Rasme

Rasme

"Pardon, there, ma'am." S'kand lifted a hand in greeting to the dragonhealer, the first with rank he saw as he entered the infirmary.

}:I am not hurt,:{ Jagobroth insisted.

**Your wing is twice strained, and I'll not hear another word. You'll get yourself grounded for a month if you let this become a proper sprain or worse.**

}:I may be hurt... a little.:{

"My Jagobroth might need a bit of your help if you could spare a moment."

Rasme turned at the sound of the word ma'am, and speared the bronzerider with one appraising blue eye. **Bronzerider knots.** She did not recognize the bronzerider, but she was still becoming acquainted with everyone at Dolphin Cove. He was handsome enough, she decided.

"Show me to your Jagobroth, then, and I'll have a look," she said.

"Thank you." S'kand nodded to her. "Shall I have him come inside, or would you prefer to have a look outside first? He's strained his left wing at the elbow joint, and I'm worried it's getting worse and not better on its own."

"I'll come out and assess the wing first before we have him moving any more." Rasme said, rolling up her sleeves and following S'kand outside to his dragon. "Well met, Jagobroth," she greeted the bronze. She walked to the dragon's left Wing, eye narrowed critically as she looked at it from a dragonhealer's perspective. "Jagobroth, if you would please, extend your left wing as far as you can - you can stop extending if it causes you pain."

Jagobroth nodded to the dragonhealer as she approached and greeted him. He stretched out his wing and trembled a bit before it was even half extended, even as he continued.

"Aye, that counts as pain, you wherry, back off it. Come back to where it was," S'kand insisted.

}:That is merely mild discomfort.:{

"Mild discomfort, my ear – put it back."

Jagobroth relented and returned his wing to the previous position. His shoulder joint was fully extended, but his elbow joint just shy of 90 degrees.

Rasme noted the positioning of the wing. "I have two questions: how old is Jagobroth and when did there begin to be trouble extending the wing?"

"He's..." S'kand did a bit of math in his head for a moment. "Twenty-eight. And it's been since he chased a pretty little green the other day, though I think he was underselling how much he was strained after the last Fall. He's... a bit proud, you may have noticed."

"Of course he's proud, he's a bronze," Rasme said with a little smirk. As a goldrider, she had been around plenty of bronzes in her lifetime. Their pride and ambition is what pushed bronzeriders and their lifemates to be great leaders for the Weyr. "It's probably just a bad sprain. The thing is - only time and rest can really tell us if that is the case. He'll need to be grounded from flight for a fortnight. No flight at all, not even to the feeding pens or to carry you to your weyr. He can stay in one of the ground wallows down here if he wants. In a fortnight we'll try the wing extension again and if he still can't get past ninety degrees, then we'll have to consider some prognosis."

Jagobroth grumbled audibly and complained to S'kand.

}:You said we spoke to her now to avoid a sprain, and she says sprained it is already! You make for a lousy dragonhealer.:{

**I got you here, didn't I?**

}:You said she wouldn't ground me if I came now!:{

**Well, I make for a lousy dragonhealer, after all.**

Jagobroth grumbled all the louder.

"No more of that. It's disrespectful, and I won't have it," S'kand insisted. And Jagobroth lowered his head in apology to Rasme. "Better," S'kand allowed.

"In a fortnight, then!" he said to Rasme. "I thank you for your insight. I'll ask for you again, then? Ah. Forgive me. I've yet to introduce myself, haven't I. I'm S'kand." Of course, S'kand knew who Rasme was as soon as Jagobroth had told him her dragon's name.

"Rasme," the goldrider said with the hint of a flirtatious smile now that business was over with. "It is nice to meet you S'kand, I don't think I've had the pleasure yet. I'm still getting to know everyone."

"It's my pleasure!" S'kand answered jovially. "If you have a moment after work, would you care to have a klah together and get to know one another?"

"A cup of klah sounds wonderful. I'll have Piketh let Jagobroth know when I'm finished here."

}:Might I enjoy your company in the mean time?:{ Jagobroth asked Piketh.

"I'll see you then," S'kand smiled. "Thank you again for your help with Jagobroth."
