Description: Lenala shows a little bit of jealousy when M'galec comes home late _again_.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 20 of Turn 3
Shards. The was dark again. M'galec gently tiptoed through the weyr and into their sleeping room. He had wanted to be back for dinner. Promised he would, in fact. But then F'tuk's fever spiked and they had to open him back up and find the piece of thread that had been missed the first time around.
He slipped off his boots, his shirt, his pants and slipped under the covers slowly, trying not to wake the goldrider. At least _she_ had been able to get to bed at a decent hour.
She'd gone to bed, but it was soon obvious that she hadn't gone to sleep.
"Is everything all right?"
"Yes love," he whispered, sliding an arm under the pillows cradling her head. "Just a late night is all."
"In the infirmary?" she asked quietly.
"Mmmhmmm," he hummed as he pulled the hair back from her neck and gently kissed the skin it exposed.
Lenala shivered at his touch, but it didn't distract her from her questions.
"Were there a lot of you there?"
"No, most people went home candlemarks ago," he murmured. It had been a while since they had both been awake at the same time in the evening, and she was so warm and smelled so good.
"Then what were you doing there?" Lenala pressed. "Surely you deserve a break _sometimes_."
"Not when someone needs to be operated on or risk losing a limb," he murmured as his fingers traced along her thigh. This was much better than just curling up and sleeping for a couple hours.
"But you're not the only surgeon," she protested. The more time M'galec spent in the infirmary, the more convinced she became that Abrei was scheduling M'galec with more shifts just to keep him away from her.
"Couldn't the Weyrhealer take care of it?"
"She was there too, assisting." Shards but she smelled good. He pressed more kisses along her neck. She was expecting him to talk _way_ too much.
"Oh." Of _course_ she was. Sharding Abrei. "Well, she needs to remember that you have other duties and not take up so much of your time."
"But I am a healer, love. This _is_ what I do. Sometimes there is no planned schedule for it. Though I know I would much rather spend the time here with you."
"I know," Lenala replied with a sigh. "I just... it seems like Abrei should be able to get along without you _sometimes_. She's supposed to be so smart." "She is. But so am I," he whispered in her ear. "Your weyrmate has some of the most talented fingers for surgery on Pern. And sometimes outside surgery too."
Lenala squirmed onto her other side so she could face M'galec, sliding one hand onto his hip. "It's been a while since I got to spend any time with your talented fingers, you know." "Oh, trust me Lenala, I _do_ know. They have sure missed you."
Her hand slid down slowly, fingers caressing. "You need to stand up for getting a little more time for us, then. I've done my best to make sure _I'm_ here." His eyes closed as he felt his body responding to her. It had been a long time. Days at least. He wished she would stop talking! "I cannot dictate when a medical emergency happens or when someone needs surgery. I spend every moment with you I can, love. And trust me, I would rather be here with you."
Lenala had spent the last month being sweet, demure and romantic with M'galec. Now, however, she was going to use her extensive experience to convince him of just how much he'd been missing when he'd been puttering around the infirmary with Abrei instead of spending time with her. Maybe if he knew the sort of things she was capable of doing for him, he would be a little more anxious to find his way home...
