Planning In Advance

Writers: Avery, Paula
Date Posted: 3rd July 2017

Characters: Yusanis, Zelanka
Description: Yusanis asks Zelanka how Turn's End works at Amber Hills.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 12, day 19 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Zathris

Yusanis had been looking over the hides of the last two Turn's End
celebrations to figure out what had been done at Amber Hills, and then
looking at reports of what had just come in. But reports of what had
happened in the past were sometimes different then statements from
people who had lived through it. So he picked up the hides and headed
down to the Headwoman's office.

"Yusanis, what can I do for you?" Zelanka greeted when the Steward
stepped in to her office. This time of the Turn was always busy for
her. She seemed to spend way too much time in her office, going thru
records, inventories and whatnots.

"I wanted to talk with you about Turn's End planning, if you have a
moment. It's going to be my first Turn's End here and you're going to
have the best ideas about it," Yusanis said.

"Yes, it's that time of the Turn again," Zelanka replied with a smile.
"Take a seat. I've planned more Turn's Ends that I care to admit."

Yusanis gratefully took a seat. "What's a usual celebration here like?"

"Normally, there's the Gather, races, Lord Holder's reception and
dancing. Oh, the Harper Hall's announcements and plenty of wedding,"
Zelanka listed out. The Turn's End celebrations tended to follow a
same pattern all over Southern Holds.

"I love races," Yusanis said. And at Amber Hills, with their
bloodline, it was sure to be impressive.

"How open does Zathris have the dinner reception? My father keeps his
closed to only the lords and ladies of the minor holds that look to
him."

"That varies, last time it was resticted, due circumstances. You may
want to check from him how he wants it handled this time around. And
there's never an Amber Hills Gather without a runner race," Zelanka
replied. "It just isn't a Gather without them."

"I very much agree. As a boy I was able to visit once," he remembered.

"Do you have any concerns about supplies, stocks, or labour on your
end?" he asked.

"Nothing major right now. We don't even star planning the menu until
closer to the event," Zelanka replied. "We're pretty well staffed
right now." Despite the occasional women runnig off and abandoing
their lives. Zelanka never understood them.

"That's good. I'll see about setting up a labor shifts for when it's
time to do all of the setup," he said. "I just hope none of those
sharding bandits get in the way."

"So do I," Zelanka replied. "We need more staff when the acual even is
on the hand, for the preparations and to the actual Feast. I have a
list of people I usually recruit when I need extra pair of hands. Do
you want a copy of it? Most are volunteers."

"Please, it will help," he said.

"I'll send you a copy," Zelanka promised and wrote her self a note.

"I appreciate it. Is there anything you want me to start working on
arranging before it?"

"The wines and other strong drinks. Since the Vintner Hall is next
door, we usually get a the best pick but there's no reason to draggle
it. The other Lord Holder will be sending their orders in well in
advance," Zelanka replied.

"I can head down there this afternoon, if you think that's best.
Anything else we need from them?" he offered.

Zelanka shook her head. "Rest we can produce of our own. Unless we
want to serve something exotic."

"I'll leave that decision up to your capable hands," he said with a
smile. Yusanis trusted Zelanka to put on a marvelous show.

"Thank you. Well planned is half done," Zelanka replied.
