Refers to "A Gather Grim Situation"
It took far too long before Corowal learned about the incident involving visiting goldrider and two greenriders. When the word finally did siphon to his ears, he was furious. He let Zandan know exactly what he felt about it: The Captain and his guards had failed to protect a very important person and Corowal had to find it out from _gossip_. He ordered Zandan to track down the people involved. Again, it took days before he found out who the goldrider was and who the offenders were.
Since she turned out to be the Dragonsfall's youngest goldrider, Corowal felt he should express official apology, in person. Arranging the meeting with her didn't happen day or two either. He had a schedule and there was protocol involved when travelling to a Weyr your Hold didn't tithe to.
Finally he was able to go to Dragonsfall. Common courtesy dictated that he greeted the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman first.
Genna had heard of Corrowal's coming, of course, because it was her he wanted to meet and she quite dreaded the conversation. Because there was only one thing he would want to talk about, really, and that was one of the things she didn't really want to talk about. She'd found a pair of delicate looking fingerless gloves to hide the scrapings on her knuckles from her training with A'kua - she still couldn't quite get her punches right. Genna was glad Dragonsfall's climate usually allowed long sleeves and pants without question, because the way she had thrown herself into training had earned her quite a few bruises. Surely a Lord Holder wouldn't be able to appreciate them for what they were and see a woman abused.
"Goldrider Genna, It's a pleasure to meet you. My duty to you and your Lissath," Corowal greeted with sweeping bow.
"Lord Holder Corrowal," Genna replied with a deep curtsy as she stood to meet the man. "How nice of you to come visit me."
"I just wish the subject was more pleasent," Corowal replied.
"You came to talk about what happened at the Gather." It was more a statement then a question, but Genna studied the Lord Holder's face for a sign as to how he felt about the situation.
"Yes, the incident was most unfortunate. I would like to present you the Hold's formal apology. Such things should not happen. I wish that every visitor were able to feel safe and welcome in Emerald Falls Hold. Unfortunately, that is not the case in current, strained political climate," Corowal's words were formal and sincere."I have dragonriders in my family, so the current situation cause me great grief. Rest assure that the men who dared to violate the immunity of a goldrider will be punished."
Genna looked a little uncomfortable at that, but she nodded. "Thank you so much for your apologies. I know these are not your sentiments, nor that of your family. It's not so much goldrider immunity I am concerned with, but the attitude those men have towards dragonriders in general. They probably didn't even see my knots when it all started. May I ask how they will be punished?"
"They are traders, so I hit where it hurts them worst: their purses. A fine and not allowed to trade in Emerald Falls Hold for six months will teach them respect any and all visitors. Dragonrider or not, you should not have been harrassed by that way," Corowal said with steely tone.
Genna nodded, obviously a little relieved. That was something she could live with. "I agree. Anyone else having been treated that way, should have gotten the same justice." She paused for a moment, studying Corowal. "May I enquire about something entirely different? How are things with Corofel? I haven't seen him in such a long time." With the boy being fostered at Amber Hills, her mother had gone through quite some hoops to get her in the same room with him as often as possible.
"You know my boy?" Corowal was surprised, although he shouldn't have, when he stopped to thinking it. Corofel had lived in Amber Hills few Turns now and if she was from there too. She had the manner of upper class lady, so she might well know him. "Corofel is doing great, he did visit us during the Gather. He's keeps making friends and getting into mischief."
"There's nothing wrong with a little mischief every now and then," Genna smiled. "And yes, we met a few times. Not that we know each other well, but he's a nice young man and I remember our few conversations. You raised him well, if I may say so."
"The credit goes to his mother mostly," Corowal said with a sad little smile.
"She was a wonderful woman, from what I have heard," Genna said with a serious expression. "Do you see her in your children?" Perhaps a personal question, but if he didn't want to answer, Genna figured he wouldn't.
"Yes, I do," Corowal replied. "I still miss her. Felyna is a great woman, but she's not Ofelia," he continued.
Genna nodded, feeling a touch of sadness for Felyna suddenly, realising she - as the new wife - could never erase the memories of the first. That had to be pretty painful to realise. "Is Lady Felyna in good health?"
"She's having a difficult pregnancy," Corowal replied with some concern in his voice.
"Oh." Genna's face was sympathetic as she tried to think of something suitable to say. "Does she have far to go still?"
"Yes," Corowal's reply was curt.
It was obvious this was a topic the Lord Holder didn't want to talk about. Hadn't Ofelia died in childbirth? She could imagine why it was a sensitive topic. "I hope the tides will turn for her soon, so she can enjoy the rest of her pregnancy without issues." Genna said, before quickly changing the topic. "I'm glad you came to see me, Lord Holder Corowal, it's good knowing exactly where you stand on this and I'm glad the situation is being dealt with."
"I' would be bad Lord Holder, if I let something like that pass. I hope this hasn't made you hesitate to visit Emerald Falls Hold again," Corowal replied.
"I feel more welcome than ever after this visit," Genna smiled. "And I'll be sure to bring many friends to buy from your traders." Before she realized what she'd done, she winked playfully at the Lord Holder.
"I'm glad to hear that," Corowal said and winked back. He didn't mind a light flirth with pretty young woman.
Genna felt just a little relieved at the wink back, there were still and probably always would be those moments her free spirit would win from her etiquette training. It was nice when that was appreciated at least.
Corowal would had loved to spend more time but he was a busy man with a schedule. "If you have no more grievances, I must bid you farewell and return to Emerald Falls Hold."
"I have no grievances whatsoever, with you or Emerald Falls in general," Genna said as she rose to her feet. "I thank you again for paying me this visit. It was an honor and a pleasure to receive you. I wish you and your family all the best."
