Zathris

Zathris

Eilomar was bit disappointed when the dragonrider who came to fetch
them to Amber Hills was not his daughter. But supposedly Aileyan
wasn't available everytime he need transportation.

"Master Eilomar and wife? I'm M'shan, rider of brown Juth from
Dragonsfall, your transport today," the brownrider gave the a polite
half bow.

"Greetings, M'shan, my duty to you and yours," Eilomar replied after
popping a nod of affirmation.

Juth took one look of the heavy-set harper and gave his rider a mental
sigh and image of being crushed under weight.

**Oh, come on, you've carried heavier loads. Besides, I'm not
light-weight myself.** Difference was that M'shan was muscle-heavy.

Merlish's eyes grew large at the site of the brown. He was so much
bigger than the green she was used to riding! **Shards, I just hope I
don't fall off of him when we get to Amber Hills!** Turning to the
rider, she gave him a curtsy. "My duty to you both, M'shan,"

"Ma'am," M'shan bowed to her. "You can give me your bags and I attach
them to Juth's straps."

Eilomar handed him his bag. He had probably packed too much for a
two-three day trip.

"I have a daughter in Dragonsfall, you know," he said.

"I know, Aileyan," M'shan replied.

Merlish wondered if he knew her because his brown had won one of
Aileyan's Flights, and the thought caused her to blush. **Thank the
Egg he can't hear your thoughts!**

"Let's get going," M'shan said, he had several transport-trips to run
today. He deftly loaded the bags and then helped his passangers up.
Juth obediently crouched down and offered his leg as a step.

Putting her arms shyly around the dragonrider's middle, she was
surprised at just far around him she could reach! She would not allow
herself to enjoy the feeling as she said, "I'm ready."

As soon as Eilomar declared he was ready too, Juth took to air. The
brown took an extra circle around the Hall before going /between/.
They reappeared over the busy air-space of Amber Hills Hold.
Juth pronounced his presence to the watchdragon and then had to wait a
bit before cleared to land.

Generally Merlish tried to keep her eyes and mind off of the fact that
she was balanced on the back of a flying beast high off the ground,
but this time, she dared to take a peek. There it was! Amber Hills
laid out below them! She could see the race track, the food stalls,
all the people milling around. And that there must be the stage her
husband would be performing on, and that area looked like it had been
set aside for dancing! It was exhilarating!

"Beautiful," Eilomar murmured. "The view from the air never cease to amaze me."

Juth backwinded to a gentle landing and M'shan patted his neck as a
thank you. "We're here," he started to unclip the straps.

It was all Merlish could do not to rip the straps off and tumble
unceremoniously to the ground in her excitement, but she pushed down
the urge and waited for the dragonrider to go first. Her mind was
already racing with all the things she wanted to do! **I swear I can
smell the meat pies from here!**

M'shan helped them down and then removed their bags.

"Thank you for the smooth ride;" Eilomar remembered his manners.

A drudge fetched Zathris, who had been waiting on the Master's
arrival. The Lord Holder had been personally greeting dignitaries as
they arrived at Amber Hills in preparation for the Gather. This one he
was particularly interested to meet because he was hoping to get a few
songs out of the man while the harper was visiting.

"Master Eilomar," he smiled, approaching the harper as his eyes
flicked to the much younger woman by his side. Zathris couldn't
contain the thought that flitted through his mind, **How had the older
man secured such a pretty young wife?**

"Lord Zathris? Pleased to meet you," Eilomar replied. "Amber Hills is
always a lovely place to visit."

Merlish's eyes grew a little wider. The Lord Holder of Amber Hills
had come to meet them? Master Eilomar acted so calm about it! Like
he was used to be greeted by the most powerful man in the Hold! His
young wife just hoped she would remember her own name should he ever ask it.

Zathris shook Eilomar's hand, "This must be your wife then?" He
captured Merlish's hand and gave her a bow befitting a Lady.

"Yes, this is Merlish," Eilomar replied.

Merlish barely whispered a, "M'Lord," as she gave him a curtsy that
almost touched the ground. A Lord Holder was holding her hand!

The Lord Holder smiled, "A pleasure to meet you." He released her hand
and then gestured toward the entrance, "Please, come in, I'll have a
drudge show you to your rooms."

"We thank you of the warm welcome, Lord Zathris" Eilomar replied. He
was quite used to dealing with Lord Holders. They were men like
everyone else. Just with higher rank and prestige.

Merlish, on the other hand, was having trouble not letting her mouth
hang open and resist the urge to gawk at everything around her. She
had heard of Amber Hills, but to see it with her own eyes... It was
hard not to be impressed!

Zathris watched as the couple retreated with a drudge showing them the
way. He hoped that the Master Harper and his lovely wife had an
excellent time at the Gather. The best way to spread something was to
invite harpers, as long as everything went smoothly....
