Cyradis

**Have you spoken to Panitath yet?** wondered S'kand. It had been a
little while since they arrived, and he was surprised that Jagobroth
had yet to mention conversing with the senior gold yet.

}:She is with Loseth's eggs,:{ said the bronze as though this was all
the explanation he needed. And for as long as they had been together,
for S'kand, it was. Jagobroth would never bother with courting a gold
already heavy with another bronze's eggs. It would be ages before she
rose again, especially from Jagobroth's point of view.

**It's rude for us not to have introduced ourselves yet. I asked you
to request a meeting with the Weyrwoman.**

Jagobroth sighed a dramatic sigh.

}:I am sunning with Lunakath.:{

**Jag, I'm not going to ask again.**

}:Fine.:{ ... }:Golden Panitath. S'kand wishes to meet with your
honored rider, if it please you.:{

Panitath was silent for a moment but then responded. }:Mine would be
happy to see yours in her office:{

S'kand knocked on the door frame of the Weyrwoman's office the moment
he arrived, and once she bade it, he entered and saluted as he would
have N'vanik.

"Thank you for seeing me, ma'am," he said. "I am S'kand of bronze
Jagobroth, and I would like to thank you for welcoming me and my
family home. Please accept my humble apology for the, ah... lateness
of my thanks."

"Not at all," Cyradis smiled and waved him into the chair across from
where she sat on her couch. "Tell me a bit about yourself S'kand."

"Yes, ma'am," S'kand answered. He sat down as bidden, though he sat
stiff and upright on the edge of the chair.

"My mate and I grew up in the territory. My family at an old hold, one
not suitable for weathering Thread now that it's back, and abandoned
since. I Impressed Jagobroth at Thayan Peak. And we went South across
the mountains to rebuild at Rising Moons when the time came. Our
families moved here, and they've lived here since Dolphin Cove
reopened."

"We asked to come back when we realized our children had precious
little time left to know their great grandparents. And here we are,
home again, ma'am. We thank you for welcoming us back."

"Of course," she nodded. "Panitath always welcomes another strong
bronze," she said warmly. "I'm glad you've been able to reconnect with
your family here. How many children do you have?"

"Five with my weyrmate. A few more besides born from flights,"
answered S'kand. He had already been back to visit once so far with
his children still at Rising Moons. Thinking of his children was a
good way to get a smile from him.

She smiled in response. "I have one from a flight as well and four
others with my weyrmates. My second oldest just Impressed bronze at
Panitath's last hatching."

"Congratulations to him!" said S'kand cheerfully. It took him half a
moment to realize he would not be teaching the boy's classes. The
clutch itself would have been some time ago, and moreover, he was
no longer teaching. There was no cause for disappointment – no new
cause, anyhow. But it was still there. S'kand wondered how long until
it would go away.

"And to you and Panitath, of course. A new clutch is on its way soon, too, yes?"

"Very soon now," she smiled.

"Our congratulations to you both," said S'kand. He wondered whether
either of his Candidate aged children might be Impressing this time.

"Any more of yours Standing when they hatch?"

"My daughter Naradis," she smiled. "My eldest son is a Journeyman
Vintner. He preferred to craft like my father and brothers."

S'kand once again did his best to hide the worry in his eyes at the
mention of another daughter Standing. Perhaps there would be another
gold for her. Though it seemed wishful thinking with one having
hatched so recently. If it were up to S'kand, every girl who wanted a
dragon would have a gold all her own. Of course, it was a fantasy that
could never be workable. But it was there all the same.

"I'm surprised none of mine have been all that excited to follow in my
wife's footsteps, speaking of. Not a crafter, but she's got a fair
hope of being a headwoman somewhere, someday or near enough to it.
Maybe the little one will. We'll see."

"That is always a special time," she smiled. "I don't know if my
youngest two ill decide to stand. Kielya is almost ten turns now but
little Kendran is only two. He was actually born at a hatching," she
laughed.

"A shame you had to miss it, but I suspect that might be the one thing
worth missing a Hatching for," said S'kand, smiling in answer to the
Weyrwoman's laugh. "Not much longer until Kielya will be old enough to
decide, hm? The days are long, but the Turns are short, that's what
they say"

"Yes, well, I didn't exactly miss it." She was still a bit embarrassed
by the whole thing. "He was born in the stands. Panitath seems to
think of him as another egg."

"That must have been some Hatching!" said S'kand, impressed. "Sounds
like a once in a lifetime sort of thing. Is Panitath close with your
kids?" he wondered. Jagobroth seemed to be fairly indifferent to his.
He enjoyed their company but did not particularly miss them when they
were not around.

Although, he did like S'tall's brown.

"They all used her as a climing toy as children and she loved it. She's always had
a special liking for children. Yes, that hatching was a bit more than I wished for,"
she chuckled. "Of course they're all special but that one was memorable and I
got a great prize at the end."
