Description: The day after Saidrene's fight with J'ackt and Alina, Ashareth decides to rise.
Location: Barrier Lake Weyr
Date: month 2, day 28 of Turn 10
Notes: Mentioned: J'ackt, Alina
Saidrene's head felt woolly and thick from crying herself to sleep the
night before. She could still see the look of shock on Alina's face and the hot mask of rage on J'ackt's, when the pair had learned that she was pregnant. Their parting words to her still echoed in her ears.... And then there had been K'ran... Thoughts of the gentle, sweet-tempered bronzerider made her groan. He had come over to try and console her and all she had done was throw it in his face, about how responsible he was, and then asked him to leave. What if he decided she was too imature, too much drama, after last night? He had told her already that he had always imagined himself with a more traditional, holdbred woman, and she was anything but that...
**This is rock bottom. It can't get any worse.** The greenrider told
herself as a form of consolation as she stumbled out of bed and
splashed some cold water onto her face, which was still puffy from
tears.
She had only just managed to tug one of her looser tunics on over her
beginning-to-show-baby-bump when she felt a sudden rush of lust wash
over her. "Ashareth!" she gasped, in surprise and exasperation.
}:Come and get me!:{ the green called, preening on her weyrledge, her belly
still sated from her kills the night before.
Saidrene didn't remember making the decision to move, but she found
her feet taking her toward the couple of rooms that had been put
together for flights.
Kopth was crouched on his ledge, his eyes whirling as he watched
Ashareth. He flexed his talons against stone, ready to leap into the
air as soon as she made her move.
**Who is rising?** J'nus asked when he noticed his dragon's interest.
}:Ashareth.:{
That was Saidrene's dragon. J'nus pulled on a tunic and headed out the
door toward the flight cots. He didn't know Saidrene at all, aside
from how she flew. They'd been wingmates briefly at Dolphin Cove Weyr,
before she'd transferred into Rapids Wing when the refugees from River
Bluff had arrived.
}:Ashareth rises and we will claim her!:{ Rogueth shouted in K'ran's mind.
**Are you sure you're ready?** He hadn't gone after a dragon since his
injury, he was just getting back to a flight rhythm.
}:It is Ashareth,:{ Rogueth said to his rider, exasperatedly. }:Of
course I will chase her.:{
**I want you to win her. Just be careful,** he thought, even as he
trotted to the flight cots. **I need her, but I need you not to be
hurt.**
Ashareth, satisfied with the adoring males she had collected, flung
herself from her weyrlege. On the ground, Saidrene's mood was suddenly
lifted as she joined with Ashareth, forgetting about her troubles for
the moment as she exalted in the thrill of flying, of seeing the land
pass beneath her in a blur through her dragon's eyes.
Haloth wasn't far behind the others in proclaiming he was going to
chase. **Who** N'call asked as he trotted toward the cots.
}:Ashareth:{ Haloth sent along with his opinion of her extreme beauty.
Then he threw himself into the air with all her other suitors.
Kopth leaped into the sky after Ashareth, flying just to the left and
a bit higher than Haloth. The green dragon's wings glittered
alluringly in the sunlight as he followed her into the air. On the
ground, J'nus closed his eyes and relaxed into his dragon's mind,
letting the lust and want roll over him in a wave.
Rogueth bugled as he flew after her. He wanted her. He could not
remember ever wanting any other dragon like this. Pure desire burned
through his blood at the sight of this green. If there was pain in his
wings he didn't know, distracted by how strongly he wanted the gem
before him. He _needed_ Ashareth. She was his green. His rider wanted
her rider. Rarely were they in such perfect accord.
He snarled at Kopth and Haloth. The other bronzes were his rivals. In
his way. They were unworthy of her. }:Choose me, Ashareth,:{ he said
as he twisted to try to snake past Haloth and get closer.
Silently Kopth swerved into Haloth's way, then winged after Ashareth
as Rogueth drew slightly ahead. The sun glittered on his wings and
when he knew the green was looking, he took a moment to let the light
play across his hide. He let his flying speak for him as he wooed the
green in the air, taking the time to put an extra flourish on his
wingbeats and even daring a fancy mid-air loop. Even with the showing
off, he easily flew near her flirtatious tail.
Ashareth looked behind her at the rapidly approaching Rogueth. There
was a strong connection between her rider and his, a link that made
Ashareth consider the small bronze twice before tucking her wings and
barrel-rolling through the skies. Flinging her wings open again, the
green turned directions with a quick snap of her tail, amusement
forming inside her as some of the clumsier dragons missed the turn
completely.
Rogueth saw Ashareth's quick snap turn, and he maneuvered to make a
matching one to keep in her path. It was a move that the small bronze
could have easily pulled off before his wounds at the claws of
Aglayath. But he had not yet regained his full agility and health and
so his turn was larger than needed, his balance wobble, and he fell
farther behind his rival bronzes. A snarl of frustration escaped from
his rider's mouth on the ground.
But Kopth could. He felt the strain in his shoulders as he snapped
after the green, and then she was close enough to catch her and twine
his tail with hers. On the ground, his rider wrapped himself around
Saidrene, kissing her soundly as he picked her up and carried her
blindly to the nearest flight cot, his dragon's triumph singing wildly
through his veins.
Haloth wheeled in the air and made straight for his weyr to sulk.
N'call turned into the arms of a waiting moth.
Rogueth whirled to plunge into cold water, more devastated by the loss of this green than by any other he could remember. On the ground, K'ran turned away from moths and pushed his way towards a bathing pool to cool himself off as well.
