It's Just Flight Lust... Right? (3/3)

Writers: Avery, Heather
Date Posted: 19th January 2019

Characters: Riveenata, K'lvin
Description: Riveenata and K'lvin wake up after Savith's flight.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 23 of Turn 9

Utterly and completely satiated. Muscles warm and loose. Heart? Still
beating, thank Faranth. It was the unfamiliar sound of foot traffic
outside of the door that initially caught K'lvin's attention. He never
heard foot traffic outside of his weyr.

He opened his eyes to an unfamiliar ceiling and walls. A flight room.
He'd woken up in enough of them to know immediately where he was now.
There had been times in the past when K'lvin had woken not remembering
who the green's rider had even been, but he didn't have to look to
know this time. It was Riveenata.

Without moving or even looking at her he could feel that well of
desire pooling again. What was that about? He'd been around the young
greenrider plenty of times when they were both recovering from the
River Bluff crisis. They'd danced at a Hatching, they'd shared laughs
and talked about their dragons. But over the last few months it seemed
as if he noticed her in more places, or found himself randomly
thinking about something he wanted to share with her.

Right now, however, he didn't trust his body's reactions. It was too
common for your body to betray you directly after a flight, and since
it was the first time Xmrenth had actually _caught_ since they'd been
cleared, K'lvin felt sure things had been more intense as a result.
Beyond that, he couldn't know how pleased she was to be waking up with
him. Perhaps she would have preferred the young R'nar again, someone
close to her age, or that F'lin he'd seen her with multiple times
before.

K'lvin didn't move but remained in the comfortable place with her at
his side, content to enjoy it for just a moment longer.

It took Riveenata longer than usual to wake up from the sleep. She'd
been looking forward to Savith's rise to unwind the tension that
proddiness had been playing on her the last few days. She always woke
up feeling wrung out in a good way, and often with enough hanging over
flight lust that she would be up for a second go around. As she came
back up this time, she noticed first, not residual flight desire, but
the sensation of real contentment echoing through her. She was curled
against a warm, hard body, with an arm slung against her. She felt
safe and protected and _good_. Whatever dragon had won Savith, his
rider must have been very skillful.

She touched her green's mind. Savith was curled on a ledge, dozing,
but obligingly opened her eyes for her rider to see through.
Riveenata's first thought was, **Another bronze?** sent teasingly,
because Savith did seem to keep going for them. Then there was a
moment of surprise as she recognized the scars on the bronze's hide.
It was Xmrenth.

Xmrenth...which meant K'lvin had won her flight. And was the warm body
lying in bed next to her. Her thoughts were racing along as she
considered it.

It wasn't that she was repulsed by him. There was no reason to be. The
*dragons* decided the matter, and the riders complied, no matter the
age difference or if they disliked each other or weren't each other's
type, that's how bronzeriders responded to male greenriders she knew.
It's just that she hadn't thought about him as a partner in that way,
had never spent any of the time with him thinking about anything other
than being a friend.

Any clever male dragon had a chance to catch a rising green, and
Xmrenth was an older, canny bronze who'd caught golds, so of course
he'd had a chance to win. And she hadn't had any strong preferences,
anyone she'd gone into the flight hoping for. She and K'lvin had spent
time together, and when they'd visited each other in their weyrs so
had their dragons, so it made sense for Savith to have gravitated
toward a familiar dragon. And K'lvin was always very nice and
respectful to her, so it wasn't like she woke up with someone she
truly disliked, or even was a little bothered by.

Yes, he was older than her. But he wasn't an ugly man. He had rather a
nice jawline, actually. And pretty eyes. And hands, she supposed,
especially as flashes of memories arose - from after they'd made it
into the cot and how they'd felt gripping her hips as he'd pushed her
onto the bed and she'd arched up to welcome him...

Her heart skipped a beat, and her breathing stuttered as she
remembered that, inadvertently alerting her partner to her new
wakefulness. Desire pooled low in her belly again.

Not only did the change in her breathing alert K'lvin to the fact that
she was awake but the soft muscles beneath his hand also tensed. He'd
done this more times than he could count, wake up beside of someone
and enjoy the rest of the remaining flight lust... So why hesitate
now?

K'lvin curled his hand more firmly over a smooth hip, dragging his
fingernails over velvet skin. He looked down, wanting to see what he
would find in the expression of her eyes.

Riveenata could have laid there a moment longer and enjoyed the
lassitude but the feeling of his fingers skimming along her skin, and
specifically the prickling of the nails, made her shudder and draw in
a breath. She lifted her head from its resting place to look up into
his eyes. Which, yes, *were* a lovely color, that she hadn't noticed
before, why hadn't she noticed that? Her own clear blue ones were wide
as they looked at him, taking him in with a new intensity and desire
she'd never regarded him with before, and her lips parted slightly.

"K'lvin," she murmured, and her voice was throatier than normal.

Her response was all he needed. Before he could start over thinking
everything, as he tended to do, K'lvin captured Riveenata's chin in the
hand that wasn't curled over her hip, and pulled her face closer. Unlike
the frenzied kissing from the flight, this kiss was hungry and thorough.

