"So, Sinayric, what are you planning to do if you don't Impress? Are you a
Crafter or anything?" Khalida asked, scooting a little down the dining table
to confront another Candidate.
"I'm a herder in my spare time." he replied with a grin. He had always loved
the animals and if he didn't Impress he might become a beastcrafter.
"Really?" She asked and nodded. "That would be fun, I guess. Though I admit,
I'm far more partial to canines rather than runners and the like. I was
beginning to think about starting dragonhealer training, while I'm waiting
to Impress and all."
"That's a good craft to know. My da is a dragonhealer and always wants to
teach me what he knows. He says it will help me one day, but I don't have
as much hope as he does that I will Impress."
"I don't see why not. Everyone has equal chance, I would think. But then, I
always thought that being a dragonrider's child gave you a foot in the door
with Impressing," she grinned. "Do you think he would ever be up to
teaching anyone else?"
"I've seen a lot of weyrbred candidates who stand for turns and never
Impress, but there's always the chance that a dragon could pick me. I don't see why he wouldn't. He loves to talk to anyone who will listen to him
about dragonhealing. I can introduce you to him, if you'd like me to."
Khalida shrugged."I guess it's a gamble for everyone."
At his offer to introduce her, she smiled. "I'd like that very much. The
sooner I feel more useful around here, the better. When, do you think, I
could meet him?"
"He asked me to help wash Cendarnth this afternoon after they got done with
drills. You could meet us by the weyrlake." he suggested. He enjoyed washing
the bronze and he supposed that it was good practice in case he actually
Impressed.
"Wonderful," she grinned. "You're my hero for the day, Sinayric. You may
have solved my no-craft problem. What time should I meet you?"
"In three candlemarks, perhaps?"
"I'll see you then."
