N'vanik

N'vanik

Taking a deep breath, N'vanik knocked on the new Wingleader's door.
Tomorrow would be his first day back in the wing, and J'nus had sent
word that he wanted to talk to him. Hopefully, it was just to discuss
his rejoining the wing, and not to tell him that his grounding had
been extended. When he had permission to enter, N'vanik walked into
the office. "You wanted to see me?"

"Yes, N'vanik. I did." J'nus smiled at the other bronzerider and
gestured toward a chair. "Please take a seat."

N'vanik sat across from the Wingleader, trying not to think of what
he and Sarian had done on that desk. "So, I assume you want to talk
about tomorrow?"

The bronzerider smiled. "Yes. As of tomorrow you're officially back
in the air."

"Good," N'vanik said, relieved.

"Do you feel up to participating in aerial drills?" The Wingleader
hadn't seen N'vanik watching drills since he'd earned his knots, nor
did the bronzerider seem like the type to stay in touch with what the
Wing was doing.

The wingrider nodded. "Absolutely." He _needed_ to get back in the
air.

J'nus raised an eyebrow. "You're sure? It wouldn't hurt to sit a few
drills on the ground. We've got some new and returning riders, as
well as a few missing ones, since you were grounded."

The mention of missing riders brought an image of A'trick in the
infirmary. "I'm sure. Fighting Thread is the most important thing in
my life, aside from Loseth," N'vanik said.

"All right then. I'll expect you at drills tomorrow morning. Don't be
late." J'nus had his doubts, but he was willing to give N'vanik the
benefit of the doubt - it was a drill, and not a Threadfall day. If
the bronzerider couldn't keep up, well, they'd go from there. He made
a note in N'vanik's file. "So what have you been doing to keep
yourself busy this past month?"

**Drinking.** "Spent a lot of time thinking," he said, shrugging a
shoulder.

"Hopefully you've come to a few sensible conclusions, then."

N'vanik fought to control himself. Getting mad at J'nus was only
going to get his grounding extended. "Hopefully," he said flatly.

J'nus raised an eyebrow at the bronzerider's tone, but let it slide.
Some things weren't worth the bother of mentioning. "All right. I'll
see you in the air tomorrow. Be prepared, and don't be late."

"I won't," N'vanik said, with considerably more enthusiasm.
