Ninaine

Ninaine

Ninaine sat on the infirmary cot, her hand light on her belly as she
thought about what she had agreed to. Carrying two babes, what would
it be like? How would it be different? N'call had looked so happy when
the decision had been made, but she had to know what she'd have to
prepare for.

"Hello, you're Ninaine, Luneth's rider, right?" Drumilla entered the
cubicle and pulled close the privacy-curtains. "I'm journeywoman
Drumilla."

"Hello, Drumilla, yes I am." Ninaine's nerves made her voice tremble
for just a moment.

"So, you're pregnant, congratulations," Drumilla said with a smile.
Shards, the greenrider looked so young, younger than she was.

Ninaine nodded, then looked down at her belly. "Two months. Um. When they confirmed it last week they said there were two."

"Twins? Are you excited about it or nervous?" Drumilla was now feeling bit nervous. She had never dealt with twin pregnancy before, only normal ones. It was supposed to be no different, at least in early stages.

"Nervous." She admitted. "I have a daughter, but I know that this is
going to be risky. I'd like to know what to expect. "

"You have to be extra careful, since it will put more stress in your
body, especially later. At this stage, there shouldn't be any
difference. So, have you had any problems? Exhaustion, morning
sickness, all-around nauseous?" Drumilla said and asked.

Extra careful? "Uhm, no, not really. I haven't been sick at all.
Just sort of tired, mostly. I've been sleeping a lot more. I was
horribly sick with my daughter, though. That's why I was surprised
when they told me how far along I was." Her brow furrowed. "Extra
careful about what exactly?"

"With all the usual precautions with pregnancy. Don't /between/, don't
eat half-cooked meat, avoid certain soft cheeses and certain herbs,"
Drumilla listed out. "Exhaustion is normal. My mother swore that she
got sick only when she was expecting my brothers. How's your weight?
Have you started to gain it?"

"Uhm, just a few pounds. Im going to get huge, aren't I? And I can
still...uhm... share a bed with my weyrmate, can't I?"

"Yes, two takes more space than one and yes, until the end of the
pregnancy or until healers tell you otherwise," Drumilla replied to
both questions. "If you're in a risk of premature birth, then man's
semen can start the labour."

"So I can't the entire pregnancy?" She looked pained. "That's not what
you're saying is it? Because uhm... last time I was a bit uh...needy
about that."

"That restraint won't affect you until very end of your pregnancy.
There are other ways to satisfied that need, you know, without
intercourse. That's the risky part, not all the rest involved in it."
Drumilla was weyrbred, so she had no problems talking about such
things.

"So...the last few months I'll need to uhm...use those other ways?"
Her face flamed at the conversation, but she knew she had to have it.
She and N'call were rather active, though should she have to abstain,
he would have other outlets. "Alright. When it was confirmed, the
Healers said only light duty because of the risk." She had been
looking forward to riding Luneth again even for short distances, but
supposed that the extra time for strengthening her wing wouldn't harm
the green. "What can I do? Will I still be able to teach classes?"

"Yes, class room teaching is fine. Showing them how to throw firestone
sack correctly is not. Use your common sense and listen to your body,
does it feel strenuous, does it make you feel discomfort or even
pain." Drumilla advised.

So, classroom lectures. She could handle that, so she nodded. "So is
there anything that I should come to the Healers immediately for?
Anything that I should tell N'call to be watchful for?"

"Cramps, abdominal pains or bleeding are always warning signs. Don't
hesitate to stop by just in case," Drumilla replied.

"I will. " She rubbed her belly in response. Though it was still
mostly flat, she thought she could feel a tell-tale little pooch
beginning. She hadn't really shown with Callaine until she was four
months. "Anything else I need to know?"

"I think that pretty much covers it," Drumilla replied. "You've done
this before, so you know how it generally goes. The only difference is
the number of babies."

Ninaine offered a quick smile. "When do you want to see me again?"

"A month from now, I'll schedule you with one of the specialists. Of
course, if there's need, don't wait that long," Drumilla replied.

"I won't."
