N'vanik

Tsogath had been lying on her ledge all morning, soaking in the sun
and resting in a deep slumber. Her hide was steadily looking brighter
and brighter as the sun rose and illuminated it. Now it was shortly
after the noon candlemark and she was glowing. A few male dragons
nearby had observed it and kept an eye on her, knowing that when she
woke, they would have a prize to pursue.

And the time was now.

The green awoke. She stretched on her ledge long and slow, arching her
back and angling her wings to catch the light most appealingly. She
glittered under the midday sun. Then she bugled a high, piercing note.
It seemed to echo around the Weyrbowl and throb in the air. It was a
noise none had ever heard her make before.

}:I dare you!:{ she shrilled in a loud mindvoice that echoed the noise
of her bugle. And then Tsogath threw herself off the ledge and into
the sky. She hovered in the air so the males could see her, then dove
rapidly towards the feeding pens, striking a small wherry and tearing
into it.

Caprith took up the challenge, rushing from his weyrledge and gouging
a new set of marks into the stone ledge as he flung himself into the
air and then settled on the weyrrim to watch the green. She fed as if
she were a little queen. A deep thrum vibrated Caprith's body.

}:Tsogath is mine!:{ Loseth spread his huge wings as he bugled his intent.

N'vanik drew a sharp breath as the bronze's lust hit him. It wasn't
surprising, considering how Loseth favored the green and N'vanik
himself favored her rider... though not at all for _this_ reason.

Tsogath shook her head once, twice, fighting some internal conflict.
Then she bent her head and sucked the blood from the wherry. She
struck at a second one and ripped open its throat, sucking greedily.
She needed fuel for her lust!

When done, she reared up and screeched another piercing challenge. She
leapt for the sky. }:Catch me, if you can!:{ she screamed, winging up
towards the sun.

On the ground, A'vel was being pushed towards the flight cots by a chaperone.

Although things had not gone quite as planned, K'zel found himself
hoping that Caprith would win Tsogath. He knew that A'vel wasn't ready
for this flight, the others might not.

One of the last riders to slink into the room was R'nar, with a full
scowl intact as his young bronze Iorath plied Tsogath with tales of
her beauty and his prowess.

Zith trumpeted his own readiness as Tsogath took to the sky. He was
already a fair hand at catching greens, and was confident that Tsogath
would be his as well. }: Tsogath, so lovely, so magnificent... :{ He
crooned towards the green. }: I am who you need! :{

J'ackt entered the flight room and paused at the sight, then shrugged.
While he didn't really like it when Zith chased a green with a male
rider, he couldn't deny his bronze the chase. Besides, he'd only ever
caught greens who were ridden by women and despite the lust shimmering
under the surface, he didn't look on A'vel with any sort of desire.

For A'vel's sake N'vanik hoped a blue would catch Tsogath, but
Loseth's desire began to take over and he wanted to _win_.

Loseth bugled his intent as he followed the green, as fast as his
large body would allow. Sweet nothings weren't his style. Let Tsogath
choose him for his size and strength, his skill. He led the Weyr, it
should be clear to her he was the best.

Tsogath was young and eager, and it showed in her style. She was
racing out from the Weyr, follwoing the ribbon of beach as it wound
westward. All of her energy was going into far and fast, not the
pretty aerial tricks a green specialized in. She wanted to feel the
wind against her wings, cooling her lust-heated body.

}:Who is clever and quick?:{ she called, assessing her chasers. She
was pleased by her options. Would she choose Loseth who had paid much
attention to her? Caprith who had flattered her? Iorath, who had flown
beside her many times? Those were dragons she knew. But there was also
young bronze Zith, who seemed deeply passionate.

Her rider didn't seem to have any preferences to influence her, so
Tsogath was free to consider them all.

Iorath didn't say it aloud, but he puffed out his chest and emitted a
brassy warble in response to Tsogath. Clearly he was feeling clever
and quick. He was young and fresh and his strength never ending- or so
he thought as he flew hard at the green.

Caprith, whose lithe, blue body was quite smaller than Iorath's, had
caught many greens in his Turns, so he knew better than to expend all
of his energy at the beginning. He would nimbly follow Tsogath until
he was ready to slip past the bulkier bronzes and browns to claim his
prize.

Greens on their first flight usually burned out quickly, not knowing
the limits of their energy. Loseth knew that if he was going to catch
her, speed was not the way. He had to anticipate, be more clever than
Tsogath and the other chasers.

Zith was steady in his wing beats, refusing to be jostled aside. There
were experienced males here, true, but he'd won his fair share of
greens as well. Instead of calling out to Tsogath, he instead sent
mental images of them falling far in flight, wrapped snugly around
each other and the potential joys he could bring her.

The dragons were jockeying closely behind Tsogath and she turned her
head long enough to look and assess. Some had sent sweet words. Some
had sent her images. Others had been silent. She preferred to be wooed
both by smart flying and by an appeal to her.

Iorath was a clutchmate and she knew him well. But Loseth had been so
attentive, and led the Weyr... She turned towards him, stretching her
wings out...

**No!** the part of the flying green that was A'vel shouted mentally.
He didn't want to wind up with N'vanik that way...

Startled by the ferocity of her lifemate's objection, but willing to
accede to him, Tsogath turned sharply away and downwards from the
bronze in a dazzling move.

But the force of her quick maneuver strained her wing backwards and
she let out a sharp noise of pain. The move also put her in range of
another bronze, and she fell right into Zith.

With an immediate grab, Zith snatched the little green, wasted no time
in twining his neck with hers and clasped her close. Lost in Zith's
triumphant lust, J'ackt surged forward to claim his own prize.
