Having spent rather too much time in the infirmary the past turn,
D'hol wasn't exactly thrilled to be waiting in another one, even one
so nicely appointed. He tapped his foot as he waited impatiently;
there were hides to go over, technicians to meet with and new
wingmembers arriving that would have to be spoken to. Candidates were
coming to the Weyrhold as well, and the new group of weyrlings were
finally settled. He had much to do and little time to do it.
"Weyrleader," Zehva said, looking up from the chart in her hand. She
had been a little annoyed when she looked at her list for the day and
had seen an appointment with the Weyrleader. It was nothing personal,
but there was a certain amount of pressure that came with treating a
patient such as the _Weyrleader_. "If you'll come with me," she
indicated with her hand.
"Of course." He straightened from his lean and followed. "Healer
Zehva, isn't it?" He'd tried to learn the new faces, but there were so
many, he often didn't recognize all of them. "I'll try not to take up
too much of your time. I try not to disturb Healer's routines unless I
have to."
"The Weyrleader's health is never a disturbance to the routine." Zehva
said as she directed him into a clean examination room and closed the
door. "Have a seat," she said, gesturing to the exam table while
simultaneously pulling her stethoscope from around her neck.
"Sounds just like Urlene," D'hol muttered softly as he sat. "I am
healthy, I assure you. I was given a physical right after I arrived
here." He sighed and held still, knowing what she would need to do and
eyed the tool. It would be almost as cold as /between/ he was certain,
so he held still and prepared.
Zehva rubbed the end of the stethoscope against her shirt before
placing it against the bronzerider's chest. She listened to his heart
for a moment before moving the instrument around to his back. "Deep
breaths," she instructed while she listened to him breathe.
"Heart and lungs sound good," she said, moving the stethoscope back
around her neck. "Let's check your surgery sight and healing." Zehva
said, exploring the still new scar with careful probing fingers. "Any
tenderness?"
"Of course they are. I'm in good health." D'hol confirmed again,
then leaned back to allow her better access to check his scarring.
"No. It's healed rather well. A few aches after going /between/ but I
was told to expect that. "
"I don't feel any scarred tissue, either. Very good." Zehva turned and
jotted down some notes on the Weyrleader's chart. "How much rest would
you say you get, Weyrleader?" The healer leaned against the counter
behind her and crossed her arms over her chest.
D'hol eyed the Healer. **Jeyme, Timassa, or Kapera...* He mentally
grumbled. **Jeyme.** He sighed and sat straight. "As much as I can.
But I do stay busy pretty much all day. Can't take as many breaks as
I'd like and honestly can't take restdays like other riders can."
**Women. **
"I understand. You have many responsibilities at this time, but the
more you run yourself down, the more likely injury or ill will be. If
you're going to he taking on such a strenuous schedule you'll need to
make a few changes to your diet, and at least make sure you have the
hours at night to sleep properly..." The corner of her mouth tipped a
little. "Even if that means making one of your seconds in charge while
you do."
His eye twitched in annoyance. Why couldn't he see a biddable,
reasonable Healer once in a while? Would that be too much to ask?
"Diet I can do. And I'll speak to K'ran when I need to. What sort of
diet are you recommending?"
"Fish, fruits, and brown rivergrains will help keep your energy up."
Zehva advised.
"I already eat those." He pointed out with a hint of triumph. Since
the last scare in the infirmary, he'd kept his diet very healthy.
True, he still had his fair share of roasts and other meats, but he
limited them as much as he could. And he did like his bubblies, but
he mostly worked those off.
"Excellent, just keep doing that." She held up her hands. "I'm not
trying to mother you, just providing suggestions to keep our leader
healthy."
He nodded. "I understand that. Since my surgery, some people have
been a bit..."he chose his next words lightly, "overly concerned about
my health. I assure you, I'm staying as healthy as I can. And I'll
try to get more rest as time allows. "
Zehva nodded. "Good. Well," she pushed away from the counter, "I won't
need to see you any further for the scar unless something begins
bothering you."
He hopped up off the cot and slipped his tunic back on. "You will tell
me of course, if you need anything here." He paused, "or K'ran. One
of us will be able to handle anything appropriately. "
"Yes, sir, I will keep you both apprised of any needs that arise." The
journeywoman assured him.
He nodded briefly. "Good. Have a good rest of the day. Perhaps an over
all diet of healthy food would be beneficial for all the riders.
Perhaps I'll speak to Jayzine about it as well."
Zehva wasn't sure how that would go over with the riders, but that's
what Weyrleaders were for.
