Description: Alina and Saidrene discuss dresses for the upcoming Hatching.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 6 of Turn 8
"Well? Do you have your outfit picked out for the Hatching? There's always some fresh male faces around for a Hatching Feast." Saidrene hadn't met the new, young goldrider that had showed up at Dolphin Cove, so she had no opinion of her, but she was sure the Weyr was excited to have another opportunity to celebrate a new set of dragonets, even if the dam and sire were from another Weyr.
Alina was lounging on Saidrene's bed, and she eyed the greenrider's closet in an obvious hint. "No. But I really like that pink dress of yours..."
Saidrene pulled the pink dress out of the closet and pressed it up against herself before turning to Alina, "You want to wear it? It would look better on you." She dangled the dress in front of her friend, "Go on, try it on."
Alina leaped off the bed and snatched the dress out of Saidrene's hands before turning her back and pulling her tunic over her head. The dress was much nicer than the ones she was able to find from the Weyr's stores, and she dearly hoped it would fit. "Do you know what you're going to wear?"
"Probably this blue dress." She pulled the slinky, midnight blue dress from her closet. The waistline had sparkly stones sewn within that winked when the material moved. The stones were fake, of course, but pretty nonetheless.
"Oh, wow!" Alina peered over her shoulder at the dress, half-in and half-out of the pink one she was trying on. "Where did you get that!? It looks expensive."
"My mother sent it to me. I think she still hopes that I will decide to move to Dragonsfall at some point." Saidrene fingered the soft material of the dress as she spoke.
"Don't do it. It's _cold_." Alina shuddered and finished pulling the pink dress on over her head, but it wouldn't go down easily over her chest. She tried exhaling and was just able to squeeze into the bodice. "Besides, then you'd have to live with your mother. And I don't think this is going to fit me."
Saidrene put the blue dress back in the closet and then turned and surveyed Alina's progress with the pink dress. "The color suits you so well though." She came over and ran her fingers along the bodice, "I think this could be taken out some... I bet a seamstress could make it work for you."
"Maybe." And it would cost marks, something that Alina didn't have much of. She could try to take it out herself, but the results were never as good as something that was sewn to fit in the first place. The greenrider began the laborious process of pulling the dress back over her head. "Have you met that new goldrider, by the way? Lanniya? She seems awfully young."
"No, I've seen her red hair from a far. I noticed the rider that visits her from River Bluff, the clutch's sire, is much older. Like, she could be his granddaughter... That's weird, even for me, and you know how loose my morals are." She shot Alina a teasing wink.
"Aren't older men supposed to have _lots_ of experience...?" Alina arched her eyebrows and gave Saidrene a pointed look. "I'd think you'd be into that. It wasn't that long ago that you were hoping that J'nus would win a flight of yours, and he's not that far off from being a grandfather."
Saidrene grinned, having almost forgotten that she'd ever said that. "Hey, the line has to be drawn somewhere... Speaking of experience, we have not discussed N'vanik winning my last flight!"
Alina tossed the dress over the edge of the bed and picked up her tunic. "And?"
She grabbed Alina by the shoulders, "It was everything I dreamed! Maybe he wouldn't mind having another woman on the side besides Talryne." Saidrene laughed and released Alina. "Jeyme got lucky, she got a flight with him and had his kid... Well, maybe it's his, but still, it's an excuse to see him."
"I think you're better off hoping that Loseth catches Ashareth on her next flight." Alina shook her head and pulled on her tunic. "But I still don't see why you're so into him."
"After you've been in his furs you'll see." Saidrene waggled her eyebrows, and then turned her attention back to the pink dress. "Get the dress tailored for you, you'll look great in it.... I am sure J'ackt will notice."
Well, it _was_ her birthingday in a few days. If she thought of the dress as a birthingday gift, it was easier to accept. And besides, Saidrene had a million dresses in her closet. Alina pretended she hadn't heard the last part. "Are you sure? Once it's tailored, I can't give it back."
"I'm positive, take it." Saidrene smiled. "But I'd better see you dancing with some cute men in it."
Dancing was fun. "One can only hope," Alina said.
