Description: Kiomo recieves his first assignments from Lord Ishek
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 10, day 6 of Turn 3

Ishek stood outside the doors of Kiomo's room. It was before lunch, but only shortly, and he hoped that the man was there. He couldn't image him well enough for Yimas to go find yet. He'd finally found a job for Kiomo to do- something that would be a good test for the new Holder, to see if he was as good as he claimed, knew as much as he said. "Kiomo?" he called.

"Yes my Lord," the Holder said, opening the door with his hair still rumpled and his clothes haphazardly thrown on. "Forgive me. I usually am awake with the sun! It must be the time difference. My body is still trying to catch up. My sincere apologies..."

"My apologies for waking you." Ishek said quickly. "I had no idea that you wouldn't be awake by now." he admitted.

"Neither did I, sir," Kiomo said with a guilty smile. "But please, sir.
Come in."

Ishek did so. "Are you too tired to talk work? I don't want to spring anything on you when you're exhausted, I know that's never good."

"No sir. I'm awake now." The Holder lead him to a chair in his living area. "Please tell me what I can do."

"I was wondering if perhaps you would be interested in assisting the Lady Thalia. There's going to be a small dinner for the River Bluff Weyrleaders." Ishek explained. "I was wondering if perhaps you know enough about such things to assist the lady in planning it?"

"Of course," Kiomo smiled. "I would love to assist any way I can. We had our Weyrleaders at our Hold quite a few times. I would be more than happy to arrange it. Now is this to be a quiet affair? Or a Hold celebration?"

"I'd say a smaller affair- we've already had a Hold celebration, and I don't want to dangerously deplete any stocks. Winter's ending soon, but you never know what could happen."

"A wise idea," the young man nodded. "Besides, since this is your first time meeting them, you can best get the gauge of them in a more intimate setting. It sets a good tone."

"That is my hope." Ishek said with a nod. "I'm grateful for your willingness to assist me in this matter." **It gives me a chance to see the work you do and make sure you're not a threat...** "It also makes it easier to talk business without the entire Hold overhearing."

Kiomo stood and walked over to the small desk he was allocated and took out a piece of hide and something to write with. After jotting down a few notes he asked, "How many people would you like to invite? Would it be only yourself? Or would you like others from the Hold to be present?"

"I think it best if we leave it restricted to as few as possible. I think that too many in a private conference would be rude- after all, only they will be in attendance. I would say merely my Lady and myself, but I have no Lady. I believe myself and potentially one other. Perhaps Lady Thalia, as she's helped see the Hold through, or good Penryn, who took charge- but I am unsure of what to do just now."

"For sure you will need a lady by your side. She can make the evening run smoothly," Kiomo said thoughtfully. "A good Lady is one who can make everyone feel comfortable, and if topics of a sensitive nature arises, a Lady her knows her job well can diffuse the situation. Yes, Lady Thalia has probably been well trained. Also, I would include your steward and his lady in the dinner. You want to have the advantage in numbers, though not make it obvious that you are doing so."

"Penryn does not have a lady." Ishek said quietly, allowing himself to say no more. "The three of us, then, for the two of them. They stand together as a team and run the Weyr, we run the Hold. It seems balanced." He paused. "Out of curiosity, why should we have the advantage in numbers?"

"Politics is always a fight, but usually conducted on friendly terms.
You want to have an advantage to establish the higher ground. They will be less likely to put too much pressure on you if you have the advantage," the holder said as almost an after thought. He was preoccupied with another matter. "Penryn has no wife? That would give you the advantage over the Weyrwoman. It would not be wise. You want a balance in gender so she doesn't feel threatened by so many men in the room. Penryn will need to escort a lady to the dinner."

"Need to?" Ishek raised an eyebrow- he might know politics, but Ishek thought he was being rather a bit...assertive. "But who would he invite?" He would give Kiomo the benefit of the doubt. Though he still wasn't sure about this whole numbers thing. **Perhaps I should just make it Thalia and myself, though I would like Penryn along...**

"Your sister, perhaps?" Kiomo suggested with a shrug. "She is acting Headwoman, and that would give you the balance in gender. Also that way it will not look like you intend to make Lady Thalia your Lady Holder."
The Holder studied the Lord Warder's face carefully. "Unless that is your intention."

"At the present time I'm unsure." Ishek said. "I refuse to rush her." he said firmly. "She will make her own decision- even if I offered, if she refused I would do nothing to penalize her for it. As for Miralani..."
He thought. "Yes, I like the idea."

Kiomo smiled. "Well, one thing I can tell you about being Lord Holder, not many women would refuse you." He made another note and set the pen down. "I think that's enough to get it started. How long are you intending for their visit to be? Just an evening? Or all day? They may like to see how the Hold and Halls are fairing."

"Just the evening." Ishek said. He didn't want Kiomo to know that he hadn't thought about that. "We can arrange a tour at the meeting, if they wish one- gives us more time to set it up, get permission from the Halls, etc."

"All right," Kiomo nodded, picking up his pen again and jotting that down. "That should be it then. I'm sure Lady Thalia and I can work out the details."

Ishek smiled. "Good." he said. "I appreciate your willingness to be of help on this matter."

"I am at your service, sir," Kiomo smiled.

"I appreciate it." Ishek stood. "Should I leave you to your work- or lunch, or whatever else you have planned?"

"I'm at your disposal for anything you need of me, sir. Though I may need to change into something a bit more appropriate."

"That's fine, obviously. I have work I need to go deal with, anyway."
Ishek sighed slightly- he couldn't stand it, sometimes. "Contact me if you need anything else, will you?"

"Yes sir," Kiomo nodded. "Just leave it to me."
