"Thank you, Esbry, I think that's all we'll need." Saibra told the kitchen drudge, smiling politely at the young woman. The conference room table bore simple finger food snacks and a pitcher of fresh water.

}:They're on their way.:{ Chioneth reported dutifully from her place
up on the top cliff of Dragonsfall Weyr.

"Excellent," Saibra murmured in return. The three goldriders were
meeting for a bit of business and a little bit of the wine that Ashela
had picked up at the Vintner Hall.

Lanniya stepped into the meeting room, finishing the plait in her hair
with nimble fingers before tying it off. "Chinoeth said you asked for
me?"

“Monthly goldrider meeting?” Saibra said with a lift of her eyebrows.
“You have time?”

Ashela followed closely after her, neatly groomed and dressed as always,
bearing two bottles. She nodded to both of the other women with decorous
courtesy. "Weyrwoman, Wingthird."

Lanniya took her seat, hiding her immediate irritation at Ashela's
presence, choosing instead to smile at Saibra. "Sorry, I've been
distracted." She inclined her head to the other goldrider in greeting.

"Oh? Distracted by anything interesting?" Ashela asked with apparent
polite curiosity. She set the bottles down on the table. "The Vintner
Hall's best."

Saibra's eyes lit at the bottles of wine. "Excellent," she retrieved
glasses for the three of them and set them on the table. "I don't know
about Lanniya," she winked at her wingthird, "but I bet you had a good
distraction at Amber Hills," she said to Ashela.

"It was a most valuable excursion," Ashela replied guilelessly as she
uncorked one of the bottles. "I'm pleased to say I was warmly welcomed
in both Hold and Hall, and we had a useful discussion about recent events."

"That is excellent, Ashela." Saibra said with praise for her
Weyrwoman's Second. Her attention went next to Lanniya. "How are the
Weyrlings doing Lanniya? Since the Hatching?" With her Wingthird's
abilities to Hear All Dragons, keeping tabs on the young dragons and
riders had become much easier.

"They seem to be alright." Lanniya rubbed one of her eyes. "There's a
mix of attitudes, like usual. Some confusion about Impression, some
just getting adjusted. I've not heard anything to be really concerned
about. I'll let you know if I hear anything that concerns me. Should I
be listening closer?"

Saibra shook her head. "Just keep your ears open. I'm worried about
prejudices excluding Kadira from developing a relationship with her
peers. As we know, strong relationships with your clutchmates can be
important to success during Weyrlinghood."

"Perhaps you should get to know her a little, Lanniya," Ashela
suggested. "So that she has someone to talk to outside of the class, and
share any concerns she has. You are the closest of us to her in age,
after all." It would be rather amusing if the other goldrider was stuck
playing nursemaid to a weyrling.

"I can't show her favoritism," Lanniya pointed out. "But I will keep
an eye out on her and her blue."

"Thank you, Lanniya. As much trouble as a woman riding a blue dragon
might stir up, I don't want to lose them. Kadira will need a kind of
support that we've not had to provide for a Weyrling before." Saibra mused.

"I'm sure with time, we'll grow used to them, and she'll seem no more
unusual than any other weyrling." Ashela certainly hoped so. She was
already tired of all the attention the blue pair were getting. "Having
grown up at a Hold, I know that one of the strengths of the Weyr is its

ability to accept change."

"Speaking of holdbred, having a female bluerider may especially concern some of the younger greenriders who had more conservative upbringings." Saibra chewed on her bottom lip, almost thinking aloud rather than talking to either of the other two women. "I'll discuss that with the Weyrleader."

"Who knows - some of them may be intrigued by the idea," Ashela said, with more mischief in her smile than she generally showed the other goldriders. The possibilities for gossip certainly intrigued her! "We'll see, I suppose. It should be some time yet before her blue can catch a green." She sipped her wine. "I suppose we'd better get to our regular Weyr business, though?"

Saibra agreed with a nod of her head. "Thank you for coming by, ladies." As she watched the two other goldriders leave, Saibra couldn't help but think about what an odd trio the three of them made. They were all certainly very different from one another, but so far, knock on wood, they'd managed to navigate the skies civilly.

Still, she didn't like the change in Lanniya's demeanors when Ashela was around, and there was the matter of Ashela visiting Amber Hills. Zathris was certainly good-looking enough that Saibra could understand wanting to visit but the last thing Dragonsfall needed was any sort of complications with Amber Hills....

**I'll just have to keep my eye on them both,** Saibra decided.
