A Quick Question

Writers: Roxanne, Rylie
Date Posted: 23rd March 2006

Characters: Ny'n, Br'nick
Description: Ny'n unintentionally interupts Br'nick's outing with his children
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 23 of Turn 3

Ny'n was pleased to see the new Wingsecond in the bowl, "Br'nick, do you have a moment to go over a couple of details on that last manuever you introduced?" As the Wingsecond turned, he realized that the man was not alone, but surrounded by several small bodies. "Oh, I'm sorry, sir, I didn't mean to interrupt."

"If you don't mind walking with us to the beach, I have time." Br'nick replied shifting Ictavion to his other hip. He was used to having his outing with the children interrupted. It was the life of a bronzerider and the children had grown very used to sharing their time with him. Tahyne and Braysin hovered to either side of him like they were afraid he was going to suddenly disappear if they strayed too far.

"It's a nice day for a walk," he answered shaking his head, still unsure if he should impose on the Wingsecond's family time, but falling in nonetheless. He was somewhat distracted from his original question, though, observing the Bronzerider with the children, never having been around young ones very much.

"That it is. Children, say hello to Ny'n. This is Tahyne and her brothers, Braysin and Ictavion." Br'nick said pointing to each child as he introduced them. The rest of his children were off doing their own thing or were too young for him to take out with all the other children in tow.

Tahyne shyly smiled at the strange dragonrider. She was used to seeing riders she didn't know, but this one was different somehow. "Hello, I'm five turns." she said before darting around to the other side of her father.

Braysin wasn't afraid of the dragonrider. He was always helping them wash their dragons and liked to talk to them any chance he got. He wanted to be a dragonrider when he was old enough. "Hi, Ny'n. What color is your dragon?" he asked grinning at the rider.

Ny'n nodded and smiled as each of the children were introduced, but his heart melted when he was addressed by the small Tahyne. If all females were thus, he never would have developed an aversion. He gave her what he hoped was a particularly warm smile before answering the more direct young Braysin. "Damarith is a brown dragon," Ny'n answered motioning to the heights above where his lifemate was sunning. "And how many turns are you lad? Not too many away from standing on the sands?"

"I'm eight turns!" Braysin replied proudly. He was waiting for the day he would be able to stand like his brother S'ric. He had been so excited to see his brother Impress, but he had been surprised when it was a _green_
dragon and not a bronze like their da.

"He can't wait to be a candidate." Br'nick said with a chuckle. "What was it that you needed clarification on?" he asked remembering the reason the brownrider had sought him out.

"Oh, yes," Ny'n shook his head to get himself back on track. "Well, since it is a rather agressive maneuver, requiring so much stamina, I was wondering if the wingleader will be rotating the blues and greens out individually as they tire or in a more systematic manner?"

"It could be both actually." Br'nick replied pausing to think how to explain it a little better than that. Once he had come up with a more detailed answer, he continued, "There will be a system to the rotation, but if something happens or a dragon just seems to be too tired, there will be someone to fill in. Does that make sense?"

Ny'n nodded, "Thought they might be rotating in and out in shifts.
Shouldn't affect our coverage, and yet it's nice to know, just in case timing is off slightly. Not that it will be with the rigorous drilling we've been doing," the brownrider added with a wry smile.

"I should hope not. The entire wing ought to know that pattern inside and out by now and be able to do it in their sleep." he replied with a chuckle.
They had been working on that pattern for a few sevendays before they tried it during Threadfall.

"Yes, I think we do, though I think we'll be well served not to test that,"
Ny'n shuddered at the very thought of a rider falling asleep during threadfall. "So, are you pleased to be back?" Ny'n asked, looking around at the young ones surrounding the wingsecond.

"I am and I know that the children are glad that I'm back, aren't you?" he asked with a sad smile as some unpleasant memories surfaced for a moment before he pushed those thoughts away. Perhaps he should talk to a mindhealer about what happened with Cyritahn.

Braysin nodded and grinned at them while Tahyne simply nodded not looking away from ther shoreline. She could see the beach from here and was tempted to run ahead of her father. She knew better than that so she simply hoped that the brownrider was done with her father so that they could go play.

"Well, thank you for your time, Br'nick," Ny'n said with a smile for the children, who were obviously anxious to continue on to the beach with their father. "Enjoy your day."

"I will. If you have any other questions, feel free to come find me."
Br'nick replied.
