Sarian hesitated nervously for a few moments outside N'vanik's door, wondering if it was a good idea to be visiting N'vanik. She'd hardly expected U'kaiah to march from her weyr to a confrontation with N'vanik, and now she was feeling vaguely guilty. If she hadn't told U'kaiah, so many things never would have happened...
But she hadn't been the _only_ person on U'kaiah's desk. So she braced herself and knocked on N'vanik's door.
"What now?" N'vanik called in annoyance. Couldn't people just leave him alone?
Sarian frowned. "I don't know," she retorted loudly enough to be heard clearly on the other side of the door. "Probably not another office, though."
Shells. "Did you come to apologize for your big mouth?"
"Not from _this_ side of the door I didn't!" Deciding that he might as _well_ have asked her to come in, she shoved the door open and stormed inside. "Besides, you weren't there. U'kaiah was about to punch _my_ face in, and I don't think I would have survived it."
"So you didn't just go tell him?" N'vanik asked from his seat on the couch.
Sarian snorted. "Not until he showed up with my underwear. How did it end up in his hidework? It had to have been you because I'm pretty sure _I'm_ not the one who took it off..."
He got up from the couch. "What?! So it's _my_ fault that _your_ underwear ended up in his hidework? How could you be stupid enough to not notice that you didn't have them when you left?"
She smirked at him. "Obviously because I don't always wear them."
"Well you were wearing them _that_ time! You'd forget your sharding head if it wasn't attached!" N'vanik yelled.
Sarian planted her hands on her hips. "Why are you yelling at _me_? You were there too, and I have teeth marks in some pretty unusual places to prove it!
And _you're_ the one who wanted to be in U'kaiah's office to begin with!"
"You went along with it!" There wasn't much of a reply to that, so she threw up her hands. "Well, fine! So it was a bad idea! But you don't have to yell at me!"
"Haven't you heard? That's my new hobby. Yelling at people is the only excitement I get to have." N'vanik went to retrieve his glass from the table.
Glasses and bottles were starting to pile up in his weyr.
"Well not a lot of people want to talk to me right now," Sarian replied sharply, dropping on to the couch once he was gone. "Everyone in this Weyr loves U'kaiah, so now I'm a horrible person."
N'vanik chuckled. "Looks like we're in the same boat, Short Stuff." His anger at her had faded, at least for the moment. "Well, I don't like it," she said with a scowl, crossing her arms over her chest. "The men aren't nearly so friendly as they used to be. Except for the ones who want to see if I'll try it again with the new wingleader, and even I eventually learn better."
"Yeah. No more of that for me." He took a deep swallow from his glass. "Care for a drink? I've got a selection on the table."
"Sure." Sarian sank lower on the couch. "Please tell me we're going to get drunk and naked, because I haven't had a decent time since we _were_ in U'kaiah's office."
N'vanik sat beside her. "That _would_ be more entertaining than yelling at you." And it would be better than spending the evening alone. Maybe she'd wear him out enough that he'd sleep deeply wouldn't have nightmares.
"I should hope so," Sarian retorted. "You think we can come up with something exciting enough to keep our minds of the fact that everyone hates us?"
He slipped an arm around her shoulders. "If we can't do that, then we _really_ have problems."
