Description: Kedon becomes K'don and holds tight to Maciath's reassurances that his parents will not be upset with him for forgetting to look up at them
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 17 of Turn 9
Kedon's mouth fell open, and his eyes went wide. He could feel a warmth in his mind, a tingling at the base of his skull. A very sharp heat in his knees. He realized he had fallen to a kneel, and the heat of the scorching Sands was beginning to seep through the thick white robe he wore.
He did not know how he knew, but he knew the little brown dragon's name.
"Oh, Maciath," Kedon breathed.
Little! Kedon supposed that the brown was little only by comparison to brown dragons grown. It was true that he – that Maciath – did not seem taller nor longer than his clutchmates, but he was thicker. The brownling seemed to be as sturdy as a stone, weighty and dense. Kedon realized only after he had done it that he was running his fingers over the brown's egg-goo sticky hide, a ruddy sandstone brown, not wanting for a moment to break the contact between the two of them.
Kedon could feel him. Feel what he was like. He knew the little brown, knew him as though he had known him all his life. As if he had always been there, and the memories had suddenly been uncovered.
Kedon laughed.
"Of course, we can get something to eat. Shells, but you're hungry. Shells. Your shell..." Kedon glanced back at the egg from which Maciath had Hatched and wondered if he would be permitted to save a bit of it.
}:You always were so sweet and feelsome,:{ rumbled the brown in a bit of a laugh. It was a joyful laugh, not a mocking one. }:Your father and mother are looking, K'don,:{ he said.
"So are yours," said K'don – K'don! – unable to tear his eyes away from the colorful swirls in Maciath's eyes.
}:I'm fit to eat a whole herdbeast,:{ said the brown. }:I would love to stay here and touch you forever, my heart, my life, my love, but I am afraid my gut will eat itself if I don't fill it with meat. There will be time yet for us to draw near. For now, let's feast and be mirthful!:{
"You... You're so..." said K'don as he realized he was crying. He wiped his eyes and cheeks on his sleeve and stoof to lead Maciath out toward the waiting bowls of meat. "You're... whole. Steady. Strong. I never knew just how well I would know you right from the beginning. Have you really been here in my heart all along?"
}:It feels so, doesn't it?:{ said Maciath as he began to chomp.
"Chew, please," chided K'don. "You'll be ill if you swallow it all whole."
}:You were waiting for me from the truest beginning of my sight and my breath. Were you not always in my heart? I must have also then been always in yours, for were you not another man before our eyes locked together?:{
"I was Kedon before... and now I'm K'don. Maciath, you are a wise little thing."
}:I know.:{ There was a bit of a mental grin that K'don could feel, and it made him smile, too.
"Chew, wise little thing."
}:Sorry.:{
K'don began to realize just how absorbed he had been in Maciath. How he had not looked up to lock eyes with his parents.
}:They will understand. They were here, too, once. You know, I, too, did not spare a glimpse for my mother nor my father once I saw you. I think they will not hold it against us.:{
K'don poked the end of Maciath's muzzle.
}:Right. Chew. Sorry.:{
