Alcohol & Slippery Tongues

Writers: Chelle, Shelly
Date Posted: 3rd April 2006

Characters: Syntara, E'rae
Description: Syntara tries to seduce the bluerider
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 11, day 2 of Turn 3

Syntara eyed a dark haired stranger from behind her mug of ale. She was
fairly certain that she hadn't met him before and a degree more certain
that they hadn't slept together - yet. He had a dark coloring and was a
bit on the lean side, but Syntara liked the look of him. She took a few
more swallows of her drink before getting up - a little shakily - to sit
across from the man.

The bluerider looked up, a bit of a frown crossing his face. Still, he
had been holdbred and courtesy dictated that he greet her. "Duty to you
and yours," he rattled off before working on his tubers. Leith was
busily nuzzling around the weyrledge at the moment and his dragon's
rambling mood was getting to him.

The greenrider was more than a little surprised at the formality of his
greeting. "Our respects to yours in return," she answered, leaning a
little closer to him. "My name is Syntara, may I inquire what your name
is?" She kept up the pretense of formality as best as her condition
allowed.

Waiting until his mouth was empty to speak, E'rae chewed and swallowed.
"E'rae," he supplied before taking a drink of the swill he'd poured
earlier. Not bad, he thought, but not one of the better batches.

"Well, E'rae.." Her words seemed to be coming out a little slower than
usual... "My name is Syntara." She leaned closer to him and whispered in
his ear. "I have some better quality wine in my weyr, if you'd like to
join me for a glass?"

He was silent and focused on his food as he tried to figure out how he
was going to react. Was she serious? Something told him she was. Better
not to have a greenrider mad, though, if one could help it. "I
umm...well I have some chores to do.."

The inebriated greenrider eyed him almost horrified. "You have _chores_
to do?!" That had to be the worst excuse she had ever heard. "You sure
you're not a greenrider?" she scoffed.

"Aye I am. And I do have chores. Some of us have to mend shirts,
repair straps, and clean up our weyrs. Plus, there's always the bedfurs
that need airing." He was glad he was a fast thinker, but as he said
those words, he realized they were true. A rider's life was never easy
when it came to responsibility.

"And I suppose you'd turn down every woman in the Weyr tonight, or is it
just me?" she demanded, raising her tone a little.

Wondering just why she was pushing this, he looked closely at her. Well,
he was a good looking fellow so he guessed he couldn't blame her. Still,
he didn't have time for women right now. "Probaby any woman in the Weyr
unless there happened to be a flight." One brow raised and his voice
remained irrevocably calm.

Syntara calmed down a little, no longer as offended. "Well, those must
be some _interesting_ chores you have there..."

"Not so much interesting, but necessary. And besides, I'm not like some
of these bucks. I don't just spread my seed anywhere." And he didn't
even know this woman. E'rae was a more traditional sort. Sex was for
breeding and flights. And he already had a daughter.

"Well then I guess that's it for us." Sytnara said. "We'll never be
happy together. Irreconcilable differences. I guess I'll have to break
things off with you." She smiled the slow sort of smile alcohol often
causes. "Good night, lovely."

"Goodnight." He took this moment to make his escape, wishing some
greenriders weren't so free about their use of alcohol. All it meant
were hardships for handsome men like him. After all, they just threw
themselves at him, and it was certainly embarrassing.
