Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 20 of Turn 8
After dinner, K'ran and Genna had been forced to part ways again for a while. Genna decided to follow up on her earlier idea and see if she could find Lord Holder Corowal. They'd had such a pleasant conversation when he had come to her to apologize for what had happened at the Emeraldfalls Gather, she was sure a talk at a Hatching would be even more delightful. And it never hurt to befriend people in high places.
As this was a Dolphin Cove Hatching, she was pretty sure the Lord Holder would be around and indeed she was right. It didn't take her long to find him and she greeted him with a courteous bow. "Greetings, Lord Holder Corowal."
"Goldrider Genna, a pleasure to meet you again," Corowal greeted with delighted smile and replied to her bow with his own sweeping bow. "Visiting the Hatching?"
"Yes, I try to as often as I can. They're such joyous occasions and it is a good time to meet people you don't get to see much otherwise," she gestured at Corowal himself. "How does Emerald Falls fare?"
"The usual, things tend to be quiet around this time of Turn. People just wait for better weathers so they can start plant," Corowal replied. "Would you like a dance with me?" Corowal asked when he heard harpers start a lively tune.
"Oh, I would love to!" Genna said, hearing the tune and offering him her hand. She was amazed how amiable this Lord Holder was. Then again, she was a person of notice now and it was no wonder people of rank spoke and acted more openly towards her.
Corowal took her hand and led her to a dance floor. As a Lord Holder, he was experienced dancer. Dancing with beautiful, young woman like her was always pleasure to him.
Genna let herself be led, delighted with the experience of her dance-partner. "You dance well, Lord Corowal," she remarked.
"Plenty of practise. So, where do you come from? Before Impression, I mean," he replied and asked when the dance allowed a moment for polite small talk.
"Amber Hills Hold," Genna replied, a little breathless from the lively dance. "My father was a crafter there, so are a few of my brothers by now."
"My son is being fostered there," Corowal said. "A lovely place." The music ended and bowing, Corowal escorted her out of the dance floor."What craft your father practises?"
"He's a Master Smith. Makarl is his name, maybe you know him from his jewelry," she held up her wrist, where the blue gemstones of her favourite bracelet twinkled at him merrily. "He has made quite a reputation for himself over time."
"I believe my wife jewelrybox contains piece or two from him," Corowal indeed did recongnized the name. "That braclet do look especially lovely on you," he touched the jewelry and then drew his finger to caress his skin. It was just the briefest of contacts, to see how she reacted.
Genna didn't even stop to think about his gentle caress, not registering it as anything else but an accidental touch, "Thank you, I'm quite fond of it. My father gave it to me after I left for the Weyr, as a good luck present for my first Hatching."
"Well, it apparently worked, since you Impressed your Gold," Corowal said with laughter crinkling the corners of his eyes.
"Indeed it did, I've been a bit superstitious with the thing ever since," Genna confided in Corowal, smiling back at him with laughter in her eyes. He was so easy to talk to, she'd never imagined any Lord Holder to be like that.
"Would you like to share a glass of wine with me?" Corowal asked, gently taking her elbow and guiding her towards the serving tables.
"My, my, you are full of good ideas, Lord Corowal," Genna said in a cheerful tone, letting herself be led once again. While she was a weyrwoman now, she still had her inbred Holder training and she felt it didn't hurt to adjust your attitude a little to the person you were with.
"You grace, m'lady," Corowal said. "White, red or sparkling? I can recommend the Emerald Falls' own wine," he continued.
"I'd like a dry white," Genna said with a smile. "Emerald Falls wine would be lovely." Of course, being raised at Amber Hills, she had a partiality to Vintner Hall wine, but she'd gladly please Corowal by tasting his vintage.
Corowal picked a glass for her, letting his fingers linger when handed it over.
This second touch has Genna pausing briefly, but she quickly pushed the thought aside. Lord Corowal was a married man and a Lord Holder many turns her senior, surely he hadn't meant anything by it. She took the glass and took a moment to absorb the smell, like she had been taught when tasting wine.
"It must be beneficial to grow up so close to vintner hall, you get the best beverages," Corowal mused, keeping up the small talk.
"Well, I only ever was allowed a taste, my mother didn't see it as proper for a young lady my age to be drinking more than a sip every now and then," Genna talked a little more freely of her mother these days, than she had before. "But I did feel privileged, yes, we tasted some pretty crazy experiments at times."
"Like all Holds with suitable climate, we're doing our own wines. We wouldn't dream to compete with the Hall though," Corowal said.
"It's nice to have your own stock, though. And this is really good, by the way," she gestured at the glass after taking a careful sip. "I know I'm no connoisseur, but I wouldn't be able to tell if this was a Hall-wine, or not."
"Our vintners will be delighted to hear that," Corowal said, again apparently accidentaly touching her.
**Alright, this isn't a coincidence anymore ** A slight thoughtful frown passed on Genna's face for a moment. Was the Lord Holder actually making avances? Surely he couldn't be! **He has a wife.** A wife pregnant with his child, he had told her himself. "How is Lady Felyna, Lord Corowal? Is she doing any better yet?"
"She is the same," Corowal said with sad tone. Taking the hint, he was pulling a way from her a bit. **Too bad she's not interested.**
"I'm sorry to hear that," Genna said seriously, the compassion in her voice real. "It can be so disheartening to watch a loved one suffer without being able to help. I hope things take a turn for the better soon."
"So do I and I thank you for your compassion," Corowal gave her small bow. He decided it was time to leave her alone. "I've enjoyed your company, but alas, I still have plenty of people to meet," he continued with regretful tone. Perhaps he would get lucky with some female greenrider.
"I can only imagine," Genna replied with a nod and a little bow of her own, wondering if he was leaving because she hadn't responded to his flirting. Then again, maybe she had imagined it entirely. "It was a pleasure talking to you again. Have a nice evening, Lord Corowal."
"Have a nice evening too, lady Genna," he did give her hand a parting kiss, like gentleman should before disappering to the crowd.