Despite what it could mean for the easy going friendship they had
developed, K'lvin wanted to know every inch of Riveenata in this moment.
Even if it turned out later that all of this stemmed from nothing but
pent up flight must, they could enjoy each other now.

The greenrider also also had a tendency to wait, to hold back, to keep
herself from doing something rash so she could think it through, and
think it through, and often let chances slide by because she looked at
them too long and too hard. It had been something that occasionally
paralyzed her on her own.

Since Savith had Impressed to her, she'd been less thoughtful, more
willing to follow her intuition and impulses. And right now, a wild
impulse was telling her to tilt her head back, part her lips, and
surrender herself to the feelings rushing through her in the moment. Her
body wanted K'lvin's body, she trusted him. Did it matter if this was
just the remainder of the flight need?

She was intoxicating, K'lvin thought, and was it his imagination or did
their bodies fit perfectly together? Maybe it was always like that when
dragons were involved and he'd just never noticed. Rolling from his
back, the bronzerider slid his hand from her hip to the small of her
back, arching her hips up to meet his as he trailed his lips from her
mouth to the curve of her neck.

~*Fade to black*~

The benefit of an after-flight second round was getting to remember most
of the experience. She lay there wiht her head pillowed against his
chest, trembling slightly with aftershock and struggling to steady out
her breath. K'lvin was _skilled_, and she was sated. She'd heard some
people could go for a third round, but her body was wrung out and she
might have marks from it that would last and she didn't care.

Finally, her instincts were subsiding and her rational mind was coming
back. And with it, a sudden flush of nerves. Oh, that had been good.
Very good. He'd touched her so carefully and sensitively at times,
seeming acutely aware of what she needed and providing it almost before
she could think to indicate? She wondered how he'd been so anticipatory,
so good. It was kind of him to provide a second round but...was that
just courtesy - an experienced dragonrider making sure to leave his
flight partner satisfied? Had there been something else in the
gentleness, or was she just imagining it? Was it a carryover from their
dragons? Or could he be thinking... but no, they were just friends,
weren't they?

As her breath finally evened out, she tried to figure out what she
wanted to say. She didn't want to just find her clothes and leave. So
she turned to look up at him again. Her face was soft and affectionate
as she did. What were the traditional words? She couldn't remember
anyway so she opted for ones from the heart. "Thank you for the flight,"
she murmured.

K'lvin had been trying to determine the best thing to say as well as the
euphoria faded. He didn't know if a moment had ever felt more right with
a woman than what he had just experienced with Riveenata. The way they'd
moved together, her passion and the way she gave her body, had been
absolutely intoxicating. These realizations were enough to firmly douse
any remaining desire in that moment. Was it that easy to forget Bahji?
He'd never thought he would connect with someone physically again the
way he had with his weyrmate.

"Thank you for the flight," the words echoed around in his brain as he
looked down at Riveenata. The flight. That's what it had been. Just a
flight. For her, for him, and now he needed to make things casual and
comfortable between them again. He didn't want to lose the easy-going
friendship that they had built over the last half-Turn.

"Well, you did say something about Xmrenth winning all of the green
flights in the Weyr?" he reminded her with a crooked grin.

At this sight of his smile, she wondered if she'd gone too far. She'd
tried for an amused smile in reply, but couldn't keep a wistfulness out
of her expression. "It's certainly to my benefit that you got cleared
again, hmm?"

The look on Riveenata's face made K'lvin's throat feel suddenly dry, and
made swallowing difficult. "And mine as well," he agreed, feeling that
chemistry crackle between them as lay they laid curled around each other.

How to follow that up, she wondered? She settled for sitting up and
beginning to look around for his clothes. "Well, I should go back to..."
and her voice trailed off. "I forget what I was doing," she admitted.
"Not going back to my weyr, certainly, I don't think Savith is moving
any time soon."

"Yeah, I don't imagine Xmrenth will be going anywhere." K'lvin stood
from the bed and snatched up Riveenata's shirt from the corner and
tossed it to her. "I think..." he paused, "I'm pretty sure I was working
in the dragon infirmary when Savith went up." That felt like ages ago now.

"At least you can get back there without needing a lift. I think I
was..." She remembered leather, said, "Oh. Straps. I can do that."

K'lvin tugged his pants on and slid his belt into place. He could return
to the infirmary to do some more work, but he doubted he would be able
to focus on much of anything if he did. "I'll probably swing by the
bathing pools," he admitted. The bronzerider buttoned his shirt and
glanced around the flight room once more. "Do you have everything?"

The greenrider was pulling on her tunic, but she definitely looked at
him out the corner of her eye and watched as he buckled his belt over
his pants. Her mind went back to what they'd just done, and... **Focus.**

Underclothes, on. pants on. Tunic. "Yes," she said, standing up on
wobbly legs. She took a few steps to the door, then stopped and reached
out to brush her hand against his. "I'll see you around the Weyr."

K'lvin brought her hand up to his lips, remembering how those hands had
been fisted in his hair not long ago, "It was a pleasure."

She must have murmured something in response. She knew shivered slightly
as his fingers brushed her skin. As they went their separate ways, she
couldn't stop thinking about it.
