Notes: Takes place immediately following "The Other Man"
"How many does that make now, Gyllie? Seven, eight men, I've found in my bed? That's not counting, of course, the ones that I just haven't caught." Dysmin swilled the dark drink around in his glass as he looked up from his chair at his wife.
Gyllie's mouth was pressed into a firm line as she left the bed and began putting her clothes on.
"Perhaps if I had a clearer timeline of when you would be home, this wouldn't happen," she said between clenched teeth.
Dysmin's dark eyebrows shot up. "Oh, so it's my fault because I don't tell you exactly when I'll be home so you can close your legs and let go of another man's pecker?"
"Watch your mouth," she bit out.
The harper leaped to his feet, his dark blue eyes blazing like the heart of a fire. "You dare lecture me about propriety?" He struck her across the face with his open hand. "You open your legs for anything that walks but I should refrain from talking about it?"
Dysmin turned and let out a bitter laugh. "Feck, Gyllie, you must have a set of brass balls hidden between your legs. To make your infidelity _my_ fault." He stared at her incredulously.
Gyllie touched her stinging face lightly, her eyes simmering with hatred. "I never _asked_ for this life, for this marriage!"
Throwing the glass into the hearth, where it shattered loudly, Dysmin turned on Gyllie with a finger pointed in her face. "Don't you dare bring up that 'promise' you made your sister. I am sick to death of hearing how you got the short end of the stick by marrying me." He slapped her across the face again, this time hard enough to split her lower lip.
"Have I not clothed you? Finely, I might add." He held his hands up to gesture around them. "Have I not bought you things? Jewelry? Baubles? Did I not bring you to the _Weyr_ to live, of all places, because you said that if we got a fresh start here you would 'do better'?"
Dysmin's voice was at the level of a roar. "Well, slut? Is _THIS_ better? Hm?!"
Gyllie winced at each yelled word, as if they were daggers. "I'm going to take a bath," she said quietly, going to her wardrobe to retrieve fresh clothes.
Her husband grabbed a handful of her fiery red hair and pulled her backwards against him so hard she had to arch her neck to accommodate him. "If I find you in bed with another man again, Gyllie, so help me, I'll kill you both."
He gave her a shove toward the door, causing her to stumble and collide with the door frame. She winced as the force knocked the breath from her chest.
"It won't happen again," she said over her shoulder. It was the same thing she always said when he caught her.
Dysmin gave a snort of disgust, shoving his fingers through his hair as he turned his back on Gyllie. Quietly she slipped from their weyr, clutching her clean clothes to her chest as she slipped away to the bathing pools.
