Description: Brennault brings T'kala to his favorite spot at the runner station.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 20 of Turn 9
Marvel alighted on the ledge beside Dagreth. He hopped a little closer and then cheeped.
~~Come down for Brennault, please.~~ The thought was primarily an image of Dagreth and T'kala flying down and meeting Brennault below with an added sense of 'request' rather than 'order'.
T'kala wasn't normally the type of person to primp too much, but he found himeslf in front of his mirror, inspecting his hair, and checking his clothing to make sure that everything looked perfect. He wasn't sure if this was a "date date" or if he was just visiting a waystation for curiosity's sake. Either way, Brennault was nice looking and it couldn't hurt to see, could it?
}:The little one says that the runner is ready.:{ Dagreth informed T'kala.
"Let's not keep him waiting then," he said.
Dagreth and T'kala flew down to the weyrbowl where they could see Brennault waiting.
"Your ride is here, milord," T'kala said with a grin as he extended a hand to help Brennault mount.
Brennault, too, was dressed rather sharply and in a form hugging shirt and trousers. Not strictly the best for flying, but good for dancing and lovely for spending time together. Hardly 'Gather best', but not simply dressed for leisure, either. At T'kala's greeting, Brennault smiled from ear to ear. How lovely.
Marvel elected to fly up rather than to ride on Brennault's shoulder as he took T'kala's hand and climbed up, but the runner was still clearly practiced at mounting a dragon. Marvel refrained from landing. Instead, he showed Dagreth what the waystation looked like from the sky.
"You look great," Brennault said, grinning. "And you, too, Dagreth. Thank you for the ride." He patted the blue's hide and made a note to give him good scratchies when they landed.
T'kala quickly strapped Brennault in, making sure the other man was secure in the straps before saying into his ear, "Here we go." Giving the mental direction to Dagreth, the blue crouched back onto his hide legs and then sprang forward, rushing into the sky with a nimble leap before unfurling his wings to drive them upward. Reinforcing the waystation coordinates with Dagreth, coordinates they'd gotten from an older dragon and rider that day, T'kala spoke into Brennault's ear one more time, "We're going /between/ now."
Dagreth pulled them into the frozen void of /between/, thrusting them into the empty feeling of nothingness for the span of a heartbeat or so before casting them back into the warm skies above the waystation.
"Brr!" Brennault exclaimed as a chill ran through him. But his goosebumps were as much from the feeling of T'kala's lips near his ear as they were from the cold of between. At least he felt he was used to the lurch of take off by then.
If Marvel had known that T'kala had asked another dragon for the coordinates, he might have been offended. But as it was, he assumed his image of the waystation had been good enough and that he had done a good job.
Once they had landed and dismounted, Brennault offered a pat and a scratch to Dagreth.
"Thanks for the ride, buddy," he said, smiling. "Well, here we are! You know, a runner could get used to covering that kind of distance that quickly."
"A runner could," T'kala agreed, a slow grin beginning on his face, "especially if he had dragonrider friends." He leaped down from Dagreth's neckridge, leaving his coat and gear behind since the location was warm enough to not require them. "It's beautiful," he said as he looked around at the building.
"Thank you," said Brennault. "Dad really puts a lot into keeping it up. Do you want to go inside first, or...? There's a bluff out that way," he pointed, "with a gorgeous view." He had sent Tsogath there to wait on A'vel's suggestion the last time he had come a'dragonback. But since T'kala was not there to regale the common room with song as A'vel had been, Brennault thought he might enjoy a bit of a hike instead.
"There will probably be food ready by the time we get back if you want to see it. Especially if we do let Dad know we're here first."
"A hike sounds nice," T'kala admitted, eager to explore a bit of the area since he'd never been there before.
"Marvel," said Brennault to the lizard. "Tell Dad," he included an image of Cerault and where he could be found, "that I'm here, please, with T'kala and Dagreth. And that we're going for a hike and will be back soon." Those two came with images of walking out to the bluff and back.
~~... Two bits?~~ he asked, tilting his head.
Brennault pulled out a dried meat bit and gave it to Marvel. "And the other when you've told him."
Marvel cheeped and flew off into the station.
"Shall we?" asked Brennault, holding his hand out toward the trail toward the overlook.
"Let's," T'kala agreed, falling in step beside of the runner. "How's the training going with Marvel?" he asked, remembering the bronze's little incident in the Dining Cavern, when he'd gobbled food off of his plate.
"He's willing to do just about anything for a little bite of dried meat," said Brennault as they walked, the path leading off the main road. "But I'm a little worried about overfeeding him. He's very clever. Too clever for my own good. I mostly just have to think about what I'm saying in my head, as though I'm imagining it being done. Just words aren't usually enough." He chuckled.
"I bet he makes good company on the trail when you're traveling alone," T'kala said as they climbed up the bluff.
"Sometimes," said Brennault. "And other times, he goes back to my room at the weyr to sleep on my pillow until I get here." He chuckled. "I guess it can be boring if you're just riding on my shoulder, and it can be hard for him to keep the same pace while he's flying."
"You're good company," he added.
T'kala smiled, raking his eyes over Brennault. "You're not bad company yourself."
"I'll take that," said Brennault, returning the glance with a mischievous grin. Before too long, they arrived at the bluff. Beneath it, a canopy of trees stretched out into the distance, swaying in the breeze as clouds cast dappled shadows from overhead.
"Here we are," he said.
"Wow," T'kala breathed out slowly as he took in the view. "I didn't realize a view like this was available outside the Weyr."
"Oh, the weyr ledge is way better than this," Brennault chuckled, leaning his shoulder against T'kala's. It was a beautiful view, even if Brennault had seen this one a million times. "I used to pull chalk out of the side of the cliff when I was a kid and write my name on the station walls. The outside, of course. I never could figure out how my dad knew it was me." He winked.
They sat so closely that their thighs brushed, a contact that T'kala couldn't ignore. "You were a mischievous kid then?" T'kala arched a teasing eyebrow.
"Oh, I'm still mischievous," said Brennault, grinning back. "I just get up to a less destructive sort these days. How about you? What kind of mischief do you like to get up to?"
"I have to confess that I'm not very mischevious. I'm always the 'responsible one' in the group." The corners of his mouth twitched upwards.
"I like the sound of that," said Brennault. "I have a lot of respect for a man who can take responsibility," he said, his grin widening. "In whatever he does. Whenever he does it."
"Like this?" T'kala asked, before leaning in and kissing Brennault.
Brennault let his eyes close, and he let out a happy sigh and hum, kissing back softly.
"Exactly like this," he said softly when a break in the kiss came.
T'kala chuckled. "Won't your father be wondering what's taking us so long?"
Brennault laughed.
"My father will know exactly what's taking us so long," he said. "But we can go back for dinner if you're ready," he added, smiling brightly at T'kala. Faranth, but Brennault loved weyrfolk.
T'kala glanced at the sun and then back toward the hold before looking into Brennault's eyes. "Oh, I think we can stay here for a little longer."
