough. It's been a pleasure," he said, extending his hand to shake her's, but once she slipped her hand into his grip he changed the angle and brushed his lips against her knuckles. "Don't work too hard, and I'll see you later." He released her hand, stuck his own back into his pockets, and strolled off to find his klah.
Corvera was more than a little shocked. J'nus had been rather...
charming - which was quite unexpected. Not only was there a chance that he'd fix her chair, but maybe he'd give her a little company, too. She moved on to find food with a hint of a smile playing on her lips.
