D'hol went still and turned to look at Cyradis. "I like your mother."
}:Tell yours, mine says this is a Kielya Trap and not to fall in,:{
Panitath told Yumath.
Cyradis smiled serenely at both of them. "I obviously liked your
father very much when you were born Kielya. But you know how you fight
with your brothers? That sometimes happens with adults too. We have a
job to do here and we do it well. We don't always agree but we can
work together. But today is about fun so, let's go get some eggs."
She stood up and brushed herself off. "Where should we start?"
**A Kielya Trap? Remind me to ask her about that later. ** D'hol
appreciated Cyradis' quick intervention and nodded his agreement with
Cyradis' assessment. Before Kielya could interject with the "But.."
that he saw about to issue forth, he rose as well, swallowing the rest
of his wine and offering his hand to his daughter.
Cyradis had been successful in distracting their daughter. Kielya
bounced up and finished her meatroll with a final swallow. "Yes!" She
pointed to the cove across the small inlet. "There! I saw some
firelizards over there before."
Yumath rumbled his agreement and turned to Panitath. }: Tell Yours
that I think that one of the little gold cousins has a clutch on the
other side of the big boulder. But they may need to wait until after
she leaves. :{
Cyradis smiled at D'hol and nodded toward the rock. Maybe they could
get in and grab and egg or two without disturbing the little queen too
much or completely robbing her of her entire clutch.
He nodded, having caught Yumath's hint. While Kielya was hurrying
over, he stepped by Cyradis and whispered in her ear. "You think
Panitath can distract the little queen?"
She nodded with a gleam in her eyes. "I can do that," she said and
soon Panithath was warbling an invitation to the little gold cousin.
In her excitement, Kielya didn't even notice that Panitath and Yumath
was clearing the way for her. She scrambled over the rocks with glee
while her parents watched.
D'hol held Cyradis back from following their daughter. His lips
brushed her ear as he drew her close and whispered. "Let her find it.
It can be her discovery." The scent of her hair caught him and he had
to stop himself from trailing his nose down her neck.
He was saved by Kielya's whoop of glee. "A clutch! A whole clutch!"
The little gold didn't miss the whoop and swooped back protectively.
"Oh no," Cyradis breathed as her daughter darted forward. But a huge
gold head hovered protectively between the child and the little queen.
"Just one Kielya," she called. "Then run!"
Kielya squeaked with alarm and using Panitath as a shield, she darted
forward, snatched up an egg and scurried away. Yumath unfurled a wing
as the chittering, angry gold swooped and scolded, allowing Kielya to
dart from beneath Panitath to beside him, protected by the two
dragons. Cradling the egg carefully under her shirt to keep it warm,
she ran towards her parents. "I got it!"
D'hol winced as the little gold darted towards her eggs and covered
them, shrieking her upset to the dragons and the interloper that had
intruded upon her territory. He glanced at Cyradis. "We might need to
get some hot sand and leave before she gets even more angry."
"Good idea," she said and ducked between the dragons to grab a
container she always carried with her. "Fill this," she said handing
it to D'hol. "I'm sorry for disturbing you," she apologized to the
little gold trying to send her emotions of regret as clearly as
possible. The scream of rage that followed told her her apology hadn't
been accepted.
"Da is getting sand," she said to her daughter. "Give me that and then
climb up," she said holding her hand out for the egg.
After carefully handing her mother the egg, Kielya easily climbed up
Panitath and settled in front of her mother, a delighted smile on her
face as she took it back and tucked it carefully under her shirt.
Settling back against Cyradis, she called out for her Da to hurry and
when he had finally mounted Yumath, she turned and grinned. "Come on,
I've gotta get it warm and cozy in front of the fire." She bounced in
her eagerness.
Cyradis made sure all edges around the egg were tucked nice and tight
so the little stolen treasure would stay warm against her daughter.
Then she shook her head with a grin at D'hol. "Alright," she launched,
pictured where they wanted to be and gave the command.
The moment Yumath lifted into the air, the little golden queen burst
into the air behind him, scolding wildly and swooping around D'hol's
head. He ducked and Yumath blinked /between/, following Panitath as
quickly as possible. As they emerged about Dolphin's Cove, D'hol was
still scrunched down and only lifted his head when his bronze landed.
At that moment, D'hol looked up, then around as if checking that the
attacking flit hadn't followed them. He looked over at Cyradis, tugged
off his helmet and flashed a wide grin at her. "Safe!" Hazel eyes
bright with amusement, he tilted his head back and began to laugh from
deep in his chest.
Cyradis was already starting to dismount when she heard something she
hadn't heard in many turns. She slow turned to stare at the
bronzerider with wide eyes for a split second before she too dissolved
into laughter.
