The end of the month and the beginning of more pleasant evening
weather was enough to spur the Weyr's resident Harpers into a fine,
exuberant mood. The tensions had been high lately in the Weyr with so
many stressful events occurring, and the older Harpers knew that a
break was likely necessary for all residents. The news went out
around lunchtime that they were having an impromptu gather at the
lake, a bonfire had been set and food and drinks would be provided.

As the sun began to set over the weyrbowl, the music began. One of the
Harpers waved Dessa over, encouraging the young goldrider to join them
in their revelry.

As candidates, riders, and lower caverns staff began to congregate,
laughter erupted as a bottle of wine was uncorked, the resulting fizz
spilling over onto a unfortunate candidate's carefully prepared
hairstyle. Another harper sighted a pretty redheaded green rider and
called out, "Hey! Wingthird! Catch!" He tossed a skin of wine. "Can I
get a dance later?"

Aviday sidled up to Irradis and nudged him, looking hopeful. "Would
you like to dance or something?"

Tisafelle brushed past Doramia and Geinah without an apology, her eyes
searching out someone in particular before melting into the crowd.

The Harpers set up a fast-paced reel, nudging A'vel out front to show
his own talent and waving the crowd to begin dancing.

Someone whooped behind the makeshift stage, proudly diving naked and
unashamed off of their dragon and into the water. There was laughter,
general mirth, and a few others decided to join in while others tipped
back drinks and joined the dance.

The bonfire was lit and flames shot up, crackling almost in time with
the music that played. Harpers brought in meatrolls and fruit, piling
them up on blankets and crates that became tables. More and more
people arrived, bringing their own blankets, their own food to add to
the piles, and their own drinks. It looked to be a thoroughly
enjoyable affair that was growing, one that would both relax and
invigorate all involved.
